Hi Kimberly, you added 2Tbs to 32 oz of cooking soap. My question is did you factor the steric acid into the original recipe or do you just add the tablespoons without including them in the recipe? I saw another soaper had asked what is the difference in SL and SA? Does one produce better results? Basicall, is one better to use than the other or does it depend on whether you're making CP or HP? Thank you for your help.

Stearic acid is used in both soap and candles. For soaping, I'd suggest making sure you have cosmetic grade stearic. I'm not sure the stuff they sell for candles is cosmeetic grade.

Cool, now I can make my hot process soaps harder. I had no idea how to add stearic acid to it with out having to dump it in while I am melting my coconut oil, cocoa butter, and shea butters.
    Very cool.

Another lye question because I didn't see your answer to previous ones: do you factor the 2 tbsp of steric acid into the soap calc recipe (which increases the lye content)? Wondering because I thought sap happens during that initial trace and cooking. ....?
THANK YOU for your wonderful videos!

Hi Kimberly, getting ready to start HP, I'm a bit intimidated. Watching all your videos, I understand that the fragrances go at the end once soap has cooked correct? But, what worries me is the flashpoint of the oils...I understand that you must let the soap cool down a bit before adding. What's the ideal temperature of the soap in order to add the oils/fragrance? I get that you must work fast as the soap does begin to harden...Thank you for all your wonderful advice! Dee.

Hey Kim; I just saw this video. Stearic acid is something I have not used in HP soap. I played on soalcalc and see it does change the lye - up .7 from what it was w/o. You must like the results of your soap using it, do you see the result of using it immediately or over the course of time (ie: they harden quicker or just get harder eventually?) Thanks as always for a great video and your help!

Hello Kim!...from Halifax,Yorkshire. in the UK. I hope you can advise me ...I still have a lot to learn! :o)
I made some lovely soap last month that wouldn't harden up at all. It was the same texture as vaseline at room temperature.
I am re-batching it today to see if it can be rescued and have just sprinkled stearic acid on the the top of the batch in the crockpot. It's the first time I've ever used stearic acid so do you think it will work? Will there be any further procedures to do before I'm able to use the soap should it firm up? ....By the way, I love watching your vids! Kind regards, from Susan x
