What is your favourite product to make with stearic acid?
Soaps, lotion and candles
Lotion
Creams
Lotion, so far 😁
I need some advice regarding a formula that I am trying to make with stearic acid...is there an e-mail in which I could mail you?
2-3% of stearic acid will keep any kind of butter from melting. I use it at 3% and never looked back. If you are using cocoa butter or kokum butter you only need about 2% unless you want super firm body butter (like a treatment butter).
Definitely going to try that in my body butters when the weather warms up. 😀
Thank you so much for sharing! I don't get a ton of opportunities to test formulations in hot weather in my part of Canada ❤️
Tessie Stearic acid doesn’t make your butter hard?
Does the added stearic acid help to prevent grains from forming? I love carrying my butter with me around so with the temp changes, grains form 👎😞.
@@atarbuck3452 if you add too much it will. Never go over 3% and use 1% if you are using hard butters.
My motto in life is that it is always a good day when I learn something. Thank you.
I love these deep dive videos. I always go to your blog whenever I need subs or a breakdown of an ingredient. Thank you for all that you do.
Love these deep dives! Sharing so much knowledge 🙏🏼💖
Thank you so much Marie!!!
You’re from Calgary !! I’m from Calgary I’ve been watching you for weeks now and had no clue. Keep up the great work. Learning a lot by watching videos as I own my own skincare company.
Thank you, Humblebee, very informative.👍🏽👍🏽
you are so GOOD at this- the formulas, education and making polished videos.
Thank you for all the great information you share with us ❤
Phenomenal educational instruction. Exceptional teaching video presentation. Mucho Gracias

I am loving these ingredient deep dives!
me too
Very Helpful video. Thanks!
Thank you humble beeandme..your videos are so educative
. Thank you
Thanks for sharing the stearic acid details. I bought some a while back, but afraid to try it in soaps. Now it's on, next batch is going to be stearic acid included. Can't wait to try it, so thank you again for the help I needed. 😍 😍
Thank you Humblebee , very informative 👍👍
Love these deep dives!! They have been amazing! Thank you for sharing!!
I have been getting into various gelling and stabilising agents and have come across Sepinov EMT 10, it’s amazing at light emulsification and amazing stability! I was wondering if you have ever used it? If you have, do you have any formulating recommendations for lotions or gel creams?
I love those ingredients videos!!
Watching this was perfect timing for me. I have a creamy body oil that I formulated and used Lipidthix to thicken the oils. A bit pricey, but the end result was perfect. I always have stearic acid on hand and it's more bang for my buck compared to Lipidthix. I tried it with my formulation and it turned out just as perfect. Once again, thank you for the extremely helpful information 👍
Thank you so much, Marie! You have given me so much appreciation and inspiration to use Stearic acid!
That is exactly what I was going for! Happy making ❤️
I loooove those series so much😍😍You are amazing!!! I woud really love if you can make a video for every type of emulsifying wax (nonionic, anionic,ionic..). And for what are they used for. I do have difriend kinds and dont know for what i can use them and for what i cant . For allot of people this is really confusing and i know that you can explain it the best ❤.
wooooOwww great great great as always, Thank you so much ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I was just thinking that I'm possibly not appreciating this one enough.... and here we are - deep dive! Thank you :)
You're so welcome!
Love you Marie. You’re brilliant. Thank you for sharing your smarts. ❤️🙏🏻🌎👍💕
❤️ Thanks for watching!
Thank You!
I love your deep dives so interesting 🤩🤩🤩
Very Helpful, Thank You :)
Great video ❤
Thank you so much for this very informative video❤
You are so welcome! ❤️
I recently added stearic acid to my favorite lotion formula (very basic) and I love it.
Hooray!
I use it in my Lotion formula
Thanks so much with the info! I love stearic acid and the lovely thickening it provides. One hurdle I’m facing with my emulsifies body butter formulations is soaping effect when rubbing the cream in. I’m going bonkers trying to solve the problem because I don’t think it’s esthetically pleasing. Is stearic acid the culprit? I’ve tried the HLB calculators and my formulations don’t balance. Any advice would be amazing! Thx and I love your content! 😀
I actually found stearic acid at a local herbal apothecary, which was cool as I needed some quick!
Thank you so very much, Marie. I love stearic acid too. It is great in my body polish. Love from Pretoria, South Africa.
I’m in Pretoria too! At what percentage do you use it? With what combination butters?
@@joy5016 I use Cocoa and Shea butters and stearic acid at 4%.
@@firdowskruger9896 Thanks for responding!
and does 4% keeps it stable in the summer as well? I just used it at 3% with mafura and mango butter and 2% Cetyl alcohol. Beautiful and silky. Wish it was summer so I see how it behaves. But will try 4% and see
@@firdowskruger9896 do you use it with emulsifying wax or just stearic acid alone?
Very informative
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so informed is there a face cream you make with stearic acid
I use stearic acid for body butter. I recently discovered Glyceryl dibehenate and thus got the opportunity to turn any oil into butter. The feeling on the skin is perfect.
Are you saying that you only use oil with stearin acid?
@@joy5016 no. Cetyi alcohol or emulsan II and stearic acid.
Great video, thanks! Does Stearic Acid at 2% have a soaping effect? Or could it be something else? The video does not show soaping even at much higher percentages. Thanks!
Who you recommend it for thickening a liquid lip pigment?
Yesss! This video came right on time 😊 I’m looking to formulate a lotion bar with stearin acid! Does anyone know palm free steric acid suppliers for US?
I don't know of any, but googling "palm free stearic acid USA" is probably a good place to start :) You can also look for RSPO stearic acid. Happy making!
hi
Is there any book or PDF of your favorite formula available in the market?
Interesting! I use stearic acid in my soaps all the time and it makes my soap stay longer and makes it feel more solid
Hey! Do you mind sharing the percentage and how to account for it in cp soaps.
Thanks.
@@nidhikothari Sure! I do about 5-7% and I add it right on top of my butters/hard oils that need to be double boiled.
Does it shorten the curing time for your soaps?
@@Stratsfinest that's a good question!
Guys, do you know if it’s possible to make wax soft without oil??
Is it the same as the sand or the snow wax? Like Foton pearled wax..
Helo..your videos are too good❤..
I want to learn how to use L glutathaion powder in Face cream night cream r moustrisers etc..plzzzz rply soon😊
Hi, can I use any of your formular for face cream, is pH OK for face. Thanks
I love this! Do you find Stearic Acid ever leaves that "soapy" finish to face/hand creams, if used in improper amount?
Could you say what amount you used left soapy feel?
Thank you for making this video🙏🏽 can you talk about optiphen? I want to use a preservative for my body butters but I don’t know which preservative is right 😭
Thanks for watching! I have a pretty good amount of information about preservatives in the FAQ (www.humblebeeandme.com/faq/); I recommend checking it out :) Anhydrous body butters don't need preservatives, so if you aren't using water you don't need one at all. Happy making!
@@HumblebeeAndMe thank you! I’m really happy I found your channel 🙏🏽
can you explain how to disperse it in water
My country is Sri Lanka. I am watching your channel. Can you please tell me how to make a cream that can be applied to the face?
What about Arrowroot for oil body butters?
How would you add Stearic acid and cetyl alcohol together in a emulsified body butter containing water? I’ve seen popular brand like raw sugar use Both, I’ve experimented and just can’t get that perfect consistency that I like I want it to be more slippery not waxy like, a product that doesn’t feel like it’s too heavy.
hello, is there a recipe for the one at 2:20 thank you
Can it be used to make lotion without any other additives?
Hi this is my first comment to your vide, i have a question, can i mix it olive oil like you did with sunflower oil coz i don't have sunflower oil but an olive oil.
I'm gonna try making my own stearic acid. I have some hydrogenated soybean oil, which is mostly made of stearic acid triglyceride, and I think I can separate out the fatty acids from the glycerin backbone.
How did it go?
@@mycelia2809 didn't work very well.
Petroleum jelly what is made of?
Hi, love your content! Question... can I use stearic acid in a facial moisturizer? I so, at what percentage? would 20% be OK?
That's a great big "it depends" :) There's nothing wrong with 20%, but whether or not it works for you/you like it will depend on everything else that's going on in the formulation. Try it and see ❤️
Can we use stearic acid in lipsticks
I’ve combed your site and I’m DESPERATELY trying to find a formulation that uses stearic acid and cetyl alcohol in a butter (anhydrous). It’s mentioned but maybe I’m overlooking it😩😩😩
Hi, how is triple pressed stearic acid different from "Just stearic acid"??? Does this alter the formulation in any way???? Please answer
I started mixing stearic acid 5% with the coconut oil as a carrier oil and put 4% fragrance oil what i have noticed with the hot weather in my country i saw that the mixture melted and became oily should i increase the stearic acid percentage to become solide ?
I need to make a a body butter with stearic acid and be able to decorate it with pipping bag
What percent l have tried and failed
l need it to be harder and easily melt on the skin l also what it not to be runny Please help
I know you had a video where you incorporate cetyl alcohol to stearic acid to make a cream recipe. Could you give a 2-3 ingredient cream with these ingredients pretty please.
Please share beeswax oil ratios
Hello, you are an angel, thanks for the video Marie. Can I ask you something? Can I use Stearic Acid for body butter made with only oils and butters? No water in the formula. Thank you ☺️
Of course! Several of the formulations I share in this video do that :)
@@HumblebeeAndMe I really appreciate your answer ❤️
Pls can u do more videos on facial oils for different skin problems..and serums oil based to be precise..pls
What is the difference between cetearyl alcohol and cetyl alcohol
Question: If anyone would be kind to answer (I know this is irrelevant, but) does anyone know what type of colorant I can use to color body oil? Mica falls to the bottom, and I'm sure I'll need some kind of oil soluble lake or dye but not sure which?
Please check out the body oil formulation I shared last summer :)
I would like to take an existing whipped body butter recipe and add Stearic Acid & Cetyl Alcohol to it to help keep it from melting as easily in the Texas heat. The recipe is about 44% butters (22% shea, 8% cocoa & 14% mango); 45% oils (8% jojoba, 22% coconut, 14% grapeseed & a squeeze of vitamin E); 8% arrowroot powder; 3% fragrance (assuming you count arrowroot & fragrance -I'm a newbie so I'm not sure). Should I use 2% or 3% (or more) of stearic acid? What about cetyl alcohol? Anyone know?
Hi Brandi! You have coco butter in formulation which is a hard butter so start with 2% Stearic Acid. Anhydrous butters need 3%max of Stearic Acid. You also may want to increase the butters phase and reduce the oils phase
I been trying so hard to get the 50 dollar plan on patreon but is totally sold out . is there any other way of talking to yo for 30 min really love the Chanel
A 1-on-1 slot on Patreon *just* opened up!
Can I use it to make leave in conditioner with emulsifying wax
I'd encourage you to start here instead: www.humblebeeandme.com/super-simple-creamy-hair-conditioner-3-ways/ :)
Can someone help me with these questions please? ❤️
Is it true that stearic acid clogs pores?
Is it true that stearic acid is good for dry skin, but does it irritate oily skin?
I appreciate your help ❤️
I also had about it...
How much do you recommend in the lotion base from hobby lobby?
I have never worked with anything from Hobby Lobby, but you aren't going to be able to incorporate steric acid into any finished lotion base. Stearic acid needs to be incorporated into the lotion before it is emulsified as an original part of the formulation.
I want to make an oil balm would I use steric acid in this product? I’m kind of playing with this recipe
You certainly could! Experiment :)
what ratio of steric acid and cetyl alcohol combination can be added to body butter
Any ratio your heart desires :)
Can I swap stearic acid instead of ewax? And does the silky ewax have stearic acid in it already?
No to first question, and check the INCI for the second :) Have you read up on both stearic acid and emulsifying wax NF in the Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia (www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia/)? They do dramatically different jobs in our formulations and once you learn more you will understand why they cannot be used for one another. Happy making!
Hii im from India I'm a natural cosmetologist i like ur all formulation very easy, to Lauren, i need ur bool how can i,purchase send me ur link
I used stearic acid once instead of ozeokerite because I want it natural. Does this actually makes sense?
It depends. Both will thicken/harden, but stearic is not as waxy.
halfway into the video I knew stearic acid was going to be the partner to my glycerol and peg 100 stearate. Thanks for confirming. However I just started using safflower oil straight for my aging eyelids 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Safflower oil is supposed to penetrate (due to its molecular weight). Do you know how the stearic acid will affect absorption of the oil? There is no doubt using the oil plain is messier than turning it into a butter.
Stearic acid tends to make things absorb more slowly; cetyl alcohol might be more up your alley :)
@@HumblebeeAndMe thank you. I'll search the blog for cetyl alcohol and if there isn't one hopefully you will be doing one soon. Thanks again.
Can it be used in shampoo
Yes, though I generally don't use it in shampoo.
Guys I know this is a weird question but is it possible to soften wax without oil??
I answered this the first time you asked.
Love the video, but I fat-thumbed dislike when hitting “like” so please disregard if CZcams sends a notification, I reversed the error. Thanks!
How to make solid perfume?
Does this formulation look right? I want an efficient deodorant that is properly solid and easy to apply that doesn't leave marks on the skin or clothes...
15% Shea/Mango Butter
15% Cocoa/Kokum Butter
15% Caprylic Oil
3% Zinc Ricinoleate
5-30% Magnesium Hydroxide
20% Stearic Acid
8-24% Corn Starch
1% Zinc Oxide
1% Geranium EO
0.5% Vanilla EO
0.5% Vitamin E
Is stearic acid a preservative?
No, not at all. You can trust that I would've mentioned such a thing in a 10+ minute deep dive video on an ingredient ❤️
Wait a minute....if our Shea butter, Cocoa butter, Mango butter etc. Already comes with Steric acid in it, then why on all the labels says "Pure shea Butter made from seeds" etc. Etc. ?🤔
Stearic acid naturally occurs in those ingredients the same way water naturally occurs in apples and oranges.
@@HumblebeeAndMe wow I learned something new today. And having known this, one needs to consider the amount of steric acid in each recipe. I wondered why using the same amount of steric and getting different results depending on how much Mango, Shea, cocoa butter I used. Thank you 😊 💙
I can’t figure it out….stearic acid makes my butters hard.
