- Thank you all so much for your immense insights in the comments section. It's helping me really know more about Elvis Presley, the man and the musician. I really appreciate it. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
On that note, I'll like to give a special shout out to the following. They have been super helpful. They went out of their way by taking the time to bless me with resources that ordinarily, I might not get readily here or would have a hard time fishing them out.
Thank you @Mitzi Wyman training for the articles, links, etc. I'm super grateful 💕💕💕.
Thank you @Kevin Davidson for mailing me several resources and communicating back and forth with me on the life and work of Elvis💕💕💕
Thank you @Barry Young, @Steve Christ, @Margaret Taylor, @Christineb Morel, and @Max Lannon ( Elvis No 1 fan)

ELVIS always said that his voice was a gift from God....Nobody in HIS family, has a similar voice... HIS daughter and grand daughter had nice voices, but nothing special....NO ONE CAN COME CLOSE TO HIM...***LONG LIVE THE KING****
I'm no singer by any stretch, but I've heard people say that Elvis was a natural singer, no training, and had no tension in his shoulders at all. Basically, Elvis could sing however and whatever he wanted, flawlessly.
Ed Sullivan didn't want Elvis singing a gospel on his prime time show but Elvis promised he would sing this song for his mother as this was her favourite 😍
Like most people, I'm glad he went ahead and performed it. Ed sullivans still exist as they existed before him🙃
Correct
He was so incredibly talented he didn’t need professional training and he was so humble and he could have easily had a very bloated ego but he never got too full of himself ❤❤ he really was the whole package, the man was so handsome and that voice was amazing the world lost a true treasure when he passed away though I bet Heaven sounds more beautiful than we are able to even fa❤❤
My man Elvis beautiful inside and out. This is one of my favorite songs though it is a shorter version here
It's hard to choose a fav for me but peace in the Valley is surely one
HE WORSHIPS😍
Crying in the Chapel and Why Me Lord 🤗
Thanks for the suggestions
Joshu fit the battle or Run on fantastic songs
@@grahammalcolm7130 early 60s his voice was at his best so was his physical health
@@seanfitzpatrick4730 I would have said that he was at his best about the comeback tour after his stint in the army, but the most memorable concert I believe is, Aloah from Hawaii. I didn't at that time like the variations that he had made to his original music (I tend to be a traditionalist), but in the end for me Hawaii on would became ELVIS.
You are a big fan of Elvis Presley, I don't like anything at all but I respect the personal taste of others
Hey Oscar!!!!! 💕💕💕💕💕💕
@@christineokosun Hello my beautiful friend🥰❤️, see you in the Dimash section hahaha, when the pandemic ends see you in Venezuela 🇻🇪❤️🙏🏻😘👍🏻 my house is your house !
Awwwwwnnnn that's awesome!!! Thank you!!!!! 💞💞💞💞
You're spot on Christine; Elvis really ENJOYED experimenting (Playing around) with his AMAZING voice...My explanation is, shaking his voice up and down; high and low, Elvis was so confident (No bragging) in what he could do with his voice (sing) and his body (move the "Pelvis") as we've often seen and heard him changed lyrics (humour) during his concerts...That was a SPECIAL gift from God to Elvis; no one else could EVER DARED go into those territories with "The King"💯👏
You are 100% correct. No Gimmicks. Also, your joy is a pleasure to watch.
Thanks a lot!!!!💕💕💕💕
Lead Me, Guide Me, Where Did They Go, Lord. Rock My Soul, Reach Out To Jesus, An Evening Prayer, He Touched Me
In how great thou art, the back up singers were J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet. The female backup were The sweet inspirations. Three black girls. He loved the timber of the black voices.
Delightful AND very educational, thank you. :-)
My pleasure 💕💕💕💕💃
Your the only vocalist that I’m interested in listening too lol great reaction
Thanks a lot David Young!!! 😭💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Elvis was the most underrated musical arranger. He knew how they need to sound that accompany his own vocals. You nailed it. Enjoy your Elvis reactions. Please listen to one of his best gospel song. He Touched Me...studio version. Brilliant and back up singers.
Great reaction, I enjoyed it. To answer your question, no those are not the same backup singers. These backup singers with young Elvis are The Jordanaires, the ones with the older Elvis are J.D. Sumner and The Stamps Quartet.
Thanks a lot! 🙏🙏🙏
the Jordanaires are on most of Elvis songs recorded from the 50's and 60's,such as Hound dog ,Don't be Cruel and his Movie soundtrack songs) they also did back vocals for ''Ricky Nelson ''
Wow I love you!!
Thank you @Debra Vowell🙏💞💞💞💞
Thank you, thank you, thank you for attempting to teach the modern singers how to sing correctly!
OMG, she doesn't stop talking!!!
Please do "Oh happy day" rehearsal in red shirt.
The backup singers were the Jordanaires. The Jordanaires were an American vocal quartet that formed as a gospel group in 1948. Love your reactions, Christine, you are my favorite. Be safe and God Bless. His Hand In Mine, Where No One Stands Alone, The Impossible Dream. Where Did They Go Lord, isn't Gospel per see but it has a gospel feel and is very good, the power and feeling in his voice, love that song so much.
Thanks lot for these suggestions and for your kind compliment💕💕💕
No one and four sounds like gospel by the title though
The bass singer is JD Sumner and he and Elvis sang why me Lord so amazing so so amazing my favorite song from them
Tired and so weary but I must go along
Thanks for the lyrics 💕💕💕
Elvis had 22 years old on this song, the same age when recorded Jailhouse Rock... and it's totally another style of song. I love your reactions. Are very instructives. Greetings from Chile!
That’s The Jordanaires backing up Elvis there. The Sweet Inspirations were his back up on How Great Thou Art
Thank you 💕💕
Swing Down sweet chariot
When i see you have reacted to Elvis I can't find it soon enough. Thank you so much for all the effort you put into this. You really are the best.
Thank you!!!! 😊😊💕💕💕💕
By the way watch Elvis full Comeback Special 1968 (black leather suit) That is the absolute best in everything. Here he is at times sitting down and other standing up. Try one or 2 songs TRYING TO GET TO YOU and ONE NIGHT WITH YOU. Even though I love Aloha Special I prefer this one.
Thanks a lot for these suggestions. My list is growing!!! 💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃
He did the arrangements always
Really creative taste and ears he had!!!
Wow this is just what I have been looking for. Instant subscription. A professional technical analysis of the great man's vocals please please keep them coming you give me and probably a lot of other fans great joy hearing your professional feedback, even though we already knew how good his voice is lol.
Thank you!!!! 💃💃💃💃💃💃
Love your reactions
Thank you!!!!
Hello again my dear sister; we're so far apart (Toronto The Beautiful - Canada 🇨🇦) yet, close in spirit (The LOVE of Christ)...I'm thinking 🤔♥ you would love County/Gospel singer Randy Travis; please react to his, Three Wooden Crosses...Amazing lyrics ❤👏
Love your vocal analysis. It is very insightful and informative. Please could you react to the song "It Hurts Me" by Elvis Presley. It is one of my favorites by him. It is such a dynamic, heartfelt performance. If you decide to react please make sure it is the original studio version from 1964. Cheers!
Thanks a lot for the compliment and suggestion. It's been added to my list of Elvis reactions 🙏
A great thou art a different group I forget the name of the group but they were really good and famous
React elvis presley - american trilogy (aloha from hawaii 1973)
Already recorded. Waiting for emotional strength of mind to edit. That was a heavy one on me😢
Oh yes, American Trilogy is a good one
Great video reaction. Thank you so very much for posting. My favourite Elvis music, is gospel music
Thanks for the compliment💕💕💕. I'm loving his gospel songs as well.
love your reactions! God bless U.
Thank you so much Augusto!!!!! 💞💞💞💞💞
Please do his "Oh happy day" (Rehearsal and he is wearing a red shirt here), 'I believe "(Young Elvis but just audiol, Even though it is not a gospel song" If I can dream "( 1968 Comeback Special). It was written with what was important to Elvis and he sang his heart out. He never sang that on stage again. Please you have to do it as it is raw emition.
It would be my absolute pleasure.!!! Notes taken already of your suggestions. I've already recorded the IF I CAN DREAM. Just ensure you turn on your notification bell to know when it's uploaded ( I pray it won't give me copyright troubles🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏)
@@christineokosun Thank you so much. Absolutely love your reactions...
Backup singers on how Great thou art
Christine; in my opinion, that's the MOST amazing thing about Elvis, at such a young age; he could go so low (deep voice) and high with such CONTROL and the quality of that voice never changed...Also on the reason he didn't write his own songs; why would he want to write songs when he could take everyone else's song and sing it BETTER than them😀
Exactly!!!
The ones on that sell them and they were in the movies like three or four movies when he sang
Check out the songs Elvis released in 1969 that was the top peak of his vocals ,its insane how perfect and powerful his voice was in 1969
Sinatra also did not write his smash hit My way. It is one thing to sing and another to compose, not all composers sing, nor all singers compose. Elvis had a prodigious voice in all aspects. A giant of music without a doubt.
Well said!!! 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽
These back up singer are on almost all of Elvis’s earlier records. They were known as the Jordanaires.
They are good!
Christine, I really love the way you dissect Elvis' music and his voice! No one else does it like you! Please, please, please react to his gospel song "He Touched Me" from the album "Where No One Stands Alone". (audio only). On this album some of the background voices that were very loud on the original recording have been stripped away, so he is in the forefront and you can hear all the nuances in his voice. Sorry, I don't have a link for this, but if you search for the title and the name of the album, you should be able to find it. Thank you so much. Looking forward to your review.
Thanks a lot for the compliment and suggestion 💕💕. He touched me is already on my list of Elvis reaction.
@@christineokosun Great! Be sure it's the one from the album "Where No One Stands Alone". Thank you!!!
Precious Lord Take My Hand is another beautiful inspirational
Duly noted. Thank you!
Thanks 💞💞💞
Another great reaction Christine. Its great to hear you break down the elements of his vocal instrument. True singing has become a lost art I think.
I couldn't agree less. Though there are some amazing singers out there in this time such as Dimash Kudaibergen, Diana Ankudinova, etc but art and the heart of performance such as the oldies is almost non existence. I believe this largely has to do with scarcity of Authenticity due to copycat syndrome.
@@christineokosun Maybe I'm just used to hearing so much of the current "top 40 music" and close mindedly just listen to the music of the past.. I heard Lady Gaga the other day in Washington and was floored by her voice so I know the talent is out there. John Legend is another great one. Thanks for your professional take on things.
My pleasure! 💞💞💞💞
it is very relevant of you to use this metaphor of image and color to describe the work of musical arrangement that Elvis gives to his interpretations. you thus give a great artistic dimension to the work of musical creation of Elvis that many confine wrongly in the vocal performance. Only artists of your competence and sincere can give an account of the impressive musical dimension of its musical and orchestral interpretation. an authentic work of art. thank you very much for your work we learn to appreciate from a new angle the timeless work of Elvis by making us discover, more and more, his finesse and his peerless mastery of singing and music.
I love that last part!!!! 🕺🕺🕺. The way you described Elvis talent as PEERLESS mastery ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I would be very curious to see your reaction on the song called American Trilogy from the 1973 Hawaiian Aloha special shown all over the world on satellite and seen by over 1.5 billion people. Thank you.
I've recorded that and I didn't get myself for two whole days.!!!! I became a serious Christian and fasted after that. NO KIDDING. HONEST AND ABSOLUTE TRUTH!!!
I'm taking my time to edit that. It took so much from me and I've being hesitant editing it. Thinking about it alone, brings tears to my eyes!!! MY LORD! NO WORDS!!! NO WORDS!!! SMH.
Another thing that I have to pray ahead for is that It shouldn't give me copyright issues. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏.
He was a lot more versatile at this time theres some wonderful songs from this time that he sung for me he was at his best 60/62 👍nice reaction
Thank you!!! 💞💞🙏🙏🙏
Much love! I'm here to share my 65 years experience as an amateur Elvis scholar (I began Jan. 28, 1956 as a 9-year old). The background singers here are The Jordanaires (a gospel group). They did not appear with him in Vegas. Those were 2 gospel groups - The Imperials; and J.D. Sumner & The Stamps Quartet. BTW (with love), J.D.'s name is SumNer. Keep up up your wonderful, wonderful...and very informative work! I am a FAN!!
Oh!!!! I have being misspelling it all the while!!!! Thank you!!!!
@@christineokosun I might have told you before that I had two meetings with J.D.
Hi loving your reactions. No these are not the same backing group these are The Jordanaires and they worked with Elvis until 1969. Elvis also worked with his female backing singers The Sweet Inspirations 1969 - 1977 when Elvis passed away. The last video you saw was JD Sumner and The Stamps Quartet they worked with Elvis 1971-1977 and The Imperials toured with Elvis 1969-1972 and recorded 2 gospel albums including Elvis final Grammy award winning album "He Touched Me"
Thanks a lot for the info. I really appreciate it 💕💕💕💕
The backup singers on Ed Sullivan Peace in the valley
Great reaction❣️ Elvis is amazing and wonderful too❤️ Please react to the songs An American Trilogy,My way e IT'S OVER both from the show Aloha from Hawaii! Greetings and hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷🌹
Thanks for suggesting My way is over!!! The American Trilogy coming up soon. Make sure to turn on your notification bell to alert you when it's uploaded 👍🏽🎶
Beautiful reaction, you know what you are talking about. I'm a guitarist/singer and I understood what you were saying about certain ways he emphasized the lyrics. Would you react to memories from the 68 comeback special. I promise you will love it and I would love your opinion. It's such a beautiful song and the way he sings it is magical. To me, memories captures his voice in the most beautiful way. There are so many great songs by Elvis and this is definitely in the top ten.
Thank you for the compliment!!!! Memories is already on my list of Elvis reactions 💕💕💕. How is your singing and playing going?
He sang this song for his mother had said Sullivan they didn't want him the singers but he sang it anyway for his mother he had a brother that died at birth before he was born his mother always protected him because she was worried about losing Elvis throughout his life they loved each other very very much much
I'm glad he was born at the time he was born because if it's these days, when once they "feel offended", it leads straight to media bully and stupid boycout
Hey Christine I have good news for you lady. As good as Elvis was singing Rock and Popular music, it was his Gospel that won Grammy awards. This quartet behind him are "The Jordanairs" The male group that backed him during "How great thow Art" were called "JD.Sumner (bass singer ) and the Stamps quartet"
I'm going to leave you a couple of links you will find interesting with Elvis and the Stamps rehearsing. appreciate.
Hey PoboyNcoke💃💃💃💃💃. How have you been?
Thanks for the info. I thought J.D summer was a member of the stamps 🤷
Hey PoboyNcoke💃💃💃💃💃. How are you doing?
Thanks for the info. I thought J.D Summer was a member of the Stamps. 🤷
No the backup singers here are the Jordaniers. For his Vegas time vocals were done by The Imperials, after that it was JD Summer and The Stamps.... Love Elvis, if you want to hear a passionate song I suggest If I Can Dream, ( white suit version) Elvis was truly remarkable... I listen to him daily..
You have good taste for music surely to listen to him daily!!!💕💕💕💕💕💕
These are the Jordanaires. Later is JD Sumner and the Stamps Quartet.
i m sorry you tube makes so difficult, but you still do a great job you made a great point he interperts songs probable the best at it. I do not understand why people try come with negative toward elvis ( he does't do this or he can't do that !!!) he is maybe the greatest entertainer in my opinion. to my knowledge i don't thing frank sinatra, bing crosby, or dean martin wrote their songs and i am sure your favorite mario lannza didn't either but they all could sing and entertain. their are a lot of jealous people out there
My only consolation is that as the saying goes "there'll always be nay sayers". Even JESUS was criticized and still is.
To Me, he was a complete musician. Anyone that doesn't agree is free to have their own opinion👌🏽
The bass sounds the same as in "How Great Thou Art" (at least to my ears)!
You need to hear him do Little Sister
Thanks for the suggestion 🙏💞
Lovely Christine, again I usually explain something about Elvis.....you “get him” thank you! It is not the same backup singers. This is the jourdenaries and how great thy art are stamps. Also at the end of performance he says “ may god bless you as he has blessed me!” Very, very humble! Thank you again!
I was looking forward to the answer to the backups. Thanks a lot!!!💕💕💕. They weren't as strong technically as the stamps.
@@christineokosun Elvis would sneak in to tent revivals as a little boy just to hear JD Sumner sing. Elvis had such respect for JD Sumner he was like as a father figure to him.
@@christineokosun DJ was the bass singer from the stamps. He got the group together...that formed the stamps. he was in the Guinness world record for the lowest bass singer. Elvis loved his voice for sure! Background....Elvis looked up to JD when he was young at 15 years old! He always gave JD his spot light as he did others in his group of people with him in the show. Thank you again
. .he began his career in Vegas at the Hilton International, the hotel was built for him. .
he had his own private suite and while there were two shows per day, it would be late after the second show that he’d gather all of his backup singers to sing gospel in the suite ..it would last all night singing hymnals til 5 in the morning …this was a common practice ..
Did they ever rest I wonder. Regardless of what seems as if they never rested, I've NEVER read anywhere that they gave a poor perfomance. NEVER. This could steam from a genuine love for perfomance and not the money or fame. It's just pure love and team spirit filled with love for each other. Just my thoughts.
@@christineokosun . .absolutely correct in your observations . .he had a very hectic life which was split between road tours, the Vegas contract, home & family . .it meant everything to him to help as many as he possibly could, he could have engendered a sense of ‘time’s a running short’ and packed in as much as he could to help. ..most of his money was given to help others in one form or another but he never did any of it for the cash except in how he could spread the wealth to those in need. .no other person (at all) can make me cry instantly as he does but it could be that he’s a very special being . ✨.an Earth angel ?
@@MsBonijoni I believe so as well. I also consider him an angel on earth here who was very aware of his mission and time.
Elvis basically started with a base and another guitarist and that was it and he played guitar they got a drummer down the line after a while when he started doing a big show that he got hired for Elvis basically started it all when it came to opening doors for a lot of people
Did you know that Elvis' favorite music was Gospel.
in his younger days The voice wasn't as powerful as when he got older but the voice was much more flexible and well-rounded his voice got more powerful when he got older but flexibility and range much better in his younger days
Darker tone is expected as one grows older. As for flexibility and range, that depends a lot on technique - how much TA muscle was activated, how much support, what kind of support (vertical Appoggio or horizontal), etc.
Could you give this one a listen: “there’s always me” by Elvis (Audio). 🙏🏻
Thanks a lot for the suggestion. 💕💕💕
It’s true, Elvis’ gospel albums are only audio. My favourite Elvis albums are his gospel albums
@@jonathanaldecoa1099 Sometimes that's the best way to listen to Elvis....audio only, without the distraction of his good looks & performances.
there something to be said about keeping it short and sweet. We are not music students here. Keeping with the highlights of the performance would have impressed me more.
That's why it's written AS MUSIC TEACHER'S REACTION.
You should have listen to and reacted to the studio version, not the live version... It is so good... :-)
I wouldn't know which is better cos I prefer recording real time first reaction rather than sampling. That's why I ask for links cos that way, I get to react to the specific popular version.
If you look at his 1957 gospel album you will find many on there that are great examples of his voice versatility. Take my hand is a great song that only Elvis could pull off like this.
Thanks a lot for the suggestion 🙏. I've now ADDED TAKE MY HAND to my list of Elvis reactions 💕
Elvis sneak in of the backdoor, to hear JD sumner. And JD let him in .
When he was a boy
That's a lesson for me there. That singular act developed into a lasting friendship latter. The lesson for me is to be cautious about being so self absorbed and miss on the slightest opportunity to impact lives cos we don't know who's turn it will be tomorrow to be greater than we are today.
One of Elvis’ heroes is bass singer Jake Hess, from the Imperials among other Gospel groups.
Now I have to go listen to him!
Sally, Jake Hess wasn't a bass singer. He alternated between the baritone part and lead tenor.
I know you get a lot of request,, but if you like clarity, you might want to check out the Carpenters. Or Karen Carpenter. Very angelic voice.
I will check it out. Is it a group or a solo act?
Very few blues singers could compare with Elvis Presley.
FACTS 💯
The back-up singers on this performance were the Jordanaires.... I believe they we also the back up singer on his first two gospel Albums. "His Hand in Mine" and "How Great Thou Art".... In the live performance you reviewed (How Great Tour Art) , the back-up male singers were JD Sumner and the Stamps Quartet. The female singers were the Sweet Inspirations.
Hmmm interesting. I've never heard the album. I'm assuming you have. So tell me, compared with the live performance, how was the album of HOW great thou art with the Jordanaires? Cos I wasn't really feeling them like the way I did with the stamps. Just curious here please.
@@christineokosun This is the album version... czcams.com/video/YkJVQN9pK1k/video.html The groups Elvis used live during the 1970's and on latter recordings were award winning musicians in their own right and, as a result, may have been a bit superior.
@@liquid825 WOW!!!! Amazing!!!! They were really amazing!!!
My take is they were seasoned studio musicians. They thrived so well in the studio Cos they were used to hearing their sound- volume wise but in the live version that I did (Except it was remastered which I doubt), singing live, their projection wasn't fantastic compared to the Stamps.
Some singers are great in both worlds ( studio and live). Vocal projection-wise. Others thrive more in studio cos that's what they are used to and when it comes to live performance, projection isn't fantastic cos that's not their normal.
For singers with BIG voices, they would want to hold back their sound when doing studio recordings which could lead to Altering their normal singing technique. This becomes tricky when singing with a group cos you'll have a projected imagery of how you'll want the blend to sound like. If you are of two contrasting worlds aka studio rats VS live virtuoso, it would be evident. One would thrive while the other would be trying hard to contain his/her ordinarily big and free sound.
I'm sure the technology available then didn't give much room for several takes till it's perfect ( now a days they don't really do the work but rather can tweek everything by a botton). Like I was saying before I almost deviated, doing several takes would have been expensive or impossible so there wouldn't have been an opportunity to listen critically and adjust accordingly.
Elvis had to instinctively do some colouring to get a darker timbre cos he obviously had an imagery of what the whole picture should be like. The backup singers were absolutely amazing on their own but that's where the issue lies. When working together as a group, unity of goal, meaning the sound ( keenly listen to the contouring of the lead singer to guide your dynamics, volume, phrasing etc. They were on one side of the canvas and left the lead singer on his own with his own contours. Summary, with the Jordanaires. However great they were as a group, they seemed not to have team spirit when they backed up a soloist. I would love to hear them with other soloists ( be it vocal or instrumental to see how they fared).
Yes, I completely agree, Elvis’ gospel albums are excellent
In his early days (before he went into the Army), his backup singers were the Jordanaires, a Gospel quartet. In the latter portion of his career (say 1969 to 1977), his backup singers were comprised of The Stamps Quartet (J.D. Sumner's group), The Sweet Inspirations (the women who backed him up) and for a while, The Imperials Quartet. Of course, that doesn't include his band, the TCB Band and Joe Guercio and his orchestra.
Here's some of Elvis off stage, around the piano with the quartets, singing Gospel for relaxation. So this is not in front of an audience. This is what Elvis would do nearly every night after performing, to relax. czcams.com/video/NftMSX2XG78/video.html In that video, Richard Sturban is still part of the group. He would later leave to join The Oak Ridge Boys, but he's one of the deep, deep Bass voices along with J.D.
Here's another video from before a show where he sings a gospel song to warm up (this show took place near where I live now, though at that time I wasn't living here and at that time, I was only about 3 years old lol) czcams.com/video/7M--19n5kqA/video.html
Thanks a lot!!! I'm learning a lot from your comment. Did all these quartets back him up on stage together at a concert or he kept switching them depending on perhaps the show? Just wondering. I'm hearing about TCB band, Joe Guerico and his orchestra for the first time. Which of his performance had his band and who was Joe? I know google is supposed to be my friend but I love hearing from different sources cos not all narrations on Google could be accurate.
Thanks for the links💕💕💕💕
@@christineokosun The Imperials left sometime around 1971, The Stamps Quartet (J.D.'s group) joined him in 1971, so I believe they replaced the Imperials. Here's a couple of videos where he introduces his band, in the first (from 1970), he introduces the Imperials czcams.com/video/fgau2s8sREU/video.html This second one is from 1973, where he performed in Hawaii in the very first worldwide satellite broadcast where more people watched him, than watched the first moon landing in 1969 (my birth year). czcams.com/video/6RYEQeoWq0s/video.html
That first video shows his playfulness with the band and the audience.
The band was with Elvis for the final third of his career. His career can basically be split into three parts, the early days in the 50's, before going into the Army (he was drafted in 1957 and insisted on being just a regular soldier and not an 'entertainer soldier', he wanted to be 'just one of the guys' with no special treatment... his service was one of the factors that influenced my decision to join the Army in 1988). The second third of his career is after getting out of the Army and basically only making movies (1960 to 1969) and the final third is where he went back to live performances and making albums (non-movie related albums).
So when he went back to live performances (after his 1968 'comeback' special), he began forming his backup musicians. That's when he formed the TCB Band (TCB was Elvis' motto and stands for "Taking Care of Business", he had special necklaces made with that logo along with a lightning bolt and the full meaning was 'Taking Care of Business in a Flash'. So he named the band the TCB Band and it was the drummer, Guitar players and Bass Guitar player. They were with him from 1969 until he died in 1977, and they've continued to do live concerts with video footage of Elvis (I don't know if they still do that, because several of them have now passed away).
Joe Guercio and his Orchestra were also with Elvis from 1969 until his death. At Elvis' funeral, Joe was very emotional and conducted all of the music that was played/sung. He wanted to do that for Elvis one final time.
An interesting note about The Sweet Inspirations is that Whitney Houston's mother Cissy, was part of that group for a short time with Elvis. But she left to raise her family, and of course Whitney Houston herself, was exposed to Elvis for a while, when her mother was part of his backup ensemble.
In the 1950's and through his movie career, his backup singers were The Jordanaires, a gospel quartet (Elvis loved Gospel and Gospel Quartets), and his band was named 'The Blue Moon Boys' (because he had a few songs with "Blue Moon" in the title. That small band consisted of Scotty Moore on Guitar, Bill Black on stand up Bass (he passed away sometime in the mid 1960's, 1965 I believe) and D.J. Fontana on the drums.
Like others in your comments have said, I've watch a large number of reactors to Elvis' music, and I enjoy most if not all of them. But I find yours to be something a bit more special and meaningful. You're not just 'reacting' to his music, you're studying it and taking something away from it for your life, and that's what makes your Elvis reactions more meaningful and special (to us Elvis fans).
A word about the final year or two of his life/career. When you get to some of his 1977 concert footage, you'll see a very sharp change in his appearance. His health took a steep turn for the worse. His voice never failed him, but his body was. He was responsible for a good amount of that, if not all of it. So that 1977 footage is great to have, but at the same time, is painful for lifelong Elvis fans to watch and to see him that way. In many ways, a lot of us wish that it didn't exist. But at the same time, it's priceless to hear that magnificent voice.
One of the things that I did, after getting out of the Army and on my drive home from Texas to Virginia (probably about 1,500 to 2,000 miles total distance), was to stop in Memphis and visit Elvis' home and grave.
unfortunately, I couldn't take my video camera into his home, but I did get a little bit of video footage outside of it, if you're interested, here's that video: czcams.com/video/_mRiUuSIH68/video.html
I don't know if I've given you this link before or not, but this is a special documentary about his Gospel music and is excellent. I encourage you to watch it. Reacting to it may not be possible, but I'd love it if you could (if not in whole, then in parts) czcams.com/video/7ghThLhQNzQ/video.html
I hope this answered some of your questions, if not, please let me know and I'll be more than happy to try to answer.
You more than answered my questions!! 💞💞💞💞 You took me on a deeper journey into the man Elvis. Thank you!!!, 🙏🙏🙏🙏
One part I don't understand is why blame him for his health challenge except I didn't get you well. I learnt he was given meds by his doctor so that shouldn't be on him. The other question that I've always wondered about since I learnt he served in the army after gaining popularity is , is that supposed to even happen? Was it mandatory for all males back then or something ?
Thanks for your link to the tour of Graceland, 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏. Just imagining myself there, my feet would wobble with emotions cos I'll be crying my eyes out. Mortality can be painful at times like this. I can only imagine the ambiance there!!!! What a LEGEND!!!!
THANKS A QUADRILLION FOR YOUR TIME AND THE LINKS🙏🙏🙏🙏. GOD BLESS YOU!!! 💃💃💃💃💃
@@christineokosun I can't specifically blame him, but some of the responsibility does rest on him. Dependency on prescription drugs is a very real thing and is better understood today, then it was during Elvis' lifetime. But it was a very real thing then, as it is now and the doctors should still shoulder a lions share of the responsibility. But that shouldn't absolve a person of personal responsibility for what they put into their bodies. Don't misunderstand, though. I don't really 'blame' him, but do I acknowledge that he played a role in the events that ultimately helped take him from the world. His friends and family tried to get him to stop, but he couldn't and wouldn't. It's a sad story that every Elvis fan laments, and wishes that someone could have convinced him to stop.
As for military service, back then, the United States had a draft and if a mans draft number was called up, he'd have to go and serve (only men were subject to the draft). The draft was ended back in the 1970's. But even to this day, all men once they reach 18 have to register, in case a draft is ever needed again (only men, not women).
My father was called up for the draft on three separate occasions, but each time he was called in, he had too many children according to the law. Each year, they changed the law so that a man with one, then two, then three children could be drafted. But each time, my father had one 'too many' children. I was child #5 but by the time I was born, I think he was too old to be drafted.
For Elvis though, in 1958, his draft number was called so he had to go and serve. He likely could have been exempted for various reasons, but he didn't attempt to receive an exemption. Also, Generals offered him positions in the military's entertainment division, where he'd entertain the troops but Elvis didn't want any special treatment. He wanted to serve as a normal soldier and have no special treatment.
Here's a video with various footage of his induction and very early days in the Army czcams.com/video/eCmlRdr_HD8/video.html
On a personal note, I served at Fort Hood in Texas, which is one of the places where Elvis also served. While I was there, I went to an Enlisted club (a place for lower ranks to go for entertainment, without officers there). It was a club that it's said that Elvis gave the money for it to be built. He also donated all of his military pay to charity (he was already a millionaire so he didn't need the meager pay that the military provided).
This is the Jordanaires backing him
The Jordanaires backed him up in this song. They were also backing him up during the time he performed How Great Thou Art, along with another male gospel group called The Stamps. And in fact, it was a member of the Jordanaires who recommended that he sing How Great Thou Art.
Woow!!! I didn't know this!!! So they were 3 back ups quartet in how great thou art???? WOOOOOOW!!! NO WONDER IT WAS SO ELECTRIFYING AND POWERFUL WITH THE ORCHESTRA!!!!
@@christineokosun John gives you a bit wrong information... :-)
It is true that The Jordanaires still was with Elvis and was there when Elvis recorded his Grammy winning album "How Great Thou Art" in May 1966. But JD Sumner And The Stamps didn't start singing with Elvis yet, but the male gospel group The Imperials was present. And of course female singers Millie Kirkham (she was VERY good), June Page and Dolores Edgin.
I guess most of the gospel songs from 1957, 1960 (His Hand In Mine album), 1966 (How Great Thou Art album) and 1971 (He Touched Me album) and several other gospel songs done specially during the 70s sessions. Almost all recording sessions and concerts had at least one gospel song, as Help Me, Why Me Lord and other... like the live version of How Great Thou Art...
@
John O'Connor
It was The Imperials who backed Elvis in May 1966, along with The Jordanaires and three women backup singers. :-)
JD Sumner And The Stamps started singing with Elvis around 1972...
I’m not referring to the 1966 album, but the 1972 live performance that Christine recently reacted to. The Stamps were part of that live performance.
@@johnoconnor9343 Okey, but then you have wrong about The Jordanaires, because they were not there in 1972... :-)
How do we support your channel?? It's not in the description. Thank you.
Pardon me as I'm just seeing this. I have to create a patreon page for that. I've been told by some reactors to do that cos it will help me.
I would do a short video and put up a post on my community tab concerning this to see people's response. To know if my subscribers will be willing to support me cos so far, you are about the ONLY one who has mentioned this💞💞💞💞. Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
@@christineokosun I have supported other channels. That's why I ask you. 💞
He did this song to show he was not the bad evil person the parents of the mid fifties believed him to be.
It was the beginning of rock roll they thought he morally unfit banned his records would not show him from waist down because his dancing was considered too black. He broke a lot I boundaries for everyone.
What!!!!???? I'm just knowing all these now. Self righteous people have always existed though. Thanks for this info💕💕💕
There are better versions of this song, but this was live. And occurred after all the hoopla that stemmed from his previous performances, which back then were considered shocking and overly sexual due to his style of moving. He always said the movements came natural to him. And he came to learn real quick what it took to make the girls go crazy.
Songs to give a listen to -
It's Now or Never
Love Me
Don't
You Gave Me a Mountain (live)
It's Over
What Now My Love
American Trilogy
Polk Salad Annie (for the fun of it)
Hurt (the recorded version is best, imo, instead of the live)
There's many more. Enjoy!!! ✌️❤️😊
That part, "he came to learn real quick what it took to make the girls go crazy" 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for listing your suggestions out like you did💕💕💕💕. It's easy to read at a glance 💯👌🏽👋🏽👍🏽💞
His original band with three people a base another guitarist and Elvis no drums until Elvis got a drummer they met when he was at another concert and then Elvis hired a drama when he started at another venu
Little beginnings and then a great impact that still carries on years after he's gone. What a blessing!!!!!
They would have jordanaires
Could you please react to Elvis singing another gospel song IN MY FATHER'S HOUSE which has JD Sumner and The Stamps Quartet also AN EVENING PRAYER. Thanks
I would love too!!!! Thank you for the suggestions🙏💕💕💕
What did you think about the rest of the song?
He wanted to share his love for GOD and the perfect way of escape from all the troubles in this world. Especially in this crazy times that we are, there'll indeed be peace in the Valley. Just walk in the light of GOD'S word like he did💕💕💕💕. That's my take. What about you? How did this song touch you?
These guys were The Jordanaires. The guys in the 70s were The Imperials.
Thanks a lot!
Is Tom Hanks not a complete actor because he doesnt write his own scripts???? 🤔
EXACTLY!!! I wish i thought of it like this!!!! Permission to use this whenever i see sour comments regarding him not being a total musician cos he didn't write his own songs.
@@christineokosun permission given 😉
Thank you!!!
Amen to that
PLease don't interrupt the song during the song. Wait until the end of the song is finished.
Elvis insisted on singing this gospel song dedicated to his loving mother and when Ed Sullivan introduces the song he wanted us to know he did'nt approve
Thank GOD Elvis didn't let that man's opinion deter him!!! This goes to show that oppositions are sometimes good cos they will form part of your ground breaking stories of your victory!!!!
@@christineokosun He Touched Me is a beautiful Elvis gospel song- you will love it czcams.com/video/96gOjU54YOs/video.html
@@joeraytony thank you for the suggestion and link 💞💞
That’s true, Elvis was very insistent singing his gospel songs when he could
Ed Sullivan actually suggested that Elvis sing Peace in the Valley. There is a letter from him to that effect in the Graceland archives.
Elvis said God made two mistakes when He made him. He didn’t make him black and He didn’t make him a bass singer!
Haha. He clearly loves the low notes and did love black people without prejudice!! RESPECT ❤️
God doesn’t make mistakes, he knew what he was doing ❤️
TRIVIA For you ... There is only one time ELVIS walked out of a recording session, 'it was for the song ''Old Mac Donald from the movie ''Double Trouble '' he hated recording it ,and just walked out of the Recording stage at MGM studios , the master take is a splice of segments he did manage to record partly the day before , what a mess that session was ...lets hope you decide Not to react to Old MacDonald
🤣🤣🤣. If he hated it then it was good he walked away. I'm wondering why he hated it. Do you know the full story behind all that?
@@christineokosun here is most of the reason in a nutshell version,,, ''Recording "Old McDonald" for the 'Double Trouble" soundtrack, the circumstances weren't very good for Elvis. There wasn't enough good material and the session was rescheduled to MGM soundstage in Culver City ,Ca after Elvis showed up late for the original session at Radio Recorders on Santa Monica blvd in Hollywood the day before .. Being forced to record "Old MacDonald" was the final indignity for Elvis ,according to Ernst Jorgensen in his book "A Life In Music". Elvis walked out of the session, leaving the movie company with an incomplete seventh take to splice as the master. Elvis felt it was a low point in his recording career to record this kiddie's song ..and i agree Christine , Alvin and the Chipmunks(aka Ross Bagdasarian known professionally by his stage name David Seville, recorded it years earlier ..it should have been left there .
Good !!! I love that!!! Thanks for shedding more light!!! . Since everything is by electronic, let me gift you with these E-bottle of Champagne 🍾🍾🍾🍾 and a heart❤

You talk too much!
Will you bloody stop playing it for 2 seconds and then stopping and yakking for 5 minutes
Kudos to your knowledge but it's a reaction to Elvis and not a complete singing lesson for your students. At least let us listen and then start your reaction. I was falling to sleep.
