A lot of people forget that under the humor, one liners, jokes and other lighthearted fare...Ghostbusters is a legit horror movie.
In contrast, Afterlife is a fart compared to the original one.

Out of everything going on in this scene, I love how Venkman just goes along with it and doesn't seem weirded out in the slightest.
I'd say he is, but I think humor dissolves any tension he normally would have.
Well helps that he and the others have been on the job for a while now. So he’s probably seen it all and gotten slimed by all.

It's dawned on me recently (although, on the other hand, it's pretty obvious), that Zuul's being super sexualized (apart from making this scene so terrifying and hilarious) is because her FUNCTION is to mate with the Keymaster to bring about the arrival of Gozer. With Vinz, they go straight to business.

I first saw this movie in 1988 when I was about 6, and Sigourney Weaver in this scene was the first crush I ever had.
Sigourney Weaver has never not been incredible in literally every role she's in - highly recommend Galaxy Quest if you haven't seen it, she's hysterically funny and a complete 180 from Ripley
I love how Venkman is clearly panicking internally. Obviously, his humor could be used as a cover for him to deal with his fears to the point where his brain doesn't register that he's in danger. That way, he can focus on the problem itself, and not the distractions that that fear would cause.

Sigourney Weaver is one of the most talented and gifted actresses of her time.
She went from the all serious and no nonsense role in Alien to Ghostbusters where she was able to loosen up and express a lot of different emotions.
From childhood, I always thought she was born in the late 50s. I really thought she was 20 years old in Alien. She definitely did not look almost 30 at the time. She looked so young in Alien.
Even in her 70's, She STILL LOOKS STUNNING for someone who IS FROM NYC!! (Look it up!!)

and I was privileged to meet Sigourney at an London convention years ago she was an great person to meet and has an fantastic sense of humor.
They didn't have anything like this in "Ghostbusters: Afterlife". Think how chilling it would have been if Mommy dearest had started levitating out of that armchair in front of the kids. Podcast might have gotten more than one subscriber.

All other Alien actors had been in tons of theater/film roles before her. She was told she was "insanely fortunate" to be working with that cast! And she ended up having a bigger career than any of them... haven't ever heard her actually sing (unless you count "Lucky Star") but would be really interested to hear what she sounded like.
