You can see why they won. I loved the sense of tension and surprise that they created almost immediately, and how incredibly well matched their sounds is as a group.
I hope this team stays together for the long run. They are terrific. I keep hearing details that I have never heard before and it is immensely satisfying.
definitely a winning performance in my grasp of things.
larger than life and so physically demanding yet they make it look effortless!!!!
These musicians really communicate together. The essence of great chamber music! Thank you, You Tube!
inspiring !!!!!!!!!
Just saw them last night at The Montreal International Chamber Music Festival...Wonderful energy amongst each other as well
saw these guys in person- it was absolutely fantastic.
00:55 I. Allegro
10:37 II. Molto adagio
23:54 III. Allegretto
31:05 IV. Finale. Presto
The slow movement is perfectly constructed. A remarkable performance.
Excellent delivery, delicate and strong at the same time.
Brilliant music and musicianship.
Bravissimi i quattro giovani del Dover Quartet. Meritano una lunga carriera costellata di successi!
A well deserved win, indeed.
I was privileged to see the Dover Quartet last night at Univ. of Denver. Transcendent, precise, elegant, unworldly.
Darn, I wish I'd known about them three years ago. I live in Denver and I've just discovered them. I'm smitten!
What an incredible sounding room.
Wonderful ❤
Absolutely fantastic.
Amazing performers !!
Bravo guys! Sounds great!
I can hear why they won! Alan in London
The Dover Quartet does an AMAZING job on this piece. no wonder they took the prize!
Cameraman does not know this piece of music or how to keep the shot on the primary player in a passage. You'd think the ensemble consists of the 1st violin and viola. Incredibly annoying! @Banff Centre I hope you have addressed this for later filmings.
Beautiful playing. I liked the way they looked at each other (particularly the end stations) and made such a balanced sound. I liked the violist's old-fashioned gown and the violist in it. Beethoven!
creativity and imagination has no limits... each time i hear these ubber talented muscians , i realise that i am with God.
Very, very, very good! But I pray for one (1) fixed camera showing the whole ensemble. Here the player in focus appears to be chosen at complete random, utterly disregarding what "happens" in the score.
@105343080350451172331 Not quite true, although i agree a fixed camera would be better. There is a tendency for the camera to linger on the beautiful violist, not always at the right time.
@@MrFpam . . . and to avoid the beautiful cellist!
I agree. And this is quite widespread in classical music videos. Unfortunately the ability to work a camera does not always go hand-in-hand with the ability to follow a complex piece of music. Filmmakers should be more knowledgeable about the subjects they are attempting to capture. We expect no less from crews filming sports events and we deserve an equal amount of knowledge about the subject matter when it comes to serious music. At the very least they should be open-minded enough to ask for input from the musicians.
Just Wow!
very inspiring !
Quartetto n. 8 in mi minore, op. 59 (Quartetto "Razumovskij" op. 59 n. 2; Vienna, 1806). I tempi sono: Allegro - Molto adagio (mi maggiore) - Allegretto - Presto.
very beautiful
I wish i could create such astonishing beauty so easily
Aural Pleasure easy? not
Larry Primeau yes of course .... one of my favourite pieces of music
If you meant musical composition, it is one of the most difficult (and fabulous) realms of artistry, which is getting even harder over time.
Sadly, Milena left the group in 2022. Hezekiah Leung is the new Dover violist.
He was a genius. Beethoven i mean.
Wow. The first violinist is great, but did the camera really have to be on him 99% of the time? There were other people playing.
Pre-Haydn the string quartet was essentially the first violin with accompaniment. But since then, one the string quartet genre's greatest strengths is the equality of all four voices.
Doesn't it look like the second violinist gave the cue in the beginning? Hm interesting
he did actually, the slight up take before playing the downbow is the cue.
bravo
Solid eyebrow game 1st violin! cudos to you! Great performance by the quartet as well! hehehe. Cheers!
31:05 Movement 4
The guy on the far right is basically Landon Donovan with more hair.
The cellist had hair back then 😭
Si je ne me trompe pas , le mouvement 2 est marqué par Beethoven molto adagio ; c est donc un non-sens de l interpréter ainsi.
celloのadjasterがないのが気になる。調弦が大変だろう?

What piece is this? It is a great piece of music. Very nicely put together. Is it Beethoven? Seems mostly like Beethoven but not quite as rich. Is it Mendellsohn?
Beethoven, String Quartet No.8, Op.59 No.2
intervalkid It is clearly stated more than once at the heading of the video. Beethoven String Quartet in E minor,
Op.59, No.2. Mendelssohn was influenced by Beethoven's quartets.
It is not clearly stated more than once at the heading of the video. It is half visibly listed at the top for 2 seconds and IF you put your mouse overtop the video. The most I can see is Dover Quartet Beeth... Which IS enough to answer my question about the composer but not enough to know the piece. I understand that Mendellsohn is heavily influenced by Beethoven, that is obvious. You may wish to be snide in which case I will write you off as a fake. Due to the fact that I am an innovative and known music theorist and composer.
+intervalkid Perhaps you have a problem with your computer. Immediately under the video it states in large print BISQC 2013 - The Dover Quartet- Beethoven Quartet in E minor. You have twice spelt Mendelssohn incorrectly. Nothing in my comment could be regarded as snide and writing me off as a fake is a silly and meaningless threat. You regard yourself highly as a known music theorist and composer, but you did not know this very well known quartet by Beethoven, so perhaps it is you who is the fake.
how beautifully special the artists playing is all that matters
God exists!! .... evidence pouring through my ears.... aural bliss!!
Beethoven is my god ;p
Aaahhhh... the slower tempo at 35:58 is just wrong lol. And I think the ending went by too fast.
The Emerson also do a slower tempo there
Doverは上手だ。
