  • When we went to meet Santa we also took a walk around the Town of Kirkham on the Fylde Coast. It's a lovely little place, really well looked after with some good shops. Come and take a look. Filmed on Monday 7 December 2020.

Originally called Kirkham in Amounderness Kirkham is midway between Blackpool and Preston, adjacent to Wesham.
Apparently it originated because of Carr Hill on which it was built, and was once the location of a Roman fort. It's probably the earliest inhabited locality on the Fylde. The name is from the Danish 'kirk' (church) and Saxon 'ham' (settlement).
The town of Kirkham is listed in the Domesday Book of 1086. The Market Charter was granted in 1269-70 by King Henry III.

Kirkham isn't a place that we know an awful lot about, so this is a voyage of discovery for us too! We start our walk around the town near the millenium clock, looking at the main high street and taking a peek at the shops. There are numerous small towns and villages like Kirkham on the Fylde Coast - why don't you explore them too?

Thank you for posting. It was so nice to see the little town my ancestors came from before immigrating to Canada.

Every time I have been through Kirkham on the way to Blackpool I have decided to visit this lovely town but never acually did it. There is an antique shop not far from where this fim was centred and being more than antique myself I feel a home in those! I think of the way my late wife's grandfather spoke when I hear the name Wesham, he would speak of "Weshing the pots" in his South Yorkshire dialect.
The Book and Bean coffee shop would be on my itinerary too Jane. I hope you remembered to acquire the broom stail before you went home.I would visit both hardware shops and I associate linseed oil with those retailers. I have been cutting stencils out for someone to paint through and they have the distinctive putty fragrance. I have really enjoyed the visit to Kirkham and look forward to going in person. Thank you Jane!

I went to Kirkham Grammar School as well as living in Kirkham as an adult for a couple of years, great to see the place again. I echo another respondent in saying do more about the Fylde villages.

Wow; I haven’t been there in over 30 years, does seem to have changed some. Used to be a book shop on the side you’re walking on, also on the other side used to be a B and M Bargain; Where the white railings are, if you turn left and walk to the bottom there used to be a cinema. The last shop on market square used to be a record shop. The railway station is in the other direction.

Nice video - you should definitely do more from Kirkham, such as the church, railway station and grammar school. Have you featured Warton, Freckleton or Wrea Green? Or Weston, Singleton and Poulton?

10.5 million of public money 💰 for the improvements in kirkham in June 2021 , we had the Christmas light bulb fixed and a man's pants 👖 replaced because he ripped them on a bench 😳 I've been monitoring this town and it's councillors and its in decline.

There's also Kirkham and Wesham club day in June where all churches and local groups like scouts and brass bands do a parade. Train Station is on Station road that splits the two towns.

Spot on I olso live here, its not what it seems don't be fooled, and I noticed a few of the comments trying to promote certain shops, lol , it's a dump where the locals get very little support by the council, and no parking , I'm just stating a "few" facts
