I think certain behaviors that were taken for granted back in my day are no longer taught. Simple things like not entering an auditorium when a play or musical score is happening was just understandable and expected back in the day. It’s very likely the person in charge of the performances that day has no idea he/she was being disrespectful. This is not to excuse the behavior but only to offer one other possible explanation.

Sport goes back quite a few millennia, it’s surrounded by pageantry and was a primary source of entertainment for the populace.
Rulers, governments and people with wealth and power would use sport as an opportunity to put on a display to awe the population as well as any diplomats, visiting rulers, people of influence, etc…

Please excuse the NFL who should know no one should be on the field during the silent drill or until the Marines exit as a sign of respect. Their years of woke-ism must have made them loose their sense of timing. The reason the NFL has the Freedom and Liberty to hold a game in a massive stadium free of conflict is because of a soldier. We sleep in a war bed at night thanks to a soldier. Every freedom we have is because of a soldier and every citizen and organization needs to always be mindful of that and honor and respect that fact alone.

If I was a player on one of these teams I would have voiced my disapproval of these disrespectful actions and would have refused to be on the field and damned the cost. It wasn't a hero contest. It was a football game. Obviously the Marines are the public and popular heroes, and the Football players pursue the professional game of football.
Were the grounds organised by Football, or the Marines? Maybe the were contractual arrangements, like advertising time and satellite hire that were going to blow the budget, for the football administration.
OK, get the Marines to organize /underwrite the football grounds, satellites, and advertising penalties for not delivering contractual obligations.....

I felt it was extremely rude of the players, and whoever was in charge of the stadium, to not be respectful enough to let them finish. Recently I saw a baseball game for children. At the beginning they announced they wouldn’t play the National Anthem. This did not go over well. God bless the fans that sang the anthem and showed our patriotism and respect for our flag. If you pay their financial penalties for being late for starting the football game, I'm sure that they would help out. And be happy for the wonderful drill display, continue past deadline, for an extra 30 to 60 seconds.

      Lets see.....
TV network transmission delayed (a slot in a pre-booked system)

My ex was a marine that served in a silent drill in college that was graded by the marines. I got to know them thru this. People don’t realize the difficult level because of the weight of the guns to have that level of sharpness, accuracy and timing.

tbf it could've been an innocent but very unfortunate miscommunication, too.
stuff happens sometimes. ran into it back in high school marching band a couple times during half time performances. one time the other team was stopped before they entered the field, one time they got stopped after (and started to get in our way a bit). also once had a band at a competition move to set up a shade too early as well, right after we finished but before we could leave the field.
in jrotc i've been in a drill competition where one group was incorrectly told they could enter through a passageway, and it almost mucked with our routine (it was a small room, tbf).
i've also helped run multiple years of a local special olympics, and one year the parents ran onto the field when they were never supposed to be allowed entry, after a miscommunication.

I also agree with you about the importance of respect to the military drill team. I was in the military for 12yrs, when I was in my first enlistment I was part of the base color guard, which doesn't do anything like these guys do. We marched in parades, carrying flags, and performed 21 gun solutes and funeral honors. But it was volunteer, all practice done on our own time, which wasn't easy when we had Carrier Air Wings onboard and they're flying 24hours around the clock. I worked in ordnance, and those squadrons doing as much flying, night and day ops as possible for that week or 2 they were there. It takes a lot of discipline and practice to look as good as these Marines look. Very impressive.

I'm an Army vet. The upside down V on their shoulders, the chevrons, indicate their rank, which also can indicate how long they've been in the Marines. Most of them were privates and corporals, meaning they've only been in the Marines for a few years. These aren't old soldiers who have done this for decades. These are young (very young by the looks of it) Marines who have spent months doing almost nothing else but practice, practice, practice. I am in awe!

      @Tyrannosaurus_STFU_III Před měsícem +17

Good try, not really completely accurate.
There are no privates out there. Everyone is at minimum a Lance Corporal (e-3) that's 1 chevron and crossed rifles underneath. 2 chevrons indicates a Corporal which is a NCO.
The chevrons aren't upside down. You have the chevron and crossed rifles until Staff NCO which is E-6. Then you get a rocker underneath the chevrons from that point on when you make rank.
The hash marks on the sleeve near the wrist indicate 4 years of service per hash.
Those are all very young Marines. That's what's so impressive.
