    Sir Alec, I like the compressor on the vocals. Im still debating whether I like the piano dry or with compression, Great presentation and yes, these are on my list of 500 series models to purchase for my Cranbourne Audio rack.

    alex can i suggest you should try and do some studio visits. we dont have a channel doing them in the uk and it's a very much needed thing! and youd be perfect for it. x

    • @alecbrits

      Hey Olivia! :) that is very much part of the plan, the biggest thing holding me back from doing that currently is finding a way to be able to film them the way that I’d like to. It’s nice to have the walk around tours, but it would be cooler to be able to see and hear the studios in action. Any suggestions would be more than welcome for things you would like to see.

    These looks awesome! Amazing musicianship and production on the demonstrations! This a random question but I wanna get into 500 analogue gear for recording R&B/smooth jazz saxophone and vocals. Do you think this chain would be good: SSL Six Mic Pre, Trident 80B EQ and DBX 560A Comp?

    • @alecbrits

      Sounds like a solid chain! :)

    Alec your mixes are very good. Do you use headphones or studio monitors to mix?

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Před rokem

      Thank you so much! :) it depends really. If I’m not in the studio and editing for the CZcams channel, sometimes I use my Neumann NDH30 headphones, other times I’m able to mix on the ATC’s here in the studio. :)

    • @amalgami
      @amalgami Před rokem

      @@alecbrits great. If any of these mixes on your channel are done on headphones solely, you are a great mixing artist. I saw a lot of your work is original tracking of instruments/vocals. I wonder, if sample library based work can sound as good with just one instrument tracked. A bit of a vague question, but since diff libraries and synths etc are all recorded at diff rooms, mics, gain staging etc, I have a difficult time making them all fit in. Would be great to know your take on this in some future video..

  • @Pianitara
    @Pianitara Před rokem +4

    I think with the expertise that you possess, apart from gear reviews, why don't you do videos on topics like song structure and composition. Because your songs has magic in them. That way your channel will attract more viewers. It's just a suggestion.

    Hey curious, what mic did you use to sing? Do you remember the chain? It sounded nice and smooth.
    Would you say the Phoenix eq sounds thicker than a neve? You mention you wanted a high pass so it makes me wonder how it compares. From what I have heard it seems pheonix audio stuff is a bit more open than a neve counterpart?
    Thanks!

      I would not say that the Phoenix sounds thicker than a Neve. I totally agree with you that the Phoenix stuff feels more open. I’m a big fan of the Phoenix tone.

    Just watching you twiddling the knobs and flicking the switches, they seem rather close together to the point that they looked somewhat fiddly and awkward to use. Was that your experience?

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Před rokem +2

      As I said in the video the Compressor was a little too tight for my hands. The other units were spot on. Because each of the pots on the Phoenix units are indented, they don’t move accidentally if you gently touch one.

    I mix the same way ITB wih nebula....
    The More you can make
    Each bus Breath....after Compression and EQing...the less you have to "Have certain busses blaring" to be heard, then you can level mix and do final masters that sound more "Music, Wider and Analog Vibey"
    Nebula ITB with "Affordable analog gear" gives you the same results.........

      Thanks@@geoffreymerrifield5666! Hard to know for sure. I guess that may come down to where you are, and what you are looking for. 1073’s are all sounding pretty wicked nowadays. If you are in the states, the BAE might be easier to repair. However, if you are in the uk NEVE are here and can have anything easily maintained. :) tonally, I don’t think it matters. Mics/room and tone have a far bigger impact than the small differences in various versions of the same thing. Hope this helps!
