Hey @DanDan TheFireman I have a question that no one seems to talk about any where else. So I have a 15 Harley 48. When I come around a bend making a slight right turn at about 15mph for some odd reason the front tire seems like it lightly slips and cause me to lean back up to prevent it slipping more. My lean is no where near to much since it’s more of a turn like u would do in a culdesac if that makes sense. There’s no oil in that same spot nor is there any debris either. Curious as to what are things that can cause this. Thanks

You don't want to get dehydrated to and chance loosing consciousness or brain fog. I'm in Florida and wear a nylon mesh Joe Rocket jacket all the time. I think it probably feels hotter here than Arizona because of the humidity. You sweat more noticeably but you loose water just as much in dry climates without noticing. You are soaked in 2 minutes outside in 89 degree and 90 % humidity even in shorts and a tee. Imagine in bike gear. Drink sports drinks because they have "lectrolites" (an Idiocracy movie reference). I'm jealous of the roads you have to ride on out there, awesome scenery but I don't like the dusty sandy shoulders, not good traction if you have to go off a little, well, I guess grass isn't either come to think of it.

If it’s too hot, don’t ride. At the start of the year (down in Australia), I had my first heat exhaustion on a bike. The temperature was 46*C/115*F and was midway through a three week ride with the intention of keeping my itineraries mainly because of catching with loved ones. The trip wasn’t cancelled, but completely changed due to the heat.

And yet, they still have all their parts... ATGATT is an Internet meme and has never been representative of riders in general. For example, wearing full gear in a ride across the South in August on top of a hot engine is asking for heat stroke. How's that for safety? And getting in full gear to go a mile down the road to get something from the corner store is silly.

Good guide. One word HYDRATE! Now, let me share my .02c with YOU. Never ride with only the throttle hand on the bike. Bad idea. I did that and it almost ended badly. I hit a pothole and it threw me back- forcing my throttle hand to twist. I was only holding on with my right hand. My left hand could not reach back to pull in the clutch or reach the other grip because I was out of position. I was going along for the ride. It all happened quickly. Fortunately I recovered but it was close.
I rode for 25 years. I was more lucky than good but had not serious accidents in that time- not a scratch really. I had several very close calls- some could have proven fatal- but luck intervened. Much better rider (friends) than me were not as lucky. I always found it was not the obvious things that almost got me. Very unexpected things that happened fast.

On longer trips or in extreme heat definitely make sure you take breaks, too. Watch yourself or riding partners for signs of heat exhaustion and get inside out of the sun and rehydrate. It's much more difficult to focus and ride safely when you're getting dizzy and lightheaded from the heat

Picked up my first bike after years of pondering last week! I always wanted one but it was never a realistic option for me. Now I can realistically buy one and keep it on the road for the first time. Your videos have, by far, helped me the most. Simple little things that I only need to think about for a second before I almost hear your voice in my head reminding me the right course of action. 😂 It's made it very easy to break the rust off my clutch control and whatnot. Made it very easy for me to get through the initial "nervousness" of riding. (I rode dirt bikes, quads, snowmobiles, small trail bikes as a kid and mopeds as a teenager, but never a motorcycle.)
Bought a mint 1983 GS750 with only 8,200 original miles and she rips. If I'm ever down that way I'd love to ride with ya!

MY summer gear is Icon Konflict mesh jacket with D30 replacement spine and elbow armor and original shoulder armor. I wanted a green jacket to match my motorcycle and this was the best one I found for summer in that color. My pants are REAX Alta mesh pants with D30 replacement D30 hip and knee armor. Joe Rocket perforated gloves that have air vents built in on top facing forward to funnel airflow down the back of the hand. Cortech air boots for airflow. HJC i-10 Taze helmet with three separate intake vents as well as an outlet vent at the rear. It's a new inexpensive helmet but is SNELL 2020 rated and saved me in my crash last Saturday when the side of my head hit the ground and then the back of my head hit the curb. My motorcycle was totalled but I sustained no injuries because I was wearing this full gear even in the Texas heat. ATGATT guys!

The thing with water and cooling is a phenomenon called "evaporative cooling." Sweating is a great example of it. We use this in everyday applications to cool things, be it machinery or home applications. A swamp cooler for example. When air blows past water, a little bit of heat energy is absorbed by the water that allows it to evaporate. That transfer of energy also takes place with the other droplets of water which, as a result, cools the surrounding water. If we're talking about sweat, you get cooled. Water is your friend!
I'm new to this channel and I'm hooked. I loved the messages you're spreading. Keep it up!

From personal experience: Alpinestars makes some really well ventilated riding shoes that protect up over the ankle. They're somewhere between high-top shoe and low cut boot height and have enough ventilation that if it's below 65 out, my toes get cold. You can feel the air going around your feet in them. I use the SP1v2 riding shoes. They go on pretty quickly and easily with the center pull speed lacing and a velcro top closure

When I lived in Phoenix, I’d fill up my Camelbak bladder about 1/3 to 1/2 way, and freeze it overnight. Fill it up the rest of the way pre-ride, and stuff it in the front of my mesh jacket. Worked super well to keep me cool, and the ice would melt enough during the ride so that I’d always have something to drink.

I use an Areostitch suit, and there is enormous pocket vent near the top back which can hold many scoops of ice. When the ice melts it stays on the outside of the suit.
I estimate you get about 4 hours of near complete immunity from 100 degree weather. That means no sweating whatsoever, and you also don't get wet from the melting ice, and you close all vents to keep the cold air inside.

This is a great topic. Over time I have filled out my gear closet to match the seasons where I am. For late Fall and through Winter I wear a neck gaiter, non-perf leather jacket and pants, with liners and sometimes merino wool layers, klim leather palmed goretex gloves and unvented boots. For Spring, early Summer, and early Fall, I wear perforated leather jacket and pants, or my riding jeans (sometimes still need the liners and neck gaiter), with my gloves varying between my winter goretex and perfed shorties. Boots will also vary between vented and non-vented. Then for Summer I rock mesh textile jacket and pants, with the perfed shorty gloves, and vented boots. Where I live I have the benefit of being able to lane split, so I at least have constant airflow, but it can still be really hot in-between cars during the Summer.
Bonus gear I have an Olympia Horizon rain suit (excellent product, highly recommend), and 1pc perfed kangaroo leathers with perfed sportbike boots for trackdays.

Great video, I struggle with what to wear on my dirt bike in the Alabama summer. I always ride with helmet boots and knee braces. But I'll wear sunglasses instead of full dirt bike goggles. Shorts over my knee braces. Roost deflector with no shirt. It's weird when I go riding nowadays. I ride in the Winter when it's in the teens, wearing summer gear and layers underneath.
People: "It's too damn cold to be out in these elements. You're going to freeze to death!"
    Me: "....Okay...."
I ride in the Summer when it's nearing triple digits.
People: "It's too damn hot to be wearing all the gear. You're defeating the purpose of riding and you're going to overheat."
    Me "....Okay...."
So, no matter what, in the state of Indiana, you shouldn't ride with full gear according to the general populace. I love being a rebel!

I have perforated leather jacket and gloves, along with Kevlar lined jeans, but I'm definitely looking into those pants you're wearing, I want to get one of those flannel looking jackets and a summer mesh jacket. I'm in Tokyo Japan, winter gets down to about 40F(5C) with a nice dry 40% humidity, and the summers see Temps up to 100F(40C)and 100%humidity. My biggest summer threat is my to my phone, if I'm using it for GPS in the sun. My phone in 2019 over heated and I had to pop it into the ice-cream freezer at a gas station for a few minutes to cool it back down.

Average temperature was between 95-110 and I wore a padded mesh jacket…and long sleeve compression shirt…Levi’s and full helmet. Between San Diego and Saint George I would ride for about 90 minutes - stop at a rest stop…cool off…drink lots of water and Gatorade and fruit. It was hot but I made it!

This jacket was perfect for summer but unfortunately i went down in a low side, and the arm area twisted as I went down; pushing the mesh in contact with the pavement, which didn't hold up well ( 35mph). But everything else held up perfectly. I would get a mesh jacket that it a bit more tougher to get that for sure protection. I have the pictures of the crash if interested in seeing it.

Tuscon is so lovely in the summer compared to Phoenix (sarcasm). The hottest summer in Phoenix was in 2014. I wore all my gear the day it was 121° when I roade to Motorcycle Mechanics Institute back when it was on Deer Valley Road. It was like riding in a blow dryer. I brought an entire change of clothes with me, and I'm glad I did. It wasn't the most fun thing I've ever done, but it makes for a cool story. The coldest I've ever ridden in was in Texas. 19° at night. That had me wishing for that Phoenix summer. It's still worth it to wear all your gear no matter the weather conditions. 🤘🏼

I find that cooling specific long underwear works really well. Stationary on the bike is not awesome but at any any speed you cool down quick. Lots of water. Great vid. I love my gear and never ride without it. It is my solace and my protector and allows me to relax and put all energy into riding and situational awareness. Safety involves a little sacrifice. I wish I was able to ride in jeans and a t shirt or light jacket and high tops. I can't. I have been through too much and seen too much to ever allow that again. Take care everyone and be safe! My brother was a motorcycle instructor. He drilled into me. Boots, jeans, jacket, gloves, every time I get on the bike. Saved my arse, the time I did come off. Yet I still lost skin on my hands& elbows with full leathers on. I can imagine how bad my injuries would’ve been without my gear on. I see riders in our sunny state (Western Australia) in nothing but shorts, T-shirt, & thongs! All the time. When I pull up next to them at the lights, I always say. “You havnt come off yet have you” I don’t care how hot it is. You might sweat when stationary, but the breeze cools you down, when you get moving again.

As long as you're not sitting in traffic for long periods of time, it's not too bad. Astronauts have a liquid cooling system that runs cold water through small tubes in an under garment. There's been a few times I would've appreciated something like that.

Icon Sanctuary (yellow), technical long sleeve t-shirt and cotton light long-sleeve T under. Why? Because I stay dry but the cotton does not... and with every move, even a 5 meter 'jump', it cools me down as the air passes thru the moist fabric.
LS2 Valiant helmet (white) - it has a flipover chin so I can move it away when stationary and flip it back down when I get going above, say, 20 mph.

Try to find a light grey or beige jacket. It's _way_ cooler in southern AZ sun. I rode to CA/OR/NV a couple years ago in June when it hit unseasonably warm temperatures. I saw 125+ going between AZ and CA. Had a waste-mounted Camelback with me. My jacket and pants both had massive mesh panels that I of course had wide open and my Shoei RF-1200 vents pretty well. It was hot enough that you did NOT want your shield open. It was bearable, but I don't advise it.

Very good video. I live in South Texas where it's very hot and humid, something you don't have in Tucson (humidity). Here is my issue: in 1980 I had a heat stroke. One of my residuals is that I barely sweat! For me, when I become overheated it is extremely difficult for me to cool down. Wearing full gear, even ventilated full gear, drives my body temperature up to very high levels. That is quite dangerous as I do not want to endure another heat stroke! It becomes a balancing act for me: how much gear vs how much heat can my body tolerate. From the months of May-October I try to do most of my riding earlier in the day and be done by 1:00 or so. That doesn't bode well for doing any significant distance riding. I have been a police officer, a military medic and nurse, and I have picked up more than my share of injured motorcyclists off the pavement. I too have been involved in one high speed crash where I was "peeled like a potato" when a semi ran me off the road at 65 mph on rocks as big as your fist on a 100+ degree day. What are your thoughts????

For winter you NEED good winter gloves . Or/and hand guards / handwarmers / a hand-hood on your motorcycle. Your fingers (especialy cluch fingers) are getting blasted by wind more then any other part of your body (nothing is slowing the wind to your clutch fingers)AND they have the poorest circulation out of everything which means they go numb quite fast. I rode in winter in spring gear by layering clothes and everything but my god dam fingers was comfortable --even in thick winter gloves (only winter gear i bought). Winter gloves would extend my riding from 30 mins to an hour because: leather fingers of the gloves would freeze then the insulation freezes then my fingers would go numb . My knuckles were fine though
