I want to think this was just a troll article...I really REALLY hope it was. Because I'm more than happy to think I was trolled on this, because if I have to take this article seriously, there's no end to the problems I have with it. This is a tumblr post from Bikini Armor Battle Damage who argues that the customization in For Honor, while allowing for female and black customization in gender and skin respectively, is still not inclusive because the default look is white and male. Not only this but the armor choices for the women are too sexist and obviously have bad priorities. This...is a really cringe article.
Alright, here's hoping ya'll get something out of it, because I couldn't stand it.

I fell in love with warlord because of the way he fights and presents himself, I changed his skin color to match mine because I wanted to roleplay as this dude. there has NEVER been a moment where I said, "man its unfortunate that warlord is canonically a white dude. if only he was brown then I would love to play as him". no, what ran through my head as I was playing for honor, was the thought of holding down a point. the thrill of defending an area to the last man, and having a hail of warriors rain upon me with there weapons as their will, and their conviction as their armor. all of that racing to C point. if Ubisoft never added the change skin feature I would not have cared because warlord is a beast. (and many other warriors as well, but warlord is my fav.)
That is how I felt my first time picking up lawbringer
Exactly. Your Warlord is meant to be your creation, make him however you want
Same thing for me with orochi. I love that she has both gender options but im not really going to cry that some are gender locked. Like sure it sucks and would be nice to have a female option for like musha and kyo but im not going to make some dumb blog post about it. People are insane
@@asterodon I wish all characters had gender options just for the purpose of customization
@@subterraneandirtybomb i can agree with that but im not going to go crying about it on the internet, yknow?
Like if they added it, awesome, we love representation and more player expression, if not then oh well, not a big deal. Its crazy that we have what we have and the game is nearly five years old now. I honestly couldnt ask for a better game/community.

Anti-racism is no more than racism for the hypocrites.
Same with anti-sexist or feminists that strive for equality turn out to be the most misandrist, male hating people ever. Let’s be honest, this generation is filled with insecure people that their actions go against their intentions. Feminists strive for equality yet they wish the eradication of males. Black Lives Matter movement wanted equality to all races yet they want to demonise all white men, even if they haven’t done anything. And all these trans and non-binaries strive to be included and a part of society, yet they push anyone away for being slightly ignorant, even if they are just polite.
If 20 years goes by and this is a problem, then we need WW3 to happen to get rid of this tripe!

I honestly think for honor is the gold standard for unsexualised (hope that's a word) female characters, it doesn't overemphasize the female aspect of any characters, how anyone could have a problem with this goes beyond any kind of politics it's just willful ignorance
I think it’s non-sexualized but it’s basically the same thing
Yeah, they do just enough to notice they're gals but not sexualizing them at all (or barely) idk how anyone gets mad at that
Agreed. While some female characters are way too buff (considering steroids don't exist) it's still very well done.
@@GalahadTheSeeker well everyone or almost is body builder level buff in for honor anyway
@@sapateirovalentin348 Yeah but males aren't buff beyond reason. Like, that level of fitness is doable for dudes. Not for gals (without roids). Have you seen Valk's arms? God dayum.
I love how he just tears this dude's argument apart atom by atom it's very satisfying.
I can be quite merciless at times. Particularly when Tumblr’s involved. Hahaha
When they were making the WL/Valk comparison, I had one simple thought in my mind:
"Warlord is a heavy, why shouldn't he be built like a brick shithouse? And Valk is a Heavy/assassin hybrid, her armor is tough but still needs to be somewhat light to give her the mobility"
And she is also built like a brick shithouse too, it really doesn’t make any sense mate
Oh! And on top of that? If they actually took a step back they could of realised that Valk is a scout, Warlord is a frontline commander of sorts. Both do important jobs, both are badass. The tunblrtard is just looking for any excuse at all despite For Honor having solid armour designs for both male and female
Valk isn't really a small woman. She kinda like oh idk a Valkyrie! Pretty sure they're considered some of the fiercest Vikings
Hold up, you're using logic. That isn't allowed online!
@@demonwolf570 None of this makes sense mate, Valk is hella awesome, she got the muscles while still reminding everyone that hey, she’s a woman too
I see a lot of cool theroies on why the for honor warriors can have different skin tones, so here’s my theory: The landmass of heathmoor might have had immigrants that came from an African-like continent or culture, that moved to heathmoor (similar to the wu lin). However, due to them being surrounded by other cultures, the immigrants would eventually be assimilated with the continents other cultures, and knowlage of the African civilization would fade, with the immigrants and their descendents having children with heathmoors natives. These descendants would instead end up identifying as part of the knights vikings or samurai. And, due to the fact that heathmoor is in a constant state of war, Im PRETTY sure that armies wouldn’t care about your skin tone if you could weild a weapon well enough to be a soldier.
That's actually a pretty good theory
I bet the knights don’t really care as long as they get more soldiers in their rank, though the vikings are usually pale-skinned, I can see them converting captured immigrant knights or travelers into their armies.
For the samurai, I’m not really sure, but it’s plausible, if the immigrants manage to survive the poisonous swamp and are willing to assimilate into Japanese culture I can see that happening.
I’m headcannoning that gryphon assimilated so hard his skin can change
@@LegiamasC-OnTwitta lmao
Nah it's probably to avoid sjw stuff like this all the while staying faithful to their origins.
It's funny that they try to make the point that Valkyrie isn't allowed to speak when she's one of the most vocal characters when it comes to executions.
Honestly, the fact they allow black skin Knights, Samurai or Vikings, implies that there are black or darker skinned individuals that exist in Ashfeld, the Myre and even Valkenheim.
As someone who plays against Bots from time to time, I've noticed that some Heroes will take distinct skin colors depending on the Hero. The Gladiators definitely comes to mind with having Darker Tones, and I've once seen a Shugoki with Tannish Brown Skin.
Considering the world was apparenrly turned physically inside out and smashed together again, I wouldn't be surprised to see this occur. Perhaps darker toned survivors flocked to these places from worse areas and just became intigrated as the new factions arose
Black samurai did exist with Yasuke serving under the daimyo Oda Nobunaga if that history is right a black kensei or orochi in for honor is as historical just extremely rare
@@CrazyGamebino same with some knights and Vikings. Some viming dressed up captured slaves in armor and forced them to fight as meat shields and sometimes if they fought well enough earned some respect.

I noticed i.mediatly. even though shes strong. That body is pretty hot.

Funny enough, isn't the default gender for Orochi Female, now?
Same with the Warden.
Warden, Berzerker and Orochi are female by default, I think they were since the beginning of the game
I think it was set that whatever you used before the change is considered "default" in your menu's.
My Default Female Heroes (outside of Gender Lock), were Warden, Berserker, Jormungandr, Orochi, and Hitokiri. With the Gender-Locked Females we get Peacekeeper, Warmonger, Valkyrie, Shaman, Nobushi, and Nuxia. A total of 11 Female Heroes by Default.
Not only that, we have 13 Total of Heroes with customized gender, out of the currently 29.

I'm confused by this "Default and Deviation" thing.
So, to use an example I'm sure is near to all our hearts, when you reach the unmodded character creator for Skyrim, the first thing presented to you is a male Nord. So although you can switch to another race, skin color, and gender with just one click of a button and design your ideal fantasy character, it's bad that the male Nord is the first option you see? Am I understanding this correctly?
That is essentially what that argument is, it’s ridiculous in my opinion but I assume they’re offended that the default is a “default white male”
The default she was speaking about isn't really about a character generator, it's about how creators go about making characters in literature, movies, cartoons, series, etc. At least in my experience, it's bad enough that various critics raise questions when, say, protagonist is female. So making a character anything other than male of same culture and race than the author has to be justified, has to have some special purpose.
The actual "Default and Deviation" point is usually present in cartoons where a non-human character with no gendered traits is assumed and presented as being the male and the exact same character with long hair, eyelashes, or lipstick is female. This article is all over the place but the point they were trying to make is that raider is a male and you can make raider a female by slapping boobs on him. They clearly don't understand what they're talking about so that point should just be disregarded.
they're basically saying it wasn't a strong Nord woman on strong Nord crack in the beginning so it's sexist
One exercise I like to practice is just to directly ask these people what type of design/outcome they'd be happy with. Make them actually define their ideal, and it's easy to see that, being negationists, they have no ideals. They only know how to tear things down.
I love how raven leaves in his mess ups, and how he catches himself. I think I might use that myself if I ever get in an argument
I personally play Conq because I find the 'Redeemed Prisoner' archetype pretty fun. I also really like the flail (even though I think a Mace would be better) as a weapon, and the executions are brutal like a Murderer would be (as most are convicted Prisoners, usually Murderers).
I don't care what skin tone he is, or even if the default was female (I would certainly have questions, and possibly criticize historical accuracy, but considering the Flail was basically untouched irl, such criticisms would be useless). I personally see the way they are right now as pretty fair and reasonable, allowing male and female of multiple skin tones (as others have pointed out, the continents pretty much played Red Rover and mashed into one another so mixing of skin would likely occur), and people do know that there's more than a single Warden, Warlord, Raider, ect. This isn't Overwatch wherw there's individuals who look a certain way canonically. There's probably thousands, each unique, and so that allows you to create your own and say 'yeah, he/she was there'.
Am I the only female who is proud of their gender and aspects but plays a male to keep it historically accurate
Great, how many rants have I heard today: There's Shadiversity Rant, Metatron Italian Rant, and now Raven Rant.
I just want to say, me personally I lack creativity and so I play with my heroes with most of their Default stuff.
Default Armor, Default Patterns, and Default Sex.
And going back to when the game release with the OG 12 Heroes
Warden, Berzerker and Orochi are female by default.
And if we talk about the newer heroes, Shaman is Female only and Hitokiri and Jorm are also Female by default.
Oh and I wouldn't exactly call the Default skin color "White"
It's more like a "Tan" color, while the actual white it's more like Pale
The Default skin color is one you see a lot in mediterranean people and the Canary Islands, I guess the palest one is normal in northen Europe? Gotta say tho, to me it almost makes characters look like corpses

I am asian, but I don't play the samurai because i am asian, i am just fascinated by their history and their culture and their language.
9:30 The nipple part is that the armor is made from different pieces and the converging point is done as a tip because making leather round is pain and not worth it for non ceremonial armor. So this converging point is miss judged as nipple.
I mean even clothing have stitching, some people just want to yell and feel good about themselves for beating the “bad men”
Hunter-S: Ahh yes cause a Character that is suppose to be a hybrid of an Assassin and a Heavy should be walking around in fully studded leather garbs that covers her form so she can't be agile at all on the field. I might be wrong here but that doesn't sound like something that happened back then although I could be wrong.. I'm maining just saying this to solidify that For honor doesn't have to be extremely historically accurate {I haven't played the game all that much after the beta but in the trailers I'm pretty sure that was the theme right?...
Ah yes. I can't believe my Samurai vs European Knights vs Vikings brawler isn't historically accurate.

Just found the channel, loved the vid!
Actually, the real reason many characters like valkry and nobushi have masks and all the men have beards to cover their faces is that the developers didn't want to mess around with face rigs. Having something to cover their face means you don't need to bother doing that. We are all aware of the uncanny maskless expressions. I think that's one big reason why all the default classes and default armors had face coverings or beards. I might be wrong but as an aspiring game designer I can say that doing this would make the game a lot easier to develop and release on time.
Wait so there’s boobs under armour? Damn, not only can I no longer play this inaccurate game, I can’t even look at real world clothing the same way
But also like mosquitoes they're main value in the ecosystem is to feed other things. In this case its my insatiable thirst for Raven Knight videos
15:28 'The default For Honor hero is a white skinned man'

You know it's gonna be eye-rolling when the writer cites Lindsey Ellis.
i would also like to add that the valkyrie is supposed to be an agile warrior contrary to Warlord which is a heavier character. I havent played much of For Honor but i think the difference is between a heavy and well defended defender is supposed to be and feel heavy while the agile Valkyrie is supposed to look and feel light...
i really historical accuracy, and also appreciate that you can choose whatever race your character is.
7:00 "Legendary"
Regarding Nobushi. Is that Tumblrite aware of the fact that Nobushi and Shugoki are literally two different classes of heroes? Nobushi is a Hybrid while Shugoki is a Heavy.
Wanna know what other Samurai Hybrid wears little to no armor? Aramusha. Which is also male genderlocked, so her point is moot.
Regarding the Raider point: I kinda dislike the fact that the Raider has little to no chest protection save for a harness and some rings, so my Raider rocks that butcher's apron which isn't exactly great but it's better than nothing. My Raider is male btw.
Something that really pisses me off: Why the hell that Tumblrette keeps comparing Hybrid classes, that have wild varieties in the amount of armor they come with, to Heavies which are usually way more armored as per their class design????
"The problem with this is if you look at everything For Honor pitches at the world it promotes that the default hero in this game is a light skinned man in a world of light skinned men with a few light skinned women". So by this logic Appolyon is just one of the "few light skinned women"? You know, that badass warmonger that, after getting sneak-attacked by a Peacekeeper, she casually pulls out the PK's dagger out of her waist and then gives that PK a position in the Blackstone Legion? Hell that scene is even referenced in the Warmonger's default Signature.
Valkyrie's default armour is _"showing off her legs?"_ *_SHE'S JUST WEARING NORMAL DAMN PANTS_*
In all seriousness though, I imagine a lot of these pieces are made just to make people click on them, whether through delusion or anger and disbelief, to drive up clicks or views. Not all of them, but probably many.
At least that's what I tell myself to stay sane.
for honor is very tame in that area i would argue some woke approved games are by their logic more sexist than for honor
Could he just not google the heroes names and what they mean? I mean thats the first thing I did when I played :/
I think the breakdown of the Viking with the point of "The face mask covers her mouth silencing her" is ALL you need to know to not give a single damn what this person says.
You have to be next-level neurotic to glean that from something like a freaking helmet.
I hate seeing stuff like that. It's kinda sad because it's something we ALL do, we see something...make a loose connection, then run with it like it's the truth. The difference is, most people do that as a form of humor. We joke about it.
These kinds of people take that thought VERY seriously. Not only is it a possibility, it's somehow the only logical answer to them. The intention MUST have been to sleight them (or some group of people labeled as "marginalized") personally.
For Honor universe is set after a suppose global cataclysmic event. As far as we know, Heathmoor could be a super continent (like Pangea), which would explain the oil, or whatever the frick was that black liquid, earthquakes, lava pits, tsunamis and some areas being now dry, in one of the trailers of the game. The reason the Samurai (Empire of Dawn) are in the Myre, instead of Japan, is because THE ISLAND OF JAPAN, LITERALLY SINK.
So, realistically and in game speaking, it make sense there are female/black warriors in the knight and samurai factions, because there isn't enough population to afford racism.
Vikings comes from "the sea" aka, who the frick knows, so it's likely the brought slaves from other surviving areas of the world.

when i stoped playing this game it had an option on most characters to choose gender male or female, a few weeks ago i played a couple of rounds because of a friend, now they have feat 1 and 2 to choose from, i think that says alot about their priorities not to mention the latest samurai character who have one feat but as much as my friends told me about its a male of female based on what headgear you wear?! Honestly it makes no sense to complain about changing your gender or skin color like I personally make all my chapters white and male because I am white and male and Like to think I'm in the chacters shoes, so if you want to make all your chacters female and black go ahead it's your chacter
When I picked up For Honor, none of this even crossed my mind. I just chose a character I thought was cool and played the game
You know, with how much whining I heard from that post, I expected them to say something about Shugoki and how he is a male lock hero. Huh, looks like they made their argument looking at the trailer and maybe a few CZcams videos.
Hey bud, good video but I'd check up on that line around 21:14 "why are they cis, you mean the characters can't be homosexual?" Because just in case you don't know (I'm assuming that was just a mistake you missed in editing) being cisgender had nothing to do with sexuality
If this guy doesn't like the default armor just change it lmao
I wish this guy was my English teacher and my for honor teacher at the same time
Oh boy.. I cam only imagine what she would say about warmonger or Apollyon. Females being portrayed as villains.
"OMG, it gives men an excuse to put down a woman and assert more patriarchy!"
Next time somebody beat my Warmonger i am going to accuse them of sexism.
The pants issue if I was going into a close quarters combat I’d want tight pants even clothing skin tight cause baggy clothes are a target
I know this has nothing to do with the topic of the video, but what the hell even is your character-thing? He has a knight's faceplate, gauntlets and mail, and a longsword but the rest of his armor is Japanese, and despite the fact that most of his armor is a shiny red, he has spikes protruding from his back and a large ornament adorning his head, he still has camo paint on one of his chest plates and part of his faceplate.
He is an amalgamation of Japanese and Knight armor since I have degrees in Japanese culture and history as well as historical degrees in Medieval history, so it mixes the two.
