Yeah, it's wild to me when they do this in store especially. I bought a $5 game on Black Friday (Tales of Arise, funnily enough), so I wasn't too upset about it happening for that one specifically, but the employee said "This is the last one we have, so I have to give it to you in a sealed bag so it will be brand new for you." Huh? That's not brand new, brother. Just seems wild to me. They should just create repro cases for the shelves or something. They do that at a local store for me - GameStop should be able to do the same. But sending a game in a case that says "Pre-Owned Game" on the back and billing it as New is WILD.
The even weirder thing is for games where they bought too many new, even if you try and buy a game pre-owned, they'll give you a new copy. A few weeks back, I tried picking up a used copy of Hades because I had a loose one and just wanted the box really, and they gave me a brand new copy and told me that it was a directive from corporate to try and clear some inventory. They really need to figure their stuff out over there.
Wow that’s nuts! Yea I agree. They have some stuff to work on for sure. I ordered a box of pokemon cards from them a little after this video was recorded and they took my money right away. However my order never shipped. I waited for like 2 weeks and it never shipped so I had to reach out to see what the issue was and they couldn’t even tell me. They just ended up refunding me after like 3 more days of waiting.
Not to defend this practice, but here in Australia, 'new' games hardly ever come in sealed, even if bought by the developers or publishers themselves. I bought TOTK from the Nintendo Store and FF7 Rebirth from Amazon and despite receiving them day 1, they came unsealed.
I don't know if it is just a PAL thing, but publishers I have come to realise do not always seal their games such as Nintendo and Sqaure Enix.
So, what you received may have very well been the rare instance in the NA region where you just got an unsealed 'new' game.

I feel your pain, GameStop is doing me dirty too. Thankfully the games are super cheap, I would have a serious issue with a new release getting shipped without a case
Yeah I got last last gen game 6.25$ had to use my 1$ 😢credit Hugh 25¢ tax 🤬💯 at least worth 230$ 😊 720 to 4K 😊 a 5$ game is 5$ games 😊 save 5$ 😊 I got black shop their 9 time's they won't quit 🤬💯

Yea that’s just Xbox. They’re all like that. Atleast the Xbox one games were. Don’t know if series x is different
I have not shopped at game stop or Best Buy since the Wii U and 3ds were new systems my local one 30 mins from me used to be nice and hold games for me but that stopped a year later I won’t miss either place.

I dont miss them. I even once had best buy tell me I didn't look like I had money when I was buying a monitor for a computer customer the employee acually said he would not show me were they are for that reason. I left and haven't been back. @@TheMightyBildo
Unreal! That’s insane. With the news that they’re going to stop selling physical media, I probably won’t be back there myself.
They did actually tell me that when i was 16 or 17 that told me never to come back and this was in 2005 or 03 i can't remember happened years ago @@TheMightyBildo

They are thieves. It’s a frickin scam. This is store policy. Pisses me off to no end. I bought 15 “new” games in this sale.
They shipped the order in 4 packages over the span of about 2 weeks.
5 were actually new.
10 were “GameStop new” which is just a used game with a GameStop “new” sticker on the front.
4 of the games didn’t even have cases. They were in paper dvd sleeves with their stupid “new” sticker”.
I called and told them they shorted me 4 games (the 4 bull crap paper sleeve games). And told them to send me 4 SEALED GAMES . The rep told me ok and they actually overnighted me a package but it only had 2 of the 4 games he promised. And of course they were “GameStop new” , not actually new.
I’m an idiot because I continue to give them opportunities to rip me off.
I feel your pain. I’m glad I’m not the only one who despises them. lol I won’t order anything off the website anymore. If I do buy from them it’ll be in store where I know what I’m buying
The cris tales game was new but the store you got it from didn’t do their job correctly because that means the display case for the last copy got lost or stolen and they still sold it as new. At my store we were trained to swap it to pre owned if we could not find the case or give the customer a shopworn discount for the inconvenience of not having the original case.
That sucks that you had to receive games from stores that employees were not trained properly! Pretty messed up in my opinion!

5 bucks each for Scarlet Nexus and Tales of Arise is a STEAL! Got me some extra copies. Gonna give a copy of Scarlet Nexus PS5 to a friend for Christmas. I got me an extra copy of Tales of Arise since I don't have it on PS4 even though the PS5 version is the superior version which I own. I was really disappointed with GameStop though cause even though my PS4 copy of Tales of Arise was sealed the disc was loose inside and the plastic on the case has slight damage to it. I can easily replace it though no problem and for the price I'm not too mad. My second PS5 copy of Scarlet Nexus wasn't sealed either.
