- Making a house(ish) song from scratch in Ableton Live using mainly the Moog Grandmother. I'm also using NI Battery for drums and a few other synths like a Massive and FM8 for pads, etc.

Hey Can i please get the Acapella ?
We need a new link!
I absolutely love your singing style.
"everyone is blind just like my mother" jesus dude lmfao
😂
Just wanted to add that your video on production tips gave me many "simple" insights I wasn't able to notice before, so thanks a lot on that. Have a happy new year!
You know what, I’d say that was the best production I’ve seen this year 2021. Made sense how it was put together. I’m inspired to make something now! Thank Man
it looks so easy....you are very talented.
Happy New Year. Excited about what 2019 might bring from this channel
Happy New Year ! Thank you so much for making this awesome free content, you're the best !
Great sounds from the Grandma... Amazing song in one sitting... you are very creative!
I really love the vocal effects. Great work!
Love this synth! keep the Grandmother vids coming!
Great stuff, man!
The looping dancers were really hypnotic, and then those synths came tumbling alone at the end...come on!...so good!
Thanks for sharing.
Loved this song!
Amazing song
You really like stations
😂
I was perplexe at the begining but after hearing the full track it's awesome ; you totally nailed it XD very gret lyrics and great vocal effects !! Cheers, love and happy new year to you, full of music
GIVE US MORE!!!! UR GREAT!!!!!!!! LOVE IT

Happy New Year!
Make a Balkan Turbofolk track in the next video 😅
2nd that!
...the melody - I think he basically did that XD
@@mrcmarciniakify Think so? czcams.com/play/PL02xpkHsWqjjNcYpqjJPxAR0lf_v-mAW4.html
I have no idea what that is lol, but I'm intrigued cause I like Balkan music in general. I'll google some samples.
@@onceuponasynth Bosnian Horse Riding Techno for the win! I used to live near these projects that were all recent Bosnian Immigrants... they used to hang in the parking lot & play it from their cars!
It's a whole 'nother world! :P
So Dope!! Love your videos man. Much love X
Aw, yes! On your last video I talked about wanting to hear you play around with vocal processing a *bit* more and you fucking... nailed it. Damn. Blew me away. And your stream-of-consciousness lyrics are always inspiring to me. Seriously.
This one is my favourite one ❤️ :))
This is great, great stuff. I love the dark alter ego thing you do in all the lyrics. I laugh my ass off, and also identify.
Great vid...And this guy DOES NOT NEED A MIDI PACK..LOL! Well done again, fantastic stuff..👍😵😀
Hey can i ask you what treatment you used on the vocals for the chorus?
Vocoder+autotune???
Sounds good.
Happy New Year to everyone ☃️
This one is crazy ! congratz n happy new year !
Ps : I Love your youtube channel !
Your music-making is impressive. Thanks for all the videos you put out, they are really amazing. How did you start getting into creating music? You seem to have a really good idea of many different styles, but I wouldn't really know where to start :/ Anyways, happy new year! I wish you all the best!
Thanks! I got started early by playing piano cause my grandma was a teacher. Since then I've listened and played lots of different genres of music (rnb, funk, jazz, classical, world, hip hop, electronic, etc.). Basically I get bored easily so I'm constantly switching interests and genres. There's so much to learn from all kinds of music from all over the world. I still have much to explore and learn. Happy new year to you too!
@@onceuponasynth Thanks for the answer. And you're right, there is soo much to explore and learn :D I'm getting started now (this stuff is super exciting) and you're the one to inspire me to do this -- so thanks a lot for that :)
Hey man! Happy new year to you man. Thanks for lifting a ton of folks get over some creative humps!
I'm about to buy a Grandmother, which I'm ecstatic about. You mention in this video that you're running audio and MIDI both into the computer so you can quantize. Can you explain that a bit further? That kinda blows my mind as to how they can work together from one instrument.
This is a cool song with a nice low key vibe to it. Keep up the good work! :-)
Found this so inspiring that I nearly forgot to 'like' it.
Man every time a watch one of your vid I keep thinking...can't wait for the vocals!
Your lyrics are just the best mate.
Great track once again. Really loving it.
Thanks.
Well i just saw that you are a fellow Montrealais!
Salut!
thanks dude
Sweet! From your instagram video I thought you were getting the clap and cymbals from the GM, which I also have, and that made me question my life. Love your videos!
This shows me how much you can do with so little :)
Sweet
Happy 2019! What software / effects did you use for the vocals? They sound awesome.
This is like Indie dance music which is better, I love it!
Yaay new video, You're awesome. Try experimenting with groove pool for these dance genres. Keep em coming!
and DL 909 grooves to put them in the groove pool ;) some people did export the groove of their 909 in midi, it's on the internet for free :)
This was great! I’m late to the party but recently found your channel after getting a Grandmother. I’d like to emulate a similar setup for a project I’m working on. Are you routing the audio out into an interface and then midi out into your computer?
This is clubsound 👍🔊🎧🎹🎙
Super fun track! And 5 people don’t like having fun, I guess.
This is great : D
All the best to you and your channel for the next year. Or years maybe? Is that how you say it, "next years"? Or even better, the next 100 years! A bit much maybe? But anyway, honestly and seriously, happy happy much to you.
How would you compare the grandmother to the voyager?
Not comfortable using patch cables but really want this synth can I get a lot out of this since without using the cables ?
Great video! I'm curious to know how long the whole song took to produce/mix/master?
Housealicious!
You are the only one very unique i like you brother ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hey bro! First of all, I Love your video's! I just have one question, did you use the grandmother's sequencer to record the loop, in order to have your hand free to play with the filters en modulation..etc ? Thank you 😊🙏
As he hasn’t replied... I think what he did was record the midi of it then recorded the audio with midi playback from ableton
@@samjohnston8261 Aah ok, I see. thank you Sam for you reply!! 😊🙌
Happy new year, amazing stuff, especially the text - was that improvised?
I pre-wrote some of the words beforehand, so it wasn't totally improvised, but the music was largely improvised.
Ha Ha Ha ! Very very nice !
wow
I cant's download the track. Where i can download
Hey dude!! First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Love your videos and your style of creating music of differente genres!! I would like to know if you think a Moog Grandmother would be a good choice for a first synth!! Also, what is your mic? Keep it up !! Best wishes from Portugal!!
That would be an expensive starter synth, look in the second hand market there are many hidden treasures to be had, for the price of a moog you could get 3-4 really amazing synths.
I think it would be - it will allow you to learn a lot about synthesis since it's semi modular and it has character you can't easily get from plugins
@@benmironmd So is a korg ms 20 mini, could be had for less then half the price of a moog, and second hand would be even less then that.
Can't argue with that suggestion ... they are pretty different style/sound wise but sure a great option as well! Moog grandmother has some other features though like a nice sequencer, arp and also a built-in reverb that sounds great but that's why a synth is such a personal choice :).
@@benmironmd If you want a sequencer, you could also go for a deepmind 12 will still cost you less then a moog. You'll have a poly synth, an arpegiattor, a sequencer, velocity sensitive, aftertouch, semi weighted keys, 24 oscillators, 2 of which combined with 2 LFO per voice, remote controlled via usb, midi, ios/mac and wifi. That thing kills the moog grandmother dead in the water. Did I mention it was also $300 cheaper then the Moog. Or a Model D by the same maker. Which basically is a Model D by moog only at a tenth of the cost. Yep synths are really personal, it's just you can't have them all :D
This is amazing, great job! Where do you get the movies from, they look like old family movies from the early 60's?
they're stock footage from pond5. I wish I could find more stuff like that.
I looked for this song in your spotify and it's not there. I can't understand the reason why
How do you put all of your music on streaming services?
House music at its weirdest but I loved it!
which mic is he using guys? cheers
definitely a very cool and funny track but i wouldn't have called it house. i would have called it sort of weird ass electro. really fantastic as showcase of grandmother
I love the track it's very techy. The only downfall is the 909 tom frequencies clashing with the bassline.
That's okay you can fix that when you mix down.
thanks for the feedback. I'm still trying to hone in the whole tuning of drums thing, it's not something I'm used to. But I gotta play closer attention to that stuff.
@@onceuponasynth Damn synth lord did'nt expect a reply from you. I like your channel you're very creative. Interesting fact I'm all the way from South Africa. And lastly I'm no professional I wasn't bashing your track I was just giving you some constructive criticism. Also I noticed the clashing of the tom and bass wasn't all that bad after you mixed the track. I was quick to comment while you were composing the track.
@@koketsomokwele2312
Yeah i noticed the same thing when he was playing it but i also noticed i was pretty good once it was mixed! Im having the same troubles with my 808/909 bass frequencies!
What keyboard are you using, in front of the Moog?
I was Like number 707 on this video. Not as good as if I'd been Like 303 on the house video, I guess, but... I dunno, thanks for posting, in any case ;) Sounds great!
🍻
Happy New Year to you! Thanks for this video to start the new year. Will this be the year you start a Patreon page? :)
Thanks happy new year to you too! Yeah I definitely plan on launching a Patreon soon. Just gotta sort out the tiers.
The lead sounds remind me of Ultravox
You're the fuvking goat boy
Happy Serbian Easter, m8! See you afterJanuary 9th
This is awesome. Hey, do you still have the Deepmind 12? I just bought a Grandmother to learn synthesis, maybe dabble in Semi-modular/modular, also great for Bass and leads, Arp and sequence. I was checking out the Waldorf Blofeld, Access Virus T12 Polar, a Sledge with the Waldorf Architecture and Deepmind 12 for all other sounds. I ask because I know that Kemper abandoned future improvements to the T12, and the Blofeld has crashing and/encoder issues. I know the updates were supposed to address this on the Blofeld...and has it? ) Opinions on that gear would be appreciated.
This track is too deep :D
that arp makes me cry. so good
HOW TF DO I USE THIS AS A CONTROLLER WITH ABLETON
they know what is house but they don't know what is house
Alor dance
nicolas jaar stuff

Do u have taken any music course?
I took a few lessons back in the day, but I'm mostly self-taught.
I think the music and groove has legs and a raw, authentic (potentially club) appeal, but I think the track is weakened by the freestyle/stream of consciousness lyrics. I know that’s your thing, but I don’t think it worked here. Imo, they’re not interestingly surreal, just incoherent and distracting. Could definitely get into this track if the lyrics were reworked with a bit more thematic consistency. There are bits in the lyrics that could be focused on and developed into the lyrical/tonal theme for the track - though the bits about train stations probably isn’t it.
Either way, a great groove.
Rabbicore
The Claps are alittle too loud :)
don't do that again
Nice synths, nice videos, but the music is trash.
