dibakar banerjee's sarcasm is soo high, karan doesn't know if he is being sarcastic or not
Dibakar Banerjee story was amazing, using zombie as a metaphor to showcase caste system and honor killing was just ingenious
So you watched the movie???. Can you just explain a bit more about the movie and this anthology...
@@johnfred2671 actually zombies are used for majoritarian upper caste powerful but short-sighted attacking on smaller village used to describe people from lower caste, the girl who decided to stay on smaller village is used for honor killing metaphor, the story shows how father turns to beast and eats his own daughter because she decides to stay in smaller village just like girl marrying lower caste being killed by upper caste, also if you eat human flash zombies would not kill you just like minoriy religion are not harmed if they follow upper caste customs no matter how bad they are.
@@ankitraghuwanshi5055 Ohh good deeper understanding bro. I just didn't get it. But the reviews were very bad about the movie.. And how are the other parts...
@@ankitraghuwanshi5055 I was wondering why did he killed his own girl, now I got my ans. Thnx fr explaining.

its weird how when Dibakar was talking about Sukant Goel , and saying how he hopes he becomes the next big thing, Karan Johar looks at him and say's i don't know about next big thing and literally cuts the conversation. Why can't you treat outsiders with just as much respect as you treat star kids. You can easily go on praising Janhvi for over 5 mins, but when an actor like Sukant Goel is being praised , you barely give him the respect he deserves. Karan Johar is an ok filmaker and producer, but would appreciate if he can go beyond status , family and money before judging one.
vklane I was literally thinking that... ugh we love hypocrisy 😔✊🏼
Nevertheless, hope Sukant Goel gets the due he deserves, he was phenomenal!!!
It was shitty of him. What's even funnier is that Sukant made his debut in a Dharma movie (Kapoor and Sons) as Wasim.
That’s very true. This fucking karan is never ready to knowledge outsiders. Even for Zoya film, he was mention Jhaanvi only while the whole film revolved around Surika mam. This “flag bearer of Nepotism” should be slapped on the face in public. We only needed a Kangana Ranaut to spit on his face the way she did. Shame on you Gay Jo
You all are supremely judgemental. It's karan who mentioned that actor at 11:13 as "incredible actor by the way and holds the whole film together." Karan's film itself has outsiders as the lead in Avinash Tiwari and Mrunal Thakur. He said 'not sure about the next big thing' maybe because he has some experience of running the biggest production house of the country and maybe has some idea about what the majority likes. It wasn't condescending, maybe a bit too practical.
I wonder do these so called empty head filmmakers even read our comments , and if they do, can't they change the way they work .
And what's so special about that jhanvi Kapoor , there are 1000's of struggling actresses fucking better than her .
Fuck that Kapoor !
Karan Johar's film was just cringey it was like an EKTA KAPOOR serial
Don't compare them karan johar is bollywood aunty
i thought it was 2nd best after Dibakar Banerjee
@@paharipant2 ikr I thought it was the best after dibakat too!
Harshit Pant me too
I was actually waiting for kjo's because I needed to watch something funny after Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee's story
Never thought that would happen but agreed
Same. I wanted something brighter and lighter and cliche.
Hahahaa, likewise! I was hoping for a romantic horror from KJo after Banerjee's mindtwisting story and boy, what are the odds ?! 😜
I agree!! Even I was waiting for a comic relief after 3 deep meaning stories before
😂
Guys we get it, janhvi kapoor is good. But why praise her the most out of all the actors? That's the problem with nepotism.
Exactly, lets talk about all the actors and give them recognition
Because they didn't expect her to be so good. They were surprised.
@@vaibhawsingh01 same here. Even I was surprised.
Thats not the problem with nepotism. Nepotism is a 'problem' in your head which is why people like you, draw negativity more. EVERYTHING IS A FUCKING PROBLEM for you.
Sorry.
Actually the story and zoya's direction was phenomenal, not her...
Dibakar’s was the best. Liked anurag’s as well...liked the atmos in zoya’s film
Sukant Goel was in a movie produced by Karan Johar, he still doesn't remember him.
Maybe something happened behind the scenes
It’s funny how Karan brings in Jahnvi’s name into the conversation and drags it for 2-3 minutes with all but praises. Conversely, he quickly jumps from the topic when Vijay’s name was mentioned. Just an observation 😉
Of course johar was gonna bring up mrs.Kapoor's striking screen presence and ineherent talent
Dibakar Banerjee is arguably the best Indian director working today. All of his films have been exquisitely crafted works that play with tone in a way only a master director can. One of the few Indian directors whose works can compare with the best of world cinema.
I think my film only scares me... kjo...how true😁
Dibakar's film is the best one. He is like the guy who performs even when the entire team becomes complacent! Karan's is the most mediocre ghost movie you have seen recently. Zoya Akhtar's film is a decent one but Surekha Sikri's performance takes it up a notch🙌 Anurag's film is a different, he told a story he wanted to, irrespective of whether the audience will comprehend it or not, Every frame reeks of Anurag Kashyap. Not bad but not interesting.
Karan however wasted someone as good as Avinash Tiwari
I am just halfway through the video and i see people dropping comments as if they have watched the whole thing .
If you don't want to listen and want to elaborate stuff based on your understanding , abuse the directors , abuse the art , please get this straight
You didn't understand the episodes , analogies , horror isn't ghost or peek a boo - it's State of abandonment ( Zoya) , State of mind ( Anurag), State of Anarchy ( Dibakar) , State of Relationships and because you didn't get it , it gives you all the freedom to go Mad at them in various ludicrous and bizarre possible ways .
Dig well here !!!!!
At least someone who understands
Oh comeon! Of course not many people think that way. I mean Jordan Peele has a considerable fan base here. Rosemarys baby has its fare share of audience. Even Radhika Apte starrer Phobia dint have that many jump scares. 3 of the 4 shorts just dint work for a lot of us. Dibakar's was terrific.
Wow, beautifully summarized
I get that but these stories are not engaging.
Art isn't about engaging
Showing something whether relevant or not but to make them visible to audience when they get into those boots they should feel the same as the character did & being a filmmaker is making it do.
They didn't so they disappoint.
If concept is God
Then it would have been easy to sell a book by it's cover/ synopsis on Google desk.
Whenever anurag or Zoya say something, its always meaningful. I LOVE them all though.
Dibakar hit it out of the park mate...
*_I had no expectations with KJo. But Anurag, you disappointed me. Only Dibakar Banerjee lived up to the expectations. His story was best among all._*
Which is why KJo's was impressive coz it surpassed the 0 expectations.
I think you should watch an explanatory video for understanding anurags. It's quite deep rooted.
Walter White Zoya’s was excellent too.
@@soniapuri5444 There is a youtube channel called "Alter". They make short horror movies. Zoya's story was copied from their movie titled "Blue Door". Thats why I don't like Zoya's story.
@@walterwhite3798 Interesting. Did not know that. Perhaps the girl Zoya is talking about did indeed use it to propose the script to Zoya.
I liked Zoya's and Dibakar's.. Zoya's was well directed and well acted with perfect setting and lighting.I wish it was longer.. Dibakar's was more satire on current situation.. I think 30 mins was too short for this too..Anurag's was a bit messy. Karan's was actually funny and not scary. The costumes and settings were great in Karans..
Why does Anurag keep calling the writer of his short "the girl who wrote the script"? Say her name bro and call her a writer not just 'girl'. So disrespectful
He did name her... Isha
@@Bhodrolok only at the very end, even then he kinda struggled to remember her last name
He did take her name on the other hand I must say unlike many other directors he was constantly trying to give credit to the writer for the craft , which actually should be done, as writer is the person who conceives the film ,the story , without them nothing would be made at all
@@rangitsengupta3025 that was only at the end. Imagine if this was a writer's roundtable and at any point someone referred to him as "the guy who directed the film". It just wouldn't happen. He should atleast called her a writer because that's what she is and not "the girl who wrote the script". Atleast that would show her some respect as a professional
So a director is basically crediting a 22 year old writer for the entire story writing and credits her with her brilliant ideas and ALSO names her and tells us where she studied from and you comment section idiots still have an issue. Bhai I'm all for giving credit to writers and that's literally what he did so honestly this comment is TOTALLY unwarranted. Infact we should be appreciating the fact that he spoke so much about the writer. Wtf do you want man, kundali kholke pade anurag Isha ki?
I died laughing when I watched KJOs supposed horror movie! So cliche, full wedding scene, designer lehenga, and the background score “Madhaniya”...lol
If I remain unbiased, I actually liked KJo's one
Many in the movie deserve a lot of praise. But they took a couple of minutes for just Jhanvi.
Isn’t it 🙄
Omkar Reddy because she was the least expected lmao
Karan johar didn't meet his writer..now I understand why movie is not haunting
That's what I don't like about people bashing a really good movie for not being ridiculously jump scary. It's not your typical horror movie but it has a very grimmy following likes of great movie like hereditary and shinning .
well said.
IKR. thank God finally someone gets it. 🙂🙂
Yes brother
Nolan ka ya Martin Scorsese ka nam hota aisey movie me (I know they might not do a picture like this probably) then everyone would be like ..what an Amazing movie and all. Most of us are hypocrites that way.
So true man..they couldn't understand the depth of Anurag's and dibakar movies
I LOVEEEE Dibakar’s chaotic energy it made me laugh so hard 😆
How the family could see grandma in karan’s movie when only dead people could see her?
It's a Karan johar film, don't ask logical questions 🤣
They had to pretend that they were watching the grandma because if they didn't do then they would get the same result as that girl....

Honest opinion, it was bad, ghost stories was worst, lust stories was fine, bombay talkies was good. Zoya, ur film was literally thanda, ur build up had no effect at all. Again jhanvi kapoor accent demeanour was talked about but sukant only got 30 seconds of appreciation and karan, he deserves to be the next big thing in india cinema. Anurag, honestly felt like you didn't have that much conviction in the story and that showed in the plot. Karan, can't even talk about your story. Dibakar, you deserve a lifetime funding for your stories.
There are so many directors in the indian cinema who could direct a better ghost story than karan johar even some students can direct better than him but heyy Life is not fair... Remember
I have just watched ghost stories and dunno but I'd like to put Karan's movie on the TOP... He seriously managed to scare with dis one.
Dear Netflix, if you plan to carry on with this anthology, then please find a replacement for Karan Johar. Directors like Vishal Bhardwaj, Shoojit Sircar and Sriram Raghavan are way more competent than him. Also, please provide Dibakar Banerjee with the budget to turn his short film into a full fledged 2 hour movie.
I agree. We even can have a series where it is like anthology with about 7-8 directors
Zoya Akhtar is A Future of Bollywood
I loved her direction from lust to ghost stories
She's already 4 features, 3 anthologies and one web series old in this industry. She's not the future, she's the present.
@@vaibhawsingh01 future is yet to come
Karan is so good at keeping the conversation interesting and going.
People who didn't like this anthology do not understand difference between getting scared and getting startled.
I think you're joking!!😜
Honey grow up. It’s just a matter of difference of perception which you misunderstood as people’s inability to get its anthology. 😂
Insanely, bizzarely, genius!
I am gonna use that so many times in my conversations 🤭🤭🤭
"you're not married... You're not in a serious relationship" why would u say that Karan?
Because he's an aunty 🤦 he's THAT aunty you avoid at all social occasions.
Because it’s nothing embarrassing...
Because they are friends from years and they've probably spoken about it a million times and she doesn't have a problem talking about it. Chill the F out man, she only wasn't offended. Why are you?

How interested Zoya is when she is listening to Dibakar . She is a true intellect and lover of cinema.
it is a privilege to listen to Dibakar Banerjee. This man is full of intellect and knowledge. also my all time fav mr. kashyap ..respect
I wish Dibakar story was the full length zombie feature film. It was the best out of 4 honestly.
I completely agree.
When a good director of a cinema talks too much about the asthetics of his cinema, I feel the visual beauty is gone!! To Anurag and Dibakar, guys, please leave your cinema to audience as the way an individual wants to interpret it. I feel both of you have shocked me at a personal level with your work. I feel both of your parts are terrific. Both of you have done your work quite well so, let us give the oppertunity to discuss about it.
Well Ms. Akhtar and Mr. Johar, please continue with extensive discussions. I loved hearing them. Thank you. Re: Peekaboo, I see you...to Mr. Johar❤
Ghost stories was an absolute joke. I am not being biased but Netflix please give an opportunity to South Indian directors, they have quality content.
Yeah it was but Dibakars story was Something on a Top level scale.
Yah..I feel too.. besides Dibakar..I mean if you wanna give something really good to the people make that effort for those who actually will bring out.@Netflix
You guys just like to jump on your chair while watching horror movies... You people would never be able to love some absolute best horror movies from West
They should do comedy stories... oh wait they did that #GhostStories (except dibakar)
dibakar's part was the only good part of the movie
She should stick to scrolling pages , windows and losing sane

Till date, tumbadd is the best horror of Bollywood. If you haven't watched it go and watch it. Your hope in the Bollywood will be restored.
@@shaharyarlalani8209 i have seen it and its pretty good...
Right
All the stories had its own emotions. The audience want to see more work from this team.
I donno why people are hating on it... I loved Ghost Stories.
This trend or yearly anthology is a perfect place to find out new talent.. there are so many talented writers and artists out there that can benefit from such experiences.
Anurag's ghost story gave me glimpses of the Babadook and how it was a dark look towards depression and grief told in the form of a horror story. You have to keep the mindset of treating this as a ghost story on a side and watch it with an altogether different perspective. Having said that, I expected more out of his story.
Why is Karan talking about existence of spirits more bizarre to me than Dibakar explaining his fears about his children and their flesh being torn apart 😭
Ok watched it today and it totally blew my mind! Ghost Stories is talking about the demons that we live with each day. It's very little of the supernatural and more of the lived in fears and realities. Here's listing it in order of preference..
Dibakar's movie was such a nuanced piece of work.. i was restless watching it but by the end when I picked on the messaging it all came together.
Zoya's is my fav maker so i was glued to evey min. The story of loneliness, abandonment and moroseness is so well captured. Jahnvi and Surekha Sikri were outstanding.
Karan's short for me was about how we hold on to our rituals and traditions no matter what. And when you add moneyed people in the equation it just makes for hilarity plus. I found the vibe similar to the 'marrying the tree' episode of 'Made in Heaven'
Anurag's story was very well shot but i didn't understand it. Esp the cannibalism and the reference to crows. I love Shobhita who is poker face crazy but yeah i didn't get all of it although that scene of her on the toilet seat with the shot of the bloodied sanitary pad was just BOMB!
I used to troll jhanvi for being 'Nepo' kid but man she's been extremely good and nicely done her job .
if she is talented, she could have just earned her position via normal process why did she take advantage of her contacts?
Anurag & Dibakars stories were amazing but Karans was hilarious, no matter what happens Karan simply can't ignore grand weddings!!
Overall this anthology was good.
You guys really started this year with horror and set the tone for us of this year
Good panel.Karan is a good moderator and it's stimulating to hear Anurag ,Dinakar and Zoya the real film makers/ story tellers.
Sukant Goel had an important role in Kapoor and Sons. He can be seen in the trailer too. It’s amazing how Karan doesn’t remember actors from his own films, it’s just the nepo-people he acknowledges!!
Dibakar's story is great. Others are borderline garbage.
exaccctlyyy
Yeah just like your opinion . I don't care what you say about Zoya or Karan's story but Anurag's short was on another level. The level that is going to broaden and move forward Indian cinema . An abstract surrealist portrayal is something that is gold in film culture and not acknowledging the nuance in it is absolute ignorance .

Aaahhhh yeaah
Saumya Sharma I think he did a better job hosting this than his short film. He might not be the best at this genre, self admittedly, but he definitely knows how to conduct interviews. Does get carried away with himself a bit sometimes but I like how he got so much out of everyone .
Saumya Sharma then love stories
Was Dibakar asking Karan something or trolling him ? 😂😂
I loved Zoya's short, actually that's the only one I watched. I read the reviews of the others and didn't want to watch anymore or rather not want to be afraid. However, I'll say this that this interview was definitely interesting and after hearing the thoughts behind the making of the films, I might muster up some courage to watch the remaining 3 films, although I'll wait till day ;-). I look forward to the next series from such intelligent film makers. I'm sure you guys already decided your next genre, here are some ideas ... True stories, Hate stories, rags to riches stories, crime stories, sad stories, funny stories, voyage stories....
12:29 same thought like Anurag 🎥🖤✨
Trust me you guys made a good film. Just a bit forward for these slow pace moving people.🍁
Dibakar is the most intelligent & humorous person in the Panel. ♥️🔥
The main title music composed by Sameer Uddin is also worth a mention.... nice moody kind of old school orchestral track..... and also every composer who scored each of the four films....great work!!!!
Wise People and wise words....but full entertainment...4 of India's best storyteller....
This gang is bloody awesome..they have done some A class work on Horror stories..and yes..I agree with Anurag that their next should be Crime..but how about dystopian crime..or noir maybe..I bet they all have it in them to make good really intricate..crime..drama..maybe noir or even dystopian..but yes.. that'd be a lovely idea..
I loved ghost stories, people are too darn negative out here man 😂😂❤️
For me, I absolutely loved zoya’s story the most as it was most relevant & a perfect ghost story that kept me on the edge of my seat, & next best was Karan Johar’s story as I absolutely loved going through that short mystery & suspense about the existence (or non-existence) of the granny. And as for the other 2 stories, neither appealed to me at all as I’m not a fan of zombie or “gory” horror , both were rather depressing, disturbing and unsatisfying tales. I must say, when it comes to Hindi horror , no director can even come close to the Bhatt camp! Truely a fan of vikram & mahesh bhatt
I loved Zoya’s film. She never disappoints. I’m too scared to watch Anurag’s, I’ll definitely get to it after I muster up the courage. Deebakar’s film I cannot stop thinking about and have already watched it more than once and I keep thinking about the last car scene. Everything was brilliant in that short, especially the cast. And Karan’s I didn’t enjoy whose shorts I’ve definitely liked in the past. This time, unfortunately , the glamour was a distraction from the story I feel.
The should do a "next stories", where they can make spin-off of one of their characters :D
Ghost Stories is a great work of art with incredible themes. Worth our time. I loved all.
WHY DO WE HAVE TO COMPARE THEM AMONGST EACH OTHER!
I like what the editor did at 24:37
1st - Lust Stories
2nd - Ghost Stories
3rd - One Minute Stories (Challenging) 🤘💥
Dibakar banerjee was phenomenal
Others were no good
Karan johar was b grade
Very disappointed with the movie. Most of the directors seem to have made a movie to apply for awards rather than make something actually scary. Especially Anurag Kashyap. Really disappointed.
Wow u really didnt understamd the movie
@@sanskardotexe again, the director wants to make you believe that the story is super complicated, which it isn't. The themes are fairly easy to pick up. The issue is, there is nothing HORROR about it. You wanna submit it to an art film festival, FINE. But if you call a movie GHOST stories, I would expect to be reasonably scared on watching it.
Looks like he was influenced by black swan.. that crow waala scene ,when the lady fully becomes a crow and picks a feather from her arm..was exact copy from that..
@@pratiksha8644 well its not typical but they tried to be subtle
Not your fault. We aren’t taught art and it’s interpretation in general. What Anurag did is called artistic expression, just like he said in the interview. He did what he wanted without having to explain it. Or award k liye bhai banayi toh kya galat hai... man has ambitions.
Intelligent conversation!!!
I loved Anurag Kashyap story. And yes' the anology (39:00) about that instrument used to pull the staircase down. I got that too...!!!! If you're reading this Anurag, please do more such work.

@@deets1250 great analysis.. Thank you..have a question about that scene, the sobhita transform into bird and looking terrified at another bird like figure.. Is that figure also sobhita and why it eats own baby or eating is just analogy to the childhood egg Story?
@@126rishabhdaiya4 yeah you're right. At least I see it as an analogy/ parallel.
Sobhita adopts the physicality of a predatory bird + when she looks into the mirror, she sees that demonic figure; which is essentially a projection of her psychological trauma.
The bird (in the childhood flashback) is assumed to look at Sobhita as some kind of demon destroying her eggs, so Sobhita imagines herself as that demon, destorying her own 'egg' or foetus... hope that makes sense (??)
But this film is very open to interpretation, so if you interprete it differently, as long as it makes sense, it's still valid 👍🏼
It was a great gesture from Dibakar Banerjee to start acknowledging his crew, particularly the sound designer..... otherwise no film director worth his or her salt talks at length about their crew in these kinds of promotional interviews.
Would love to see a conversation between Dibakar and Anurag discussing their films, society, psychology and everything beyond 👌🏼
4:30-4:50& 30:35-30:40, its fine if you have been unaware anything of the writer of your movie, but not knowing someone who has got nothing whatsoever to do with your movie is sarcastic and you get "LOVED"🖤 for that.

They are just hyping stories to get audience to watch their movie. it's a cheap move from KJO . I bet this is his idea since the reviews were trash
I really love the creepy story of anurag sir...something new
Please do Quentin Tarantino kind of film.. and if the stories blend with each other.. that wd be awesome
i think next they should all make 4 thrillers based on themes of trust, betrayal, camaraderie ,somthing like Noir story and may be the length should be a little longer may be an hour[per story]
Nobody ever praised Shobita for 2 minutes straight in front of the camera, who really deserves for the work she's done. But they do that for Jahnvi because we know why 😶
