I bought ANOTHER refurbished console from GameStop... I was finally able to come across a refurbished PS5 from gamestop, so I picked it up. They definitely did some refurbishment to this console... but it's not good. Let me know what you think about this Refurbished PS5 console from GameStop!
Forgot to mention it in the video, but I'd rate this refurbishment a 3/10.

I think someone needs to tell GameStop that a magic eraser doesn't remove dust. You need a brush and compressed air
Do not use compressed air and do not use a brush, only if it’s to loosen up dust that a vacuum is having trouble suctioning up.
If you only use a brush and compressed air you’ll push all the dust down and into the power supply vents. If the dust gets into the power supply, there’s no getting it out.
Yup. It literally says what's it meant for. And polishing and dusting is not one of them!
refurbished is supposed to mean that the machine was cleaned and repaired if needed back to factory specs. in this case going further and actually cleaning out the dust was apparently too much for them. you can clean that up without having to remove the heatsink. (compressed air and a brush do wonders.) makes me wonder if goodwill and gamestop use the same employees lol
😂😂 maybe they do
This refurbished PS5 is only 20 to 30 Dollard less than what I bought my new one for🫥
@@jrob0021 no we dont we litteraly box it up and put it in the back
They don't do any of things you mentioned. I purchased 5 consoles in 12 months after a house fire to replace mine and my kids, and all of the "refurbished" ones I got, were literally visually checked and/or just packaged in game stop boxes. When I kept asking why did the consoles felt just used and reboxed, the manager told me that all they do is quick visual inspection and just make sure that it turns on. They tell people that they do but they don't and it clearly shows on this video.
Come on now goodwill at least looks at the items they resell don't disrespect them lol. Refurbished doesn't have the same value as you think it dose. It's a quick look over buy it back for less than 50% value resell it for 90% value it's about profits not quality.
Not only did you save 10 bucks but you also got a great coat of sanding too. What a deal.

Gamestop never fails to disappoint and I knew they would mess with the glossy part 😂
Come to think of it, no game store fails to disappoint these days. 🤷🏻♂️
yep, even before i start the video, somehow we will all know they will magic eraser the glossy part
Lmao you don't expect nothing from them and yet they still manage to disappoint
Definitely
Why would they scratched that part with magic eraser?
I had a house fire back in '19 and lost everything. I started out by buying a refurbished one from Game Stop. When I got home with the console, even though it said refurbished, I noticed that the consoles weren't cleaned out, the cables were all twisted up, and the controller felt very worn. When I went back and asked for another one, I checked it and the same thing. After pressing the matter and getting upset at the store, the store manager finally told me that they just go to a general warehouse where l they do plug them in to test them and maybe do a visual inspection of the hardware. There's no taking them apart or reconditioning them, no cleaning out the dirt marks from the controllers...they literally just make sure they turn on, and push them right back out on one of their boxes. I won't ever be buying anything refurbished, it's pretty disappointing already when you have to settle for something used, now imagined not reconditioned?!?!?

Very good chance that "dark dust" is roach droppings. That would also explain that smell. They tend to love consoles and anything that stays warm

Or maybe a new employee did it 😂
The packaging wasn't the focus of this video
They scratched up the entire console with magic eraser, do you really think the morons that was in charge of handling this console was going to package it correctly at that point? They clearly arent the sharpest tool in the shed.
@@piccoloxi The packaging IS part of the review. To see if they even make sure the console is safe when shipping it to you is important. They didn't even do that correctly.
Micheal Sativa I currently work part-time for gamestop as their Playstation fixer and it gets to a certain point where my manager tells customers to never buy refurbished consoles because it's considered refurbished because someone traded in a console that had problems

I bought a refurbished ps5 from GameStop and it was nearly perfect and packaged way better than this 🤷🏼♂️
As someone who’s brother worked at GameStop he told me that they use magic erasers to clean the consoles, it’s like procedure. At least where he worked but seeing this makes me think it’s happens everywhere. Like do they not realize it scratches things to clean it? Painful to see
Disinfected wipes would offer better results.
Cap
It's not everywhere. I don't know which stores use Magic Eraser to clean used consoles but my local stores use brushes, the way it's supposed to be
@@Rman1228 pre-owned consoles and refurbished gamestop console are two different things
@@Rman1228 The stores themselves do not clean the systems. When you return a system to GameStop. GameStop sends it to one of two refurbishment centers. All cleaning and refurbishment gets done at those refurbishment centers.
Unless the product comes directly from the manufacturer then it's not truly a Certified Reconditioned product. Every company I have bought refurbished products directly from has sent out machines that looked 100% brand new and were indistinguishable from brand new. That's why you never trust Amazon, Ebay, Gamestop or any other reseller when they sell refurbs because that are not truly refurbs. This is insanely horrible what Jacob received.
What are the companies names?

I saw Henry making a genuine point then Cheezit questioned him about what are the company's names??? I don't see the point of a such a question either. It's irrelevant because I know for a fact that companies like Apple for example that sell refurbs sell them in perfect condition. I've seen "refurb" Apple products sold on Ebay in terrible condition. Not the best way to get an answer out of someone by sticking up for another member here and jumping in someone's face. Just sayin'.
As a former GameStop manager I can tell that brown stuff probably isn’t just dust or dirt. More than likely that console was infested with roaches and that’s the remnants. A LOT of consoles gamestop get traded in are roach infested.

They’re fairly easy to get brand new for $500 in the US now. These refurbished ps5s from GameStop don’t go in stock very often though
Wow, I keep forgetting how huge the system is.
for real...
From when I worked there they only did that if the system came in reallly scratched on the glossy parts of the system then they would do it. I guess they thought even looking scratches looks better than uneven?
I bought mine on eBay, only when I got the package… it was full of bubble wrap and a note that said “In your dreams Baldie” it broke my heart. 😢
It's almost impressive how GameStop literally at every possible opportunity, makes the wrong call.
At this Point getting something like this is just a Part of the Gamestop experience, and im not quite sure If the employees are either incompetent or just lazy.
I mean i don't consider myself as a tech guy but im definitely able of opening a console and cleaning it atleast and if needed changing the Liquid Metal too, and If im able how can someone working in a Tech Shop or whatever the term for their Shops are not be able to do the bare Minimum?
No wonder they are closing up shops Worldwide, im surprised people put up with their scams for this long because at this Point it's exactly what it is.
When you sell hardware to GameStop they give you little but when they resell it they charge way more than what it's worth.
how else would they make a profit? lol, if you want all the profits sell it on offerup… don’t sell it to someone who has to make a profit on it
I use to work at GameStop. Sometimes those consoles go from off the customers hands to straight into the refurbished box.
My local Walmart here in amarillo texas has them in stock all the time
When you return it that’s a whopping $32.50 store credit.

That ps5 definitely belonged to a person with a massive vaping habit lol. I see it all the time when cleaning out a few of my buddy's PC and its one of the most annoying dust clean outs to deal with.
Vape does not make that dust vape is liquid

I got a refurbished ps4 pro 2 years ago and the area where they used magic eraser on the top is stupidly noticeable
I worked at GameStop for many years (many years ago). I eventually held a store manager position and we hated these corporate refurbs. We would push used (or new in many cases due to price) because we knew when cleaned them and tested them as well (if not better).
I can't speak to today but when I worked there, the smell was the chemicals and sanding process they used to get scuffs out.
@@MyLifePixeled As a current GameStop employee we also try to push our pre-owned clearly the GameStop he got this from was just lazy 😂😂
@@2hile322 Right! We sold so few refurbs that we rarely got more than 1-2 in at a time. This may have changed but we just wanted to take better care of the customers. It was less of a headache in the future.
The gamestop I work at is strict about cleanliness. We don't even take some systems if they're too scratched up. We've never used magic erasers, and I didn't even know that was a thing lol. We personally clean our systems like new but we know most of the other ones in our area barely clean they're systems. It's a store to store thing unfortunately.
Most "Refurbished" consoles from GameStop aren't really refurbished
Now it makes sense why my wiiU was so scratched up when I got it from GameStop back in 2014
Wait?! How did u get the browser to work like that… I don’t have that on mine
When I was younger, I loved GameStop. I wanted to work there so I can help people with games I play and start a good community. Now, GameStop needs to shut down. This is lying to the customer, it’s not referbished. Along with all the other controversies GameStop has, they need to go out of business.
Indeed, i don't know gamestop because i live in a different country, but they simply damaged the console to the point it's not worth 300 either. Refurbished is cleaning it and replacing damaged parts while reusing good condition parts.
Just clean the power supply , and heat skink and it’ll be fine
I got an oil change at a big drive through place. They checked my cabin air filter by taking it out. It had tons of old crap on it and they put it back without even dusting it off. A couple taps and if woulda been fine. I think gamestop wants the machine to break again.
Are you from KC? Your Joe’s Kansas City shirt really stood out to me because I love that place. Such good food!
Wow!!! That's nuts!! It is so easy to find a brand new PS5 right now at normal retail price. There is honestly no really good reason to buy one from gamestop. Especially after seeing the condition of a used one from them in this video.
Where? I bought mine a years ago for $700. I have yet to see one in the stores before or after I bought it.
I have never seen one, I dont even bother. I'm good with my ps4 pro and PC. Probably will skip this generation.

Than you would be a fool then to pay that much for this. You can get a brand new one for just $10 more. How badly they scratched up up and how dirty it was, this console isn't worth no $490 whether it work or not. You need to learn the value of money. It simply doing the bare minium of "working" doesn't justify that resall price. Not refurbished console in this condition should only be $10 less than retain. Should be way more cheaper than that.

you oughta start using Scratch doctor with a buffer on scratched consoles, works magnificently
Now I'm just wandering if you actually did get a refund or not😅
I bought a used controller last week at half price because they were out of new ones and I swear that thing was brand new I would not be surprised if they sold it to themselves and repackaged it and called it used. That way they register two sales and possibly sell you a warranty for maximum profits.
If they sold it to themselves they aren't making money. They already paid more to the wholesaler for the new controller they have to sell if for full price to get that wholesale price money back and still make their profit.
a lot of their pre owned games look brand new
I just bought one on Walmart a couple of weeks ago brand new for 559$. The disc model
GameStop is pretty much a joke at this point. I’m surprised they are even still around with so many people just purchasing digital versions of games nowadays.
I ordered one from GameStop recently and it came in fine.
Could you please post a link to the screwdriver set that you used in this video? I need to buy a set myself because I want to disassemble my PS5 to clean it however I don't have the right screwdriver heads to do so. Thanks!

Gamestop is now at a point were it is officially a complete joke. They use no packaging anymore as you all can see. Same happened to me, but WORSE. I went to my local GS and traded a near mint console and got a disgusting, grimmy, console with cracks all over the vents. It had dust all inside of it, It also had the serial number completely rubbed off. It had liquid Goo on it also. I took it directly back into the store to here gamestop's oddball employee excuses. It was pretty embarrassing to have to do to be honest but I dont give a F. Once they saw how Fu*kd this this really was. The gamestop manager acted as if he was going to yell at someone but was acting weird. He falsely acted befuddled and changed it out for a mint condition one as the one I traded was. It was a joke of a experience and I could only imagine how they would have called me a liar if I went all the way home to open it up. There wasn't even a Serial number on the console. Beware and buy at your own risk folks.
I worked on PS5 remotes at the GameStop Refurb center the PS5 thumbsticks are actually ps4 thumbsticks if they replaced the stock ones
This is why I always buy new. I purchased two PS5 last year...both directly from the playstation network. It takes time, but you can do it. Once a system comes available, you have to jump on it. I paid $399 digital PS5 for my son plus tax, it was about $435. Brand new and works perfectly. I purchased a non-digital PS5 for my nephew for about $599 plus tax around $640. Brand new and no problems. Jacob paid $490 for a refurbished and it looks like junk.
I love these videos and I hate GameStop as much as the next person but fair is fair... this was a "certified pre-owned" system not a "refurbished" one. They are two completely different things. The former means it's a used console turned in that didn't need any work done to it to function while the latter means it was repaired to a certain extent.
every single pre owned console sent to gamestop gets sent to a refurbishment center before resell. This is a refurbished one.
as a gs employee, true. there are consoles we just visually check and clean and sell. but, there are times we mark the console defective and send it to our warehouse, who ACTUALLY REPAIR AND CLEAN IT.
