- Xbox has refreshed its Game Pass lineup with the new Core tier. While the new option makes sense, there is one level that you should avoid as it will only end in frustration.

Console is fine, I have it. No interest in multiplayer, I’m a single player gamer and proud.
I play multiplayer, but all the MP games I play are Free To Play, so I don't have to pay for online. Game Pass Console is perfect.
Its a very very niche tier. Even for single player players
The problem is a number of the games force always online even if they're single player and a lot are moving in that direction.

if you already had a year long subscription you keep the year long subscription, i haven’t changed mine since years & years ago when i first got gold, & when it went to gp core i kept my year long subscription
I am happy that I got the console tier. I really don’t care for the online multiplayer stuff I don’t really use the perk options or the EA membership thing. Plus here’s the added benefit: This tier helps me save 6 dollars per month so the tier i chosen is perfect for me.

Something I think you have overlooked is that Console could be a good deal depending on your interest in online play. If you are only interested in free online games, it's actually probably a better deal than core.
You can already play Fortnite, Halo Infinite, Fall Guys, Rocket League, COD Warzone/DMZ, Apex Legends without having any of the subscriptions. So something I think is fair to ask is, what games are valuable to the individual for online multiplayer?
If you're just playing one of those games I listed, imo you're better off getting Console or no subscription whatsoever.
Agreed. I also wonder how many people never bought Xbox Live, just playing the games they bought on disc. Back in the day, that was me. Then I bought 3 years of Xbox Gold Live and paid $1 to convert to Game Pass Ultimate and have never looked back. I still don't play online.
@@rager1969 Yeah I used to buy gold and get games I wanted full price. Then I used the conversion trick almost three years back. That's expiring in November and with free to play games having free multiplayer now, I think I might not get any subscriptions and just pay full price for games I want. I find it hard to justify paying for ultimate when the games I actually use for online play are free now. I think the only game I use online for is MCC, or a gamepass game I try for a few weeks before going back to my favorites.
Maybe after going a few months without a subscription, I'll change my mind. But the free to play trend has killed the value of Xbox gold/gamepass core for me.
If Microsoft Xbox would have been smart they could have won this console generation by making online play free, this would have pulled in a lot of new players to the Xbox side especially now Playstation raised their prices for online gaming.
But no, Xbox stayed stuck in their ways, what a shame...
@@NordicWildSoul People have been asking for free online multiplayer for ages. If Xbox believed the increase in new GamePass subs would offset the loss in revenue from dropping the online multiplayer tax, they would’ve done so already. To me, it’s clear that they don’t think the number of potential new subs would offset the revenue lost from the online multiplayer subscription.
You also have to take into consideration that online multiplayer access is probably the main reason why console players choose GP Ultimate over GP Console. If online multiplayer became free, I’d guess that many (if not, most) Ultimate subscribers would downgrade to GamePass Console which would further reduce the amount of money Xbox makes from its user base.
I don’t think Xbox gets rid of the online multiplayer tax until they have another popular feature to include in Ultimate and upsell us on.
If you couple the loss of Xbox Live/Game Pass Core revenue with the number of people who’d probably downgrade from Ultimate to Console, that’s a significant reduction in revenue that wouldn’t be made up by new GamePass subs.
Exactly. It is obviously terrible value if you will be playing non free-to-play games online. If you are solely a free-to-play or single-player gamer, this would be perfect for you.
Honestly if Sony offered a Playstation Plus Premium (Offline Edition) for $10 per month I would def grab that. Well maybe, since it doesn't include day one games.

I don't play multiplayer , don't care about xcloud and EA play is too dominated by multiplayer and sports games.
Console really is the best tier for me.
Console is an awesome tear for people that don't want to play online. You get to play every game even the day one releases and maybe you don't want to hear all the toxicity on the mics or play with people online.

Console is the best for me I'm really into "offline" games . So getting day one games and the catalog is a W for me .
For people who play only single player games, of which Xbox & Game Pass have plenty (Starfield, Psychonauts 2, The Outer Worlds, Fable, Assassin's Creed, Wasteland 3, Pillars of Eternity, Fallout 4, Skyrim), the Console Game Pass seems the best option. Don't know why it's being called the garbage tier, honestly.
Because these guys are shills. Microsoft goes out of their way to hide the Console tier. Pretty obvious that they'd want to kill it off, since it IS the best value for regular gamers who want to play regular games by themselves on their console. In fact for me Console tier is great. I play strict on console, only form time to time on PC but for that I use GOG. But 90% of play time is console and form that another 80-90% is single player games. Only one game I play multiplayer is Halo Infinite and this one is free so no need to pay. Anyway if I have to but it now I definitely get console tier. Ultimate is great but the price is much higher.

I only paid for Game Pass Ultimate for years for several reasons. I mainly play on PC.
Bonuses on Ultimate is Perks, Xbox+PC, Cloud, EA Access, A lot more MS Reward points etc.

Upgraded from Gold to ultimate. Once the current term expires will be going back down to Core. I’m one of those old school game buyers, usually on physical media.
Ultimate is nice for testing out full games to see what you want. It saved me a lot of money as i didn't want many i had on Wishlist.
I’m curious if there’s a difference between Core and Console when purchasing say Starfield Digital Upgrade which was half the price of a game. I’m wondering if Core qualifies. If not, that’s some shady practices. I guess I’ll have to try it.
Starfield isn't on Core, so you'd need either Console or Ultimate to use the upgrade.
As someone who has ZERO interest in playing online, if there were only Core and Ultimate and I had to pay 50% more just to get access to the full catalog (which includes single player only games like Starfield) I'd be furious.
So they basically doubled the price of basic gold for a whole year.
For basic Xbox live per a whole year was a $60 prepaid card with no tax (I bought them at Krogers for years for fuel points).
Now, if they get rid of the prepaid codes and can only go by the $9.99 a month X 12 months it equals 120 (not including tax rate wherever you live) and where I live it would come out to $129.70 with tax just for basic gold , now called core. JUST FOR BASIC multiplayer access to online Internet!
So apparently the so called backlash when Microsoft announced the price hike in gold, didn't amount to nothing and Microsoft still pushed it under the rug with a disguise.
I've paid for Xbox gold for 13 years without bitching but this is becoming fk'ing bull$h!t.
They are throwing more junk in just to say you are getting a "deal" and to "justify" charging double of what you used to get.

Standard Xbox live Gold codes turn into what ever you have at moment, for example if you have ultimate the prepaid codes will turn into a 3:2 ratio of ultimate (6-9 months or so).
However Microsoft has changed the rules and now you get less for your money with the 12 month prepaid Xbox live codes. (Greedy bastards)
It's a 3:2 ratio now instead of 1:1 for Xbox live Gold convention to ultimate.
you'll now need to purchase around 18 months of Xbox Live Gold to convert it to 12 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, pushing the price to around $120 instead of the previous $60 when using the conversion method.
With the new Xbox game pass increase ($16.99 for ultimate $204 for 12 months not including tax), the annual subscription costs around $200 if you're paying monthly (actually yearly), so the conversion trick could still save you around $80 or so if that's what you'd prefer to do.
Hope this info helps, because Microsoft sure in the hell doesn't.

I was an ultimate subscriber for years, but I rarely had time to play all of the other “free” game pass offerings, so I downgraded to gold, now core. Maybe I’ll actually play and finish some of the other games I currently own.
Most of the games with Game Pass I already own on disc or digitally. Cause if my subscription runs out, I can at least play my games until I get it paid.
What baffles me is that PC and Console tiers are the same except Console misses EA Play and online multiplayer, yet you pay $1 more 🙄
Xbox believes they have way more growth potential on PC than they do on console, so they’re giving PC users a better deal to incentivize them to switch over to PC GamePass.
Like the comment above states, they’re definitely trying to grow the PC side. In concept you can call it supply and demand. There’s way more demand on console so the prices go up.

Yup 100%. It's the same exact thing I just did. Day 1 new releases and a bunch of other games, just without multi-player.

Depends on if the game is cross platform or not, most 1st party xbox games will be cross platform but you would have to try it out or search the game to see if its compatible

Brad just assumes that everyone plays multiplayer games. There are plenty who don't. And people who subscribe to "Console" can still play Halo, COD Warzone, Fortnite, and other free to play games online if they choose. For me, I'll either subscribe to Console, or nothing at all. I refuse to pay for multiplayer.

@@MARS-ht7qu Halo Infinite multiplayer is free. You don't need Game Pass at all. The single player campaign would require either the "Console" tier or Game Pass Ultimate.
What Microsoft should do (but they won't) is to make online gaming free, as is should be. Then, make only 3 tiers of game pass, Console, PC and Ultimate.
What if I own GTA Online/FH5 and get a core membership? Since GTA/FH5 is not in the Core membership "games list", will I be able to play it online?

I've been having Xbox Game pass ultimate for like forever. On my Series X console as well as other previous gens. I had a sub of live etc. Now if only I had a PC I have a MacBook thats almost 10 but honestly don't know if I'd stay away from the console. Now I get lots of Gamepass pts used a bit but have used it to basically fund it free or as gift cards or enter sweepstakes that I'll never win. Maybe one day. Now back to finish your vid.

Yeah, I really wish they would have gone with the family plan set up because I have 4 consoles. One for me, my wife and my 2 young children and if we all want to play a game together using game pass I have to have 4 subscriptions coming out $70 a month and that is ridiculous.
Could be done with 2 subscriptions using the home console feature. For example you and your wife each get game pass and set your kids consoles as your home consoles. Anyone on your home console gets the benefits of your subscription and you get your subscription benefits on any console you're signed into.

I don't know if I would call Console the garbage tier. After all it is just the regular Xbox game pass re-branded. I rarely play against anyone in online multiplayer anymore, so that part doesn't matter to me. The main reasons I subscribe to GP Ultimate is the cloud gaming and the EA play games. The only game I played multiplayer on Game Pass was Tetris Evolved when it was on there. I still think that these price tiers will soon be disrupted with cheaper ad supported tiers.
GPU is expensive as a student, but I also own multiplayer games. I would gladly pay the 60 for a year of GP Core, and just turn on the months separately for Console when I have more time to play.

ok so I'm back to xbox after few years I had my old x one x in the closet I was thinking to play path of exile because I heard it doesn't need console/gold whatever the name is BUT how I'm supposed to download anything if I have no access to the store without console or core? no access to netflix , youtube or store? The games I play are already free to play online. Fall Guy, Apex legends and Rocket League. 'Console' is perfect for me.

I think you missunderstand the usage of "console", This is what we had with the normal GP without any any additional stuff. So you can buy 1 Year of Core and then only for some single months extend it to "consloe" to play GP games. After the the subscription time it will be core again. So Console is an addon to core and not a separate subscription at all. This is as it was with Gold and GP (not Ultimate) for years now. That means you Gold (Core) gets not upgraded to anything else and is still active if you buy a month of "console". So for anyone who want only MP without GP, you can buy the 1-3 year core subscription for a very low price, which is/was Gold before. Later on, if you want to play some GP Games you can just buy 1 month GP console as an addon to core. After the 1 month you still have your core subsrciption. This is exactly that, what we had for years already, it has just another confusing branding name.

And if you look up the tiers now it just says core , ultimate , and pc , and on the xbox itself it gives you options for console or ultimate . And console says it has multiplayer but it really doesn't include it on most games .

They don't own them yet, but likely will soon. Eventually, the new COD games will launch on Game Pass, but it's unclear if the one releasing in 2023 will. There might still be contractual obligations to Sony and it won't be until 2024 that new COD games launch on Game Pass. But all the older COD games should be there shortly after the acquisition completes.
10$ a month is a total of 120$ a year. Before this was a thing I could’ve gotten a year subscription for 60$.

As a Game Pass Ultimate subscriber this is a massive fail.
1. We are losing 2 free GWG games each month which we can play whenever/forever (24 games a year)
2. Only about 3 (I think) games in the Game Pass Core Library are not already available through Game Pass Ultimate.
So we lose games and gain nothing with no reduction in the Game Pass Ultimate price to compensate... so sad.

Console for $11 with the entire GPU library and Day 1s feels like highway robbery. That's a great deal if you're like me and you don't enjoy online multiplayer. I didnt even know it was a thing until just now and I feel dumb

Yup im on a fixed ans strict income / budget, so Core is perfect I only play one or a few games online anyways and honestly I think if a user only plays one game repeatedly, that there should be an even cheaper fee, like 4.99 a month if you don't care to play other games being offered. If you choose to buy your games rather than play games for a duration of time each month. Then. You only pay what you play. Thank you.
I'm not sure console is worthless, if you only play on console mostly single player games, then console makes sense given the amount of games you get access to, it is not as good value as pc game pass (EA Play is not included), but that is understandable given that console always entail a premium.

Let's look at it this way, if you game on PC and console all roads lead to Ultimate. If I wanted core and PC separately, those are three dollars more per month. Not worth it to me. I only have Core to play Xbox online. I am rethinking this. I'll give it a month or two before making a decision. I wish they would just make it free to game online via console. I never liked this about console that Micorsoft, Sony, and Nintendo currently do.

I feel like the tiers would be a lot more respectable if multiplayer/online play was made universally free with no restrictions. Paying for online play has always been ridiculous (and not something on PC). This would make multiplayer and cloud saves free on Xbox bringing it to parity with PC and all of a sudden paying twice as much for hundreds more games and day one is a fantastic deal. But as is with nearly all the most popular titles on Game Pass requiring multiplayer console is just a tier to up sell people to GPU.

@Brad Sams: Because I have a new laptop, it says that I have the PC Xbox game pass for free, one time, and if I do used it. I can play Superliminal for free untill it expires however I want to know if the PC version Xbox got work shop for Superliminal. I know it does not have Multiplayer on Superliminal because the multiplayer is for console online only, and Steam. I already bought Superliminal for Nintendo switch and it got all the update except for multiplayer, and the work shop. The reason why Nintendo switch version does not have multiplayer their are no Xbox game pass for Nintendo switch but that should not be a reason since Steam got Multiplayer on Superliminal with no game pass, and the Xbox game pass for console got the Multiplayer for Superliminal. I know the reason why the work shop is not in the Nintendo switch they are 2 reason, first reason it is just on beta stage, 2nd reason Nintendo does not approof of getting model outside of Nintendo switch and putting the model into Superliminal. So if Nintendo would approve Work shop, you would be limited to the model on the e-shop, or the game itself send you to a Browser where you can download does stuff dirrectly.
