I kinda agree. It at least deserves to be above both All-Stars and Pahkitew and honestly I think the hate for reboot Season 2 is a bit much. Why? Because outside of the last 3-ish episodes before Priya's elimination, I actually liked the whole cast except Priya, Chase, and Nichelle. Most characters weren't derailed, just flanderized or had weird character directions.
Caleb had no character prior to season 2. So you can't really argue that he was derailed
Axel and Nichelle also barely had any personality in season 1; they just didn't do much with them.
      SG didn't change.
Damien was reset to his pre-season 1 development but remained the same.
MK, Zee, Chase, Priya and Bowie were consistent with their season 1 selves.
      Emma was mostly the same.
The hockey bros got flanderized, not derailed.
Julia was the same, just more overpowered.
      Millie got flanderized and reset.
Ripper was the only one truly derailed, losing all his distinguished traits.

S2 of the reboot only really focusses on certain characters (being Julia & Prileb) while the rest kinda fall into the background (even Wayne, who won the season). Characters like Axel, Nichelle, Emma, MK, Ripper, Damien & Scary Girl had a lot of potential but they either are pretty irrelevant to the plot, barely had anything done to them, get complety derailed for a shitty plotline (Millie) or werent used to their potential (it still is weird that MK and Julia bonded at the start while MK exposed Julia while Julia got her booted.)
    My boot order would be
16: Chase (his elimination in ep 2 was perfect but i really couldnt think of anyone else to put in this spot, so i think chase is most likely)
15: Millie ( In my universe she never pushed someone of a meat grinder slide & was out probs due to caleb to make Priya's focus be on him or something like that)
14: Scary girl (wish she got further but also, its pretty realistic in my opinion)
13: Emma (i dont mind her placement but i do mind how she got eliminated, like she obviously knows ppl but like idk, make team skunk butt kinda sabotage the other team, tho idk how exactly. Like maybe by swapping the correct answers with the wrog answers and MK probs edits the others by making them say the opposite by other what)
12: Wayne (like him, i think its a fair placement)
11: Bowie (again, a fair placement. But i mind the shit that happend Off screen.)
    10. Axel (probs to eliminate a showmance, and cuz axels the bigger threat they vote her off
Merge time (a 5 episode pre merge is... something)
9/8. Priya & Caleb (i think them being eliminated together is good ig.. tho i wouldnt mind Priya quitting this season but it is whatever really)
    7. Nichelle (idk, probs cuz she used Jerry or smth? I have no clue, or shes voted out due to her ego or something off that nature
    6. Julia (i need mk to get julia eliminated for revenge of s1)
    5. Raj ( um idk! Its an okay placement ig)
    4. Zee (by some purge challlenge ig, i want him to have plot but also my mind doesnt have ideas)
    3. Ripper (a redemption arc kinda, development ig)
    2. MK (main antagonist, think this is a good placement so yeah!)
    1. Damien (i think out of everyone, i think Damien would be the most deserving out of everyone here.)
Yeah i dont ideas really, so umm. But i think these placements are good in my eyes. I hate how Scary girls plot is wasted as it was a cool idea.

My thoughts on all the reboot characters
Caleb - Boring character that could have been good in season 2
Axel - cool design that went to total waste on Gidgette 2.0
    Nichelle - BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING
Lauren - my favourite reboot character. Appeals to my love of goofy horror and she's got a great design. Hope she does well in a future season and I think she could work great as a meme villain like Max or Justin
Damien - I liked him decently enough in season 1, season 2 he was a great character who deserved better the elimination he got
MK - I wasn't crazy about her in season 1 but I loved her in season 2
Wayne and Raj - good comic relief characters. I was okay with Wayne winning tbh
Ripper - hated him in season 1. Season 2 he had the potential to be good but it went to waste thanks to making him Gidgette 2.0
Zee - one of the best characters in season 1, totally wasted and derailed in season 2
Chase - he's kinda hit or miss for me in season 1. Season 2 he was pretty funny
Emily - wasn't a big fan in season 1, didn't leave much of a meaningful impression in season 2
Julia - I wasn't crazy about her in season 1, but I thought she was pretty good in season 2 when she wasn't consulting wizards to do things off screen for her. Loved her bits with MK
Millie - wasn't a fan in season 1, annoying fodder in season 2
Bowie - just a great and well written character
Priya - white bread in season 1, the worst part of season 2
Chef - I like his bit where he calls out the contestants before the marshmallow is given out but he's nothing compared to how he was in the original trilogy
Chris - I kinda almost see Terry Chris and Potenza Chris as 2 different entities even though they aren't if that makes any sense idk. I like most people prefer OG Chris but I think Terry does a good job voicing him.

I agree with a lot of your points about Caleb post the pinball episode, but I disagree about you saying that he was a villain early on.
This may be just me, but I never saw him as a villain in the early episodes, it doesn’t seem like he was being a sneaky manipulator trying to trick Priya into falling in love with him, he was just trying to get closer to her to convince her to make an alliance with him and “flirting” is the only way he knows how to do that.
It sounds stupid, but Caleb is pretty stupid when it comes to social skills, there’s hints throughout the show that he doesn’t really get to socialize all that much because of how much his parents demand of him, and given how everyone around him seems to fall in love with him, it does seem a bit more logical that acting flirty and smooth is the only way Caleb understands to interact with others.
I don’t think he was necessarily trying to trick Priya, but that he thought they were both on the same page about this whole thing just being an alliance and after Zee introduces the idea of it becoming something more, he actually thinks about it and likes the idea.
Again, this just how I interpreted it on my first watch, and I haven’t watched S2 in a while, so my memory about the episodes is a little foggy. I do agree with you that Caleb took a huge nosedive after Ep 8 (Well, I guess episode 10 to be more specific), I don’t think it was bad enough to make him THE worst character in the whole show (In fact, I still like him), but yeah, it was REALLY bad, I did *mostly* like him in the Finale, but in episodes 10 - 12? Yikes…

    • @voiceunderthecovers
      @voiceunderthecovers  Před měsícem +6

@@BendonPC that’s a pretty good interpretation of his character actually, and it makes sense. I still think that trying to get close to someone for personal gain does make him a bad friend at the very worst, but I can see why you’d think he’s a good character regardless.

@@voiceunderthecovers This cast had a lot of potential. Season 1 wasn't the best, but it made me really enthusiastic about them returning for a second season. There were lots of characters who didn't get their time to shine and now they finally had a second chance.
As much as I like Priya and Julia to see the same two girls make it to the final 4 was disappointing.
I liked the MKJulia friendship, but MK leaving before Julia in this season was really bad. It was the perfect opportunity for us to see MK being a villain by herself and not be overshadowed by Julia. Her elimination didn't make much sense either.
We also never got to see Emma having a plot of her own that doesn't involve Chase.
Nichelle actually had her own plot going on, but they dropped that too just to make her quit the game. Not to mention that in those 5 episodes we barely saw. When the first trial was posted I was confident Nichelle will be a villain, but nah. I hope that in season 3 she will make it further in the game and actually be relevant. They should make her get revenge on Julia
AND OH LORD JULIA ! I like Julia, I find her really entertaining. BUT WHAT'S WITH THAT PLOT ARMOUR ? The idol thing was plain stupid. How did she even find it ? How did the note help her find it ? Everything was off screen just like when Riya's stole Rosa's idol, but at least Riya knew who had the idol and where Rosa was keeping it so it made sense. The hair part was unnessary and unoriginal in my opinion. It was a reference to when Heather got shaved , but we don't need two different characters getting a similar karma.
Axel had so much potential. They did her so dirty. She acts rude towards everybody, but she has a kind soul and this season she wanted to finally redeem herself and act nicer towards the others. The way she helped Damian in episode 2 was wholesome. I really want to see a friendship between these two. Axel could help Damian overcome some of his fears and Damian could help Axel show her kind side more often and be less aggressive. I really like how despite her attitude Axel values fair play, she could've been a great protagonist. To be honest, I actually like Axel and Ripper. They were adorable at the beginning of the season and it was really fun to watch their silly interactions. Ripper was like my least favourite character when I finished season 1 , but I really didn't mind him getting together with Axel at all. That was until the creator chose to make them like Geoff and Bridgette. THEM BEING GIDGETTE 2.0 IS OUT OF CHARACTER FOR BOTH OF THEM !! Like Ripper was a total dickhead in the last season why would he be all lovey dovey in this season ? Axel was pretty competitive at the start of this, so why drop it now just to make out with Ripper ? Bridgette was my favourite character in TDI. I loved her with all my heart, but then they had her make out with Geoff for a whole season. She had her chance to shine in World Tour, but nope , they had her make out with a pole instead. If they don't give up on the Gidgette 2.0 by season 3 istg. It's not even realistic, people don't kiss 24/7 in the real world.
NOW ONTO RIPPER, AGAIN ANOTHER WASTED OPPORTUNITY ! Yes, he did improve as a person , but why did it happen off-screen ? It was such a waste to have him leave the island with Axel. Chris didn't let Duncan quit in s3, but he is ok with Ripper just jumping on the drone and is not even attempting to get him back when they are like 2 meters away from him ? Ripper was destroyed by the Gidgette plot, so we needed some episodes with him after Axel left. I wanted to see how much he has developed as a character in between seasons. They should have made everyone dislike Ripper after s1 and then they should have given him one episode where he gets to shine and everybody's bad opinion on him changes.
Scary Girl's normal girl arc was a big failure. Yes, she is in the show for comedy purposes only, but I really want to see her make it far once. She's not a threat game-wise, because it is super easy to distract her from a challenge or eventually try to get her vote. Well yeah, she is creepy as hell, but she did help her team win in s1, so she could have been useful pre-merge. I really want to hear her backstory, it would be interesting knowing what happened in her life before joining TD.
Priya and Caleb was a disaster. Priya seemed a bit out of character this season. She was way too naive and had anger issues. Overall she just felt different from season 1 Priya. Everything you said about Caleb is 100% correct. His character confused the hell out of me. I liked him for the first part of season 2, after that I really wanted to root for him, but couldn't. Like you would pretend to be in love with someone to win a game but you wouldn't doublecross Julia to save your girlfriend ? What the fuck ? Not to mention their relationship was a mess. They kept fighting and making up for the sake of the plot and by the end of the season I couldn't even tell if they truly have feelings for each other or not.
I've always hated Millie and I always will. Even in season 1 she was so plain and boring and it was a pain to watch her make it to the finale. However, I still believe they did her dirty in season 2. I was happy to see her gone early, but not like that. Pushing Damian down a deadly slide after getting a long ass redemption arc ? Why ? JUST WHY ? If I were Damian I wouldn't have forgiven her.
Chase is pretty much the same which I am honestly okay with.
Damien too, he was the only one I was rooting for in this season.
As for Zee , who is Zee ? That ain't Zee, my buddy. He wasn't even funny this season, it's like he ran out of Zeecharm. It felt like his only purpose in this show was to fuel the Priya-Caleb plot.
Well I am too lazy to write , so for Raj and Wayne I am on the same page as you. I wish they would interact with more people outside their circle ( especially Raj ).

Don't underestimate how poorly written Priya was since S1 though. I can't recall a character who ever held up worse on a rewatch for me. I suppose it's not completely her fault that her horrible parents caused her to be the person she is, but like...Priya is not a redeemable person! She, through what she learned from her parents, PUSHES her best friend into doing shit that's basically against her will. And she NEVER gets called out on ANYTHING. The closest thing to such is when Millie is writing the notes in her diary about her. But even then, the whole thing is framed as that Millie is in the wrong somehow?? She legit did not say one bad word about Priya, she was complaining about her parents. And she's the one who's meant to apologize.
AND THEN...PRIYA WINS! 💀💀 Her controllers get what they wish, she doesn't even learn any corny 'friends>money' spiel I would've accepted, she just gets everything handed to her at the end after honestly behaving atrociously and aggressively throughout the entire season. I thought she was just bad in Season 2, but no, all the dislikeable traits of hypocrisy, malice, naivety, insidiousness, and privilege are all completely at play (if you need just one prime example, watch back just how much she takes Millie for granted for the entire season and all the little digs she throws at her that culminates in the quite personal attacks she said about her in their big pre-finale confrontation). This isn't even mentioning how BORING she is. Like, there is actually no life to any of her story usually, apart from yelling about how much she likes competition or something. Terrible character. Over-saturated to a never-endingly painful yet virtually bland fault. Bottom 5.
And yeah, all those bad qualities are cranked up to 11 in Season 2 and she makes it to endgame for no discernible reason I can think of outside of the unspoken rulings they have about how finalists somehow are necessary endgamers in their following season, despite _no fan_ liking this. Caleb was a terrible boyfriend and everything, but the inconsistency regarding how mad at him Priya is is also really in effect, as well as why she keeps trusting Julia, which no, is not excused just because they have Priya _acknowledging_ she doesn't trust her. That is straight-up just the writers admitting they just want to keep Julia there really long for no affable reason. But I blame Priya more for this because she's meant to be this tough challenger/superfan. And she just gets played the whole time. Her elimination is one of the few occasions in which I found it suitable to cheer on the _villain_ for taking her out.

While she is more interesting and has more potential than Julia, it doesn't necessarily mean she fits the role better.
Despite the dismay of 90% of the fandom, the main plot of the season was Prileb-a story about a guy who falls in love with a girl he initially only wanted to manipulate. As the story progresses, his lack of previous relationships and struggles to balance his relationship and the competition create multiple misunderstandings and drama between the two.
MK is underhanded, smart, cunning, and versatile. However, she wouldn't realistically handle a plot like Prileb well due to her lack of social skills. A more generic social antagonist like Julia is simply more effective for such a plot.
I'm honestly perfectly fine with her roles as a secondary antagonist this season, and I thought it was handled pretty well.

    • @voiceunderthecovers
      @voiceunderthecovers  Před měsícem +4

It's too bad that Julia still doesn't work in that role since nobody should trust her and her manipulation is extremely surface level. MK could at the very least plant hints and clues subtly, she doesn't have to speak to Priya or Caleb directly. Just plant seeds of doubt from the outside. That would do just fine for such a dysfunctional pair. Also, having as a secondary antagonist undermines her individuality and loner nature, making her out to be a follower instead of an anti social personality who has survived this long staying small.

    • @jessyhovington1587
      @jessyhovington1587 Před měsícem +1

@voiceunderthecovers Yes, they shouldn't have trusted Julia. I don't deny that she was badly handled, but there are multiple ways to involve Julia in that plotline without having Priya and Caleb blindly trust her.
Sure, MK could handle that, but having her minimally involved with Prileb wouldn't be enough to make her feel like a main antagonist. It would make her feel far less threatening than Julia, which is especially bad given that she's supposed to be the sole antagonistic force for a while.
I wouldn't call MK the follower within the duo. They were on pretty equal footing within the cheating plotline, and then pretty much didn't do anything with each other from episodes 6 to 8. The only time she somewhat felt like a follower was in that one scene at the beginning of episode 9, but that alone isn't enough to make her one
Her loner side was still present, but she couldn't afford to be one and fly under the radar since everybody knew who she was and she was put on a team dominated by Bowie and the hockey bros. She had no reason not to ally with someone. I see this more as her adapting to a new situation. However, I do think it somewhat undermines her loner side, i just don't think it's a issue as her season 2 characterisation is still consistant with her season 1 self. If they wanted to lean into that side of her character, they should've made her the antagonist of season 1 imo

Caleb didn’t manipulate Priya, he thought she wanted an alliance as well. He even states it in episode 5 (Priya and I will make an unstoppable alliance, and I know she’s thinking the same thing!) Campers approaching other contestants for alliances happens in every season - Bowie literally did the same thing with Emma in reboot s1.
And speaking of Emma, I like her but her elimination made perfect sense. Priding herself as a people person is totally in character since she’s such a capricious and delusional individual, and while it was the wrong call for Priya to tell Emma to go against her gut, it’s totally believable she’d presume Emma wouldn’t have a good read on Chase considering how she took him back TWICE over misunderstandings. She also had zero friendships/allies within her team- Priya was the de facto leader of the rat faces and had Caleb who wanted an alliance with her, Damien, Zee and Axel who were all on her team the previous season, and Nichelle had been rebuffed by Emma in episode one so…

Reboot s2 was in my opinion one of if not the worst seasons of Total Drama since it flanderized characters, made an unsatisfying winner (no hate to Wayne though), Julia had insane plot armor, all the characters that would've been interesting were booted early for fodder characters like Zee, Raj, and Wayne so here's what I would change about each character:
    Scary Girl: Perfect
    Chase: Perfect
    Millie: Perfect
Emma: Make her last longer her whole plotline was about Chase most of the time so it would be interesting seeing her go far without Chase this time)
Nichelle: Wasted character but I feel like her elimination should've been later and it was her cockiness that got her eliminated instead of a STUPID fake script.
    Bowie: Perfect
Axel / Ripper: To be honest it wasn't that bad but like tone down the gross stuff and make it not all of their plotline about it.
Zee: I actually really like Zee, but he feels like a filler character I don't mind him getting decently far but this wasn't the season, and it probably should've been Nichelle here.
MK: She should've been the main antagonist instead of Julia since her plot armor would actually make sense since she would just cheat and also it would be interesting seeing how she interacts with everyone else besides Julia.
Damien: His elimination was so bad like they never even showed Julia had the idol that was unreasonable plot armor and what was the point of giving Damien the idol when he would just get it stolen. I would also make his story this season about gaining more confidence in himself.
Raj: Overstayed his welcome should've gone earlier so Bowie and Wayne could grow without him but he's not bad.
Priya: I actually don't mind her and Caleb being a couple but just make it, so they connected because how similar their homelives and stuff are initially instead of Caleb trying to switch around between a soft boy and a strategist.
Caleb: Same as what I said about Priya
Julia: Make her either late merge or early merge since she overstayed her welcome and got way too much plot armor for somebody who everybody knows is a villain.
Wayne: He isn't a bad pick for a winner, but he was kind of just filler, and he never even interacted that much with anybody else which made it even less interesting since at least Owen, everybody interacted with him at least once in the merge, and he felt like one of the main characters that season. What I would change though is Wayne being alone from Raj and trying to get farther in the game for him causing him to win like originally but Raj getting eliminated much earlier.
So, my elimination order for these changes:
    16th: Scary Girl
    15th: Chase
    14th: Millie
    13th: Raj
    12th: Zee
    Merge
    11th: Ripper
    10th / 9th: Bowie and Julia
    9th: Axel
    8th: Nichelle
    7th: Emma
    6th: Damien
    5th: Priya
    4th: Damien
    3rd: Caleb
    2nd: MK
    1st: Wayne

I never really cared for Priya. Caleb is just a less interesting Justin and Nichelle is...Nichelle.
Julia and MK work better as frenemies. Their friendship kinda comes out of nowhere and it's probably gonna lead to a relationship if we get a Season 3.

My two cents on the cast is that because they were able to fit 15 compelling setups for characters (Lauren is a bit of a hard sell in that regard since you can just have her be an agent of chaos and I'd be okay with it) into 13 episodes, they didn't know what to do with them for the second season. Because of it, they ended up going through a lot of the same arcs again (IE Millie and Priya), having sudden developments between seasons (IE Nichelle, Ripper and begrudgingly MKulia) or just forgotten about in favor of 13 more episodes of Priya and Julia (didn't Priya want to make an alliance with Emily at one point?). Like you, I'm totally on board with some of the ideas (IE Caleb trying to make a connection with Priya so he can redeem himself, Ripper and Axel attempting to abandon the tough image and start a relationship, Damien finding the idol), but they bungle the execution so much because they want to focus on the same few characters. It's like if Action only focused on Gwen and Heather.
I'm probably not entirely correct in this regard, but I feel like they made the decision to streamline the reboot into the "Priya, Julia and Occasionally Everyone Else Show" was to cater to a younger audience. Having a clearly defined protagonist and antagonist basically gives them free reign to do whatever they want with the other 14 (to varying degrees of success). I don't want to call it another case of "Residual Dramarama", but it very well might be.

@@aequitad4411 These seasons, despite having romance plots and mild teenage angst within them, are no doubt catered towards kids. Rama was aimed at children ages 4-8, and so much is carried over from Rama to Reboot, from how Chef acts now to the design of toddler Priya to the way the humor is done. It’s all still totally TD, it just has tons of Rama flavoring in it that makes the general taste feel watered down.
Priya and Julia are such simple characters in season 2 that it really does make me think that the show is catering to audiences around 8-10 years old and that really sucks. TD hasn’t lost its way, but it certainly will soon enough if we continue down this pathway.

To be fair to Raj, him making a mannequin of himself by undressing was a smart idea and he thought of it on his own. Also, I don't think Caleb was ever a villain. He probably didn't even mean to flirt with Priya, just to make himself seem like the perfect ally, therefore a strategic move, but then he began to genuinely like her. If he'd been using her, he probably wouldn't even have told Zee that it was an alliance, not a relationship, unlike Alejandro and his "I was genuinely fond of Bridgette/Leshawna" when that's a total lie. Caleb's problem is that he's too honest and he appears to find discomfort in lying or even omitting info.
Also, if you're calling Emma by the wrong name to differentiate her from RR Emma, could you say that? I don't know why they didn't name her Emily because it was so easy to give her a variation on the same name instead of the exact one, but her name is still Emma.

Zee is a guy that other players would want to bring to the end because he’s so laid-back that he’s easy to beat. However, from a storytelling perspective, he’s just competent enough to where him winning isn’t out of the question. And Emily is another character that I don’t think the other players would see as a threat, so they’d want to keep her around. One of my biggest problems with season 2 is that really strong competitors like Priya and Julia were able to stick around for so long. I get her being bad socially because of what her parents did, but we don’t really see her implement the strategy and social play needed for games like Total Drama.
I think that would also fix her big issue in season 2. Have her be overly cautious and suspicious of people in season 1, then have her make an effort to be less so in season 2. That way it makes sense why she’s ignoring Caleb’s obvious scheming.

Like, yeah there are people who try to comp (win challenges) their way through the competition, but that doesn’t always work. Especially on Total Drama where there are many examples of people going home because they’re not well liked and have no contingency such as an alliance or a bigger target.
And I really disagree with the last part. Characters were implementing strategies since the first season. Heather forming an alliance with very gullible people, Justin and Alejandro using their physical charm and charisma to manipulate people, Scott throwing challenges to fly under the radar and falsely boost his competitors confidence before the merge, and Courtney planning who to vote off when after the merge in All Stars are just some examples of strategic play before the reboot.
