I have never seen a finer ignition job than the one you did on this motor. You are good. As for the carb adjustments........... well, maybe not quite as good. Looks like you hunted around quite a bit. After initial settings and getting it started, run at WOT and get highest rpm from high speed adjustment. Cut to idle and get highest idle rpm from low speed adjustment without lean spit. Give it a minute and open 1/4 turn from where it barely does not lean spit. Go back to WOT and get highest rpm from high speed adjustment. Go back to idle and get highest rpm without lean spit from low rpm adjustment. Open 1/4 turn. Done (except for radical changes in weather). Thanks for such a great video from a great, legendary 1958 Johnson motor. You are a joy for us 2-stroke OMC guys. Mike "You're nothing in the world of outboards if you're not making smoke on the water".
I enjoyed this little project. You’ve saved a classic that was destined for the bin and brought that little Johnson back into some sunlight from its deep slumber in some dark corner of the garage. I wish you many smiles every time you pull that string 👍
Thats why I luv the 1950S motors run so nice the proof is right here and on many other videos across E-Bay including one of my own,LOL.!Nice job on this one.Great video!......Glenn
The early Glasspar hull design was terrific......faster than other comparable boats in the 1950 to 1980 era. The chines extended prominently forward and upward almost to the bow stem. The old Glasspars are really neat classics and all should be saved. Thank you for giving this little boat new life. Richard Browder, Tidewater Virginia, age 77
Honestly, thiers nothing more amazing than seeing old outboard motors. I remember getting an old motor from a guys shed. You can fix these forever. The only issue is when you have the ancient tampering bums that say "they don't make parts for these anymore" think of all the items people might have salvaged if they never came across that saying
Wow l so much enjoyed seeing that old motor running because it reminds of my childhood days when my late father owned one except it was a 35 HP. I was seven yrs old back then and we stayed in Kenya. The 35 was on a boat built by my dad with marine ply. The plans was out of Popular Mechanics magazine and it was called a Swish. I learned to water ski with that engine on the Swish. I am now 62 and still enjoy skiing.
So QooL Loving your channel Lotta help. You really know how and like handling a Johnson Just got my first. Pouring thru your vids. Some are too funny, I gotta stay focused
We had a Johnson 7.5 hp 1956 model Holiday Bronze and Tan . Had it on a Sears 12 foot ran wonderful. Noticed your throws a great prop flow. You might want to turn your fuel and idle back 1/2 a number. Will do a little more speed. They are great engines
Would have liked to see a shot of the boat going by. Maybe also going with another boat for perspective. How fast is it ? 1 person. Super neat to boot. Love the retro style!
Brandon, would you happen to have an OMC part number for that transom steering connector ? Converting from dual cables to single transom cable? Thanks.
Might I recommend the following restoration projects: Restore a 17/18 foot aluminum fish & ski boat (Starcraft or similiar) Restore one of those larger aluminum beasts ( 22ft Starcraft Islander/Chieftain)
If you wanted to... You could easily take this boat to Lake Havasu or some West Coast Marinas, and you could sell it as a dingy. I'm sure there would be some sailboat owners who would love it...
Here is brochure on 1956 Glasspar Superlite www.fiberglassics.com/forum/main-forum/103177-glasspar-1956-fleet-brochure.html Specs are on brochure 10 HP max, boat weighs 100 lbs.
I’ll be honest. I’m a little disappointed in the engine choice lol. I was hoping for something a lil better. On another note. You know what would be an awesome project for this ? A jet ski engine and jetdrive swap! Nothing crazy. That little boat rock!
Brandon's Garage 😱😱😱😱. Maybe disappointed was too harsh. Lol. If I’m being honest. I commented before I watched the entire video 😑 I was like I can’t believe he’s gonna use a trolling motor with a hand throttle and have to reach back with one hand and steer with the other. 😂. I was happy to see you actually went back and hooked the controls up. 😎. Actually moved pretty good ! Im waiting for this jet ski 👀
I came to the conclusion 50 years ago that outboards were made by the Japanese. They are the only ones who have small enough hands to get into those small areas to reach the nuts and bolts!

Mid 50s-mid 60s outboards are the best.. NIce work.

i just picked up a 1970 Flying V-175, getting ready to bring her back to life!
Really sweet little motor... 1958 is a year of which I am very fond.... lotsa great stuff from that year... water is beautiful and quite blue...

Cool little set up
Have someone fill me up from shore, it would be nice to see the whole boat in action at a distance. Rock on bro
You got that motor running great, can't believe how fast it gos!
Those little Glassbars are some damn good boats. I bet it's a rocket
Really cool video. Johnson and Evinrude should use this as an advertisement.
Johnson it out of business. This is also 62 year old outboard. Times have changed and the new Evinrudes are no longer reliable
Great job on the 10 hp Boat looks nice and sturdy too.
Nice job, boat and motor looked good

Would love to have a little boat like that

Nice! I don’t remember seeing it when you reinforced the transom, isn’t there usually a drain plug on those? Thanks!
That boat is awesome, I would have beefed up the transom even more and stuck a 65 hp on it. Perfect race boat LOL
Brandon, would you happen to have an OMC part number for that transom steering connector ? Converting from dual cables to single transom cable?
Thanks.
Looks great! Could use a windshield though👀
Nice boat I just picked up the same motor, what fuel mix ratio are you using. There so many people that are all over the place on what mix to use

Did you rebuild the boat and motor?
Of course
I’ll be honest. I’m a little disappointed in the engine choice lol. I was hoping for something a lil better. On another note. You know what would be an awesome project for this ? A jet ski engine and jetdrive swap! Nothing crazy. That little boat rock!
I wish I could post pictures in comments, I would post a picture of the ski I just picked up ;)
What do you find disappointing about the engine?
