Possibly the Most Beautiful Lake in Two States: Lake Watauga

I recently spent a day on Lake Watauga, which is situated on the border of North Carolina and Tennessee. It's setting in the Appalachain Mountains and it's clear, cool water make it a popular destination in the summer.

Come along and travel the world with Richard Green. Retiring in the spring of 2023, I am embarking on full-time world travel. I'm going solo, but the idea here is not to focus on me so much. It's about the places and the people along the way.

The only part of Watauga Lake in NC is the river which starts out in Linville Gap. I have fished, camped and swam in it for 60 years and it is ONE of the most beautiful lakes around. South Holston is almost as beautiful if not as beautiful as Watauga. Check it out also.

So beautiful. I grew up outside of Elizabethton. We went there many times. Camped there.We would wait for our father would get home from work at Bemburg in the summer an go straight to the lake
We moved north when my dad took a job in 1962.Thanks Robert Lee Bullock

Lake Michigan in the summer has the most beautiful beaches and beach towns. The Michigan side is better. Plus it’s fresh water so no scary creatures! I’ve been to California and I actually think the beaches of Lake Michigan are the best in the U.S.! I’ve traveled half the country and 3 countries and I think Michigan is the most beautiful state! From Mackinac Island, Petoskey, Charlevoix, Traverse City, Sleeping Bear sand dunes and all down the coast of Lake Michigan. All of the Great Lakes are beautiful 🤩
