- Seeing as how we're still under stay-at-home orders in California, and as I have caught up with all my other battle reports, I decided it was time to bring out the old Warhammer Quest board game and give it some exercise.
As I have already done a solo game with the stuff out of the box, this time I decided to use a team of expansion characters, specifically the Imperial Noble, the Bretonnian Questing Knight, the Witch Hunter and the Warrior Priest. Additionally, I included the monster, event and objective room cards from The Lair of the Orc Lord expansion. I've never used these before, but I have the models painted, so why not? The game can't really get any harder. And any cards I include that aren't Minotaurs can only be a good thing, right?
So let's see if my do-gooding humans can succeed where so many of my Warhammer Quest teams have failed. Leave a comment below if you have any questions, observations or concerns.
Into the dark, brave heroes.
"Dwarf fell into the fire and died. Everyone else just shrugs." - damn that got me.
Thanks. It’s possible with him always tripping over his own beard, his companions were all secretly expecting it.
Thank for this report, it brought back such great memories of playing this with friends. Please more reports like this 👍
Just finished the audio on the next one. Should be up in a couple days.
The Lady gave the Questing Knight a vision...that was this game. The next game is the Questing Knight trying to stop the disaster...
Right, exactly. The knight woke up and said, “On second thought, let’s not go to the Fire Chasm. It is a silly place.”
This narrative format is much better than watching dice rolls, dungeon building and referring to the rules.
Miniatures (esp. the Knight) look great!
Our group kept the healer/Wizard in the corner when entering a room with your main damage-dealer (Knight in this case) at the point so he can possibly get off deathblows. Of course you just had the worse luck with the Ring of Jade and Bless, so the Warrior Priest is trash.
Good for pulling the Cave in and D3 Minotaurs; we did the same thing, as well as giving everyone maximum hit points (and D3 minimum upon gaining levels) and limiting encounters (because back to back 1s leads to party-wipes) until all the monsters have been eliminated; they'd still be a 1 for the power level for the turn but we wouldn't draw from the deck; sure you might get consecutive encounters but they won't add up/stack all at once.
Yeah, I was really disappointed with the Warrior Priest. I think the Knight is great, though. I want to try him in a different party some day.
Nice Warhammer Quest battle report! I am really looking forward to the next session. It's a lot of fun to watch.
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it. The next one should be up tomorrow.
Incredible paint jobs!
Thanks. I try.
Since Fanatics swing madly around I would roll attacks on adjacent fanatics as well. One thing that speaks for every warrior getting attacked by every adjacent Fanatic is the roll of a 1 rule where the Fanatic strangles himself. That would mean that every Fanatic has to make a roll if there are adjacent warriors I guess..
Interesting points. I’ll have to look into it. The fanatic rules are really confusing to me, but I’ll reread them and adjust how I use them in the future.
@@dmgashbad4908 They are to me too.. 🤔😊 Thanks for the awesome WHQ video's.
Really nice battle report. Classic WHQ ending. LOVING the paintjobs you've done; very inspiring! I've subbed to your channel and I'm sure I'll be binging the rest of your playthroughs asap! :-)
Thanks. Great to hear. And, yeah, it’s a Quest ending I’ve seen quite a bit.
Great stuff!
Glad you like it.
i love ur paint jobs. they are so good! curious about the bases....do you clip of the thing underneth?
Thanks. Good question. No, typically I leave the tab on. I cover up any small gaps with bits of masking tape (or putty if I’m doing it right) and the cover it all with white glue and sand.
@@dmgashbad4908 thanks for ur fast respond! I cant wait to Paint my set. It was well expensive haha
Not using the Talon of Death on those Orcs seems weird.
It’s difficult to say what was going through my head at the time. Maybe I underestimated the orcs. Maybe I wanted to save it for the objective room. Maybe I just forgot I had it. All I know is there are now a bunch of orcs running around with a Talon of Death.
Damn I am so jealous you have the expansions. I just bought the base game because I can't stand AOS
Good for you. I love the game, and like you, I found that AOS was just not my thing. That Catacombs expansion was hard to get. I’d been off and on hunting eBay for it for years. Very happy to finally get it. Good luck in your dungeoneering.
I did have to check to find out if you were the real Kevin Sorbo. Might have added a few thoughts if that were the case.
@@dmgashbad4908 lol sorry for the tease but I'm not the real Hercules! The Warhammer I bought needs to be restored in a few ways. Did you have to restore anything? Or do you know of any way to better protect the tiles? Like coat them in something?
Technically I didn’t have to restore anything. A lot of my miniatures are replacements, either because I was missing them or I liked others better. My Catacombs set is missing all the floor tiles, but I figured I could either print out replacements or make 3D ones using foam. There are some great videos from people who made custom WHQ floor tiles.
@@dmgashbad4908 Awesome! just downloaded the expansion books and am going to have to do the same. I'll look into it. I appreciate the help! Awesome videos!
I hate this game. Every time I've seen anybody play this it's an uphill slog every time with the bullshit rules
To each their own. It does make games like Gloomhaven feel like you are playing on easy mode.
