    My father was a chauffeur for the board of directors of a big company. He was responsible for the cars for the board. This type of Rover was one of those cars. I remember he took me to break it in (brand new car). He took me to….. the racing circuit of Zandvoort, bought a ticket and drove two laps at considerable speed! I have never forgotten that. But suppose it would have gone wrong! He would have lost his job. Not that that mattered much in those days (no unemployment). I think it must have been because he survived three years in Berlin as a forced laborer in WW2. He lived his life from then on as if on borrowed time. RIP dad. This video brings back fond memories.

    I love the deep colour of your car, the inside is pure luxury. I remember being a passenger in one of these, at 60mph It didn't feel as if we were moving.

    Very nice!
    I have a small collection of Rovers....a P5, but not a P5B. I have from the P4 to the SD1, and the P5 is truly a gentleman's car, pure British establishment.

      The engine is not running properly, it sounds like a tractor.
      If not used much, check the ignition system, points plugs etc then balance those carbs. It should run with just a rustling sound. Everything else looks great!

    • @muckle8
      @muckle8 Před 25 dny

      @beaufighter245 the coupe was the pin up model back in the day , more coveted and more rare but I always preferred the look of the saloons squarer roofline personally , I think it suited the rest of the car better. I’d happily settle for either now!

      @Dunstire. I had my first ride in one of these beauties at 5 years old , a zircon blue coupe with ivory leather, it belonged to a local newsagent shop owner and my father used to service it on occasion , even 50 years later if I close my eyes I can still see the scene - loved ALL the proper Rovers . My biggest regret was not buying my own circa 1990 , I changed my mind and got a 2.8 capri instead! Those years were good fun on britains roads.

      Good question. I can get away with it a little in winter when everybody has their windows closed, but I have to keep it to a minimum and make sure its not on a weekend. Making any kind of noise, (even cutting your lawn) after Saturday noon is illegal here in Austria.
