Great DIY tutorial on such a great piece of mobile workout equipment! Thanks 🙏
Thank you, sandbag getups are my favorite exercise. Thanks for watching
Thanks for this video. It is a genius idea! I'm going to Home Depot as soon as they open in the morning to do this.
Very cool! Thanks for watching.
Awesome idea. You just saved me some bucks!!! Thanks!!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Amazing dude, budget friendly!
Thanks! And Thanks for watching. I use my sandbags everyday.
The handles are a brilliant idea. Thank you.
Thanks! Glad you like the handles. Thanks for watching!
Good video man. Since the gyms are closed due to covid, I was looking into home workout alternatives. The price of the commercial sandbags are a little ridiculous. I'm gonna try this tomorrow.
Thanks, mine are still working out well. My kids starting using them too. I just posted a DIY plyo box video, another great home gym training device. Thanks for watching.
Great minds think alike, I already have most of the supplies at home, I’m gonna try it tomorrow as well
Same!
How did your build out go?
Outside Chronicles pretty good, I used a couple midsize zip lock bags, wrapped them in duck tape and put them in a small duffel bag that already had handles on it. It’s making me feel like I’m finally getting a good workout at home
Dude, I'm definitely doing this today.
Testosterooster you will love it, it’s super easy and really gives you a different workout since it is not solid. Love to know how it turns out.
Nice kengan profile pic
This pretty darn good....im gonna do one as demo
Cool, you'll have to let me know how it works for you.
AWSEOME WORK MAN!!
Thanks!
God Bless you bro for this phenomenal video 💯🥇🙏🏾
Thanks man, good luck with the sandbag. Get-ups are an amazing workout.
@@OutsideChronicles 🙏🏾🥇💯🏆🏅 deepest respects Sir. Will do now; Thanks to you. 🙂
TOTALLY doing this tomaro!!!
Good luck and good workouts!
Awesome! Also if you weren't super concerned about weight and size. You could just wrap the pea gravel bags themselves.
Right, good suggestion, I do not see why not. They come in a pretty heavy duty bag.
You sir, are a genius!
Far from it, but thanks for the nice comment. Thanks for watching, happy sandbagging!
Good video, gonna make 2 for our home gym
Have fun! They are a good workout tool, so many way to use it.
It's pretty awesome if you are mostly going to do a sandbag carry
thank you Sir, great Video
Thanks for watching!
Nice
I would have made a fast motion vid on you making that just so we can see how. But great vid!! THANKYOU
Thanks for watching. Wrapping the the bag is not too scientific, but I like your idea for my next video. I regret not showing how to make the handles. Check the comments, I gave a detailed explanation. Good luck, and good work!
Like #580! Thanks I wanted to find a better way than paying $90/45lb plate to weigh my boxing heavy bag stand down.
Justin Chan awesome! Glad it helped out. Thanks for watching!
If you have a duffel bag you could just make some little bags to fill the duffel or backpack or whatever.
I have seen that method too. Same thing, just with shopping bags and duct tape. You can adjust the weight then.
@@OutsideChronicles I plan on doing this type of training long term. I ordered a rep fitness 25 - 75 pound bag. I want all those handles. Only 50 bucks and 8 bucks worth of sand.
HELL YES!
Love it!
Awesome
Thanks, and thanks for watching!
Go to a tire shop. They give away inner tubes for free. About 10 bucks for a few good hose clamps.
💯
🔥
🤘
I’m about to make some today! Was going to shell the money out but this will be a fun project!
Gregory Reyes cool! It’s a great workout tool. Let me know it works out. Thanks for watching!
Awesome! Thank you. Doing this on Saturday. So the handles folded into each other sticky side in making a strap a little longer than the circumference of the bag, then taped in?
Very cool, thanks for watching. Check out my plyo box if you need another project for a good home workout.
Correct, the strap goes around the circumference. I wrapped them kind of like a hockey stick, then overlapped the ends a little bit. Then wrap them in with a layer of tape. Where your hands go, I criss crossed some pieces like 6” long. Make sense?
@@OutsideChronicles perfect. Thank you
@@OutsideChronicles Made my first one today. Came out a little round but that's okay. Did about 60 lbs. Anyone reading this if I may recommend don't cheap out on trash bags. I used regular ones and it started tearing and I had to be very careful taping it. Got through it though.
Joseph nice, yeah the 5 mil bags are key. It might flatten over time.
I'm going to make this but see if i can use some old belts from like good will or something for handles
That would work!
I got some already made online from a fabric store $14 for 4 and each one holds 70 lbs
Why not just put the entire bag inside the bag and roll it up?
The 5mil garbage bag won't be durable enough. There are some suggestions to use a tire tube and clamps. The duct tape makes it so you can throw it around a bit.
@@OutsideChronicles I think he means the bag of pebbles. Why open them instead of putting the whole bag in the trash bag.
It cost 100+$ for this. Since, gym is closed, this is gonna be my go-to weight-lifting. Thank you 😊
I just made this but the handles are not working out for me. Any suggestions? They seem to flimsy to do over head presses and stuff
Nate, did you double up the duct tape (putting the sticky sides together) and then wrap around the whole bag? I then crisscrossed duct tape inside and outside where the handle creates space for your hands. If that still seems to be not enough, then I would suggest going to gorilla tape.
Outside Chronicles did not go the entire way around! Thanks I’ll try that
The only other thing you could use is some nylon webbing. It is pretty cheap.
👍
How much duct tape did you use per bag? One roll per bag? My friend and I are gonna make some tomorrow
Good question, it was about 1.5 rolls total for the two bags (I have about half left in my garage) . The 60# bag used more of course. I figured on using both rolls, but it was not necessary. I made sure there was 2-3 layers covering the surface. Of course, it won't hurt to put more. I used the standard 3M rolls found at Lowes, 2-pack.
Most important part of the video is missing... The handles!! Btw great video :-)
Sorry about that, there are a few comments below where I gave a better explanation. I just pinned that comment to the top. I am happy to answer any questions.
Please make a video showing the handles
Can you describe/show how to make the handles again? Kinda confusing
Sure, what you want to do is take a length of duct tape that can go around the circumference of the sandbag twice (ideally it should be a little more than twice). Then fold that in half so the sticky sides come together. You should be left with a length of duct tape that is doubled up, that can go all the way around the bag and overlap a little bit. Next, wrap that length like a candy cane with tape, this will reinforce it. Finally, put this reinforced length of tape around the circumference of the bag, overlapping a little and tape it in. Make sure you leave room to put your hands through. Hope this makes sense.
I believe I got it, you lost me after the candy cane part though...
So I have the roll of duck tape that can go over the sand bag little more than twice, I fold it in half so the stick sides are adhered (no sticky parts at all-the whole tape is the smoothed back side). Wrap that once around the sand bag, with the lip overlapping a bit and then take another roll of tape over the lip/overlap and go around it another time to adhere it down?
Is the grip going to hold up over time? I’m thinking about putting some somewhat soft styrofoam like padding to make the handgrip
@@kevinmai4015 That is the candy cane part (or barbershop pole). Maybe wrapping like a hockey stick grip or baseball bat grip is a better analogy. This has held up from me.
Thank you for pinning the comment. I don’t think I ended up doing it right lol, the sand bad caves in and creates more of a gap/space between the bag when I lift it (I didn’t tighten the tape too much when taping the bag). Wasn’t sure how you candy cane taped the handles down...
Would it be possible to use cat litter?
Johnstamos Yeastinfection I do not see why not, it just might not be as heavy demo ending in the weight you need.
do you think they will survive throwing them over your shoulder?
Over your shoulder to the floor? I throw mine from my shoulder to the floor in front of me. Worst case, double up the duct tape. I think they would definitely take the abuse.
How did the sandbags hold up? I am looking to do something similar as well!
How long did the handles last?
Depends on how you use them. I have had to re-tape mine a few times. A strap would be a bit more durable.
I wonder if you could tape rope around as straps? Time to start playing around myself..thank for the video!
$50-60 - God I wish, most bags that can fill up to 120lbs easily go over $100.
Any reason for pea gravel instead of play sand?
No real reason. I think next time I would use sand from the beach. It is slightly heavier per square unit.
Mercedes AMG found this useful.
Excellent! They actually want to charge me 75 online
These DIY ones have served me well for several years.
I just bought one online for $10. Took me 5 minutes
How was the quality of it though
i think i get the candy cane part but you made the video too short transitioning from the empty bag tothe finish product lol
Sorry for rushing through that part. Do your best to wrap the heck out of the 5mil bag. Thanks for watching
@@OutsideChronicles hey i did it! i made a 66pound sandbag,i think i think I tightened it too much because its kind stiff but it end up amazing! and i think that i understand the concept of the grips, super cheap equipment!
@@LatinMagician7850 Hardcore! It may loosen up after some use. Good luck with your fitness. Check out sandbag get ups, can't be beat for a full body workout.
@@OutsideChronicles i used like 200meters of tape and 5 garbage bags for the sandbag it will last a while i think!
man bro I wish you showed the handles.
Sorry, if you look through the comments, I attempted to explain how I did it.
You could do this without all the duct tape if you have a backpack or other bag youre not using, just double bag it make sure its not and tied then throw it in a backpack
Great suggestion, thanks for watching. The thing I like about the duct tape is it stays conformed to the size you initially wrap it. I tried a duffle and it felt sloppy. Maybe with a tight fitting bag it might be different.
Wouldn't play sand have been cheaper???
Might be. I did not check the density between the two. You may need more or less depending on the weight you hope to make. And if you live next to a big lake like I do, I get sand for free. No reason you could not use sand. Thanks for the comment and watching!
@@OutsideChronicles 50 lbs of sand for me was less than $5 USD, and i filled my bag with 25 lbs to start
Drus718 Cool, glad it worked! Get to the sandbag getups!
I just don’t see that lasting you would be better off sewing a bag imo
