What a fine idea to play this match, creating huge interest from the whole Chinese squad! We've had so many similar Olympic warm-ups that some variety like this was badly needed, bringing instant excitement and fresh motivation for CM.

Finally the Chinese have answered me. I always wanted such a match up between male and female players at the highest. For me it's not an issue of who is the best but it brings excitement to a game which needs all the attention it can get.

Chinese top females frequently play with young males in team a (Xiang Peng, Yuan Licen, etc.) and it is said that Chen Meng has a good chance of winning.

Indeed, believe me, even chinese female TT players can give tough time to non chinese male TT players, China is ahead, Japan is almost the only Asian country to get closer, and Germany for now is the only non Asia country to face China at best, China is not wasting time, they dethroned Europe in the past and stayed on throne for decades.

I'm good with this type of matches. I think TT is all about skill, gender doesn't matter at all ( maybe i'm wrong idk) but in this sets, the female is with points ahead, i don't know why they have to do it like that. I wanted to see a match as you say, both of them at their highest but this type of things just makes me bored :(

My coach was from the Beijing team and was the trainer for Ma Long's cousin and Wang Chuqin's roommate, as well as the coach for the current female U14 champion China. He told me that in 2016, a similar match was played between Liu Shiwen and Ma Long, starting from 0:4. Liu Shiwen lost all the matches and barely got to 7 in most of them. We just watched this match together and he was extremely surprised at how far the women's team has progressed. Well done, Chen Meng!

Not just 2 points that favors Chen Meng. When it starts with 8-6, Chen needs 3 points to get to 11 while Fan needs 5 points. When it starts with 9-8, Chen needs 2 points and Fan needs 3 points. And considering this, even starting with 10-10 will favor you when you are competing with Fan, (although it won't change the result).

Women play close to the table and mostly backhand, defensively with less force like Harimoto so they have to play combination because they can play like that for a very long time but without a point. Ma Long currently plays closest to stylishly which is why he won with a woman and it's typically women's tennis. Fan Zendong and Xu Xin had easier stylish players, who play a lot with a strong forhend and in the second zone nevertheless did not win.
