Today is the anniversary of a large tornado that hit our town in 1995. 29 years ago and people can still tell you about that day. In May of 77, my family was in a storm shelter and the door was ripped off as the tornado went over. We were in tornado ally, but it seems to have moved east as our severe storms have lessened and others have gotten more extreme.

Where are you from? Curious … accent sounds like Russian or something but then again I only know New York accents and Italian. But yes storm chasing is a huge thing … some people like it for the spectacle of it all and others do it for science to better understand how these monsters form and how to protect these people who LIVE in areas where the happen often or even could happen.

Also I was driving in my state of Florida when I was 25 and hit a bear. Didn’t kill it because I saw it walk off and climb a wall but in Florida there is a different opinion each year, should we allow a bear hunt this year or not? Reports this year are bears appearing in downtown Orlando. They’re very innocent but old women like to give them biscuits. And then when the bears get comfortable with that they come for more biscuits. Old women gets cornered in her garage and gets attacked. Happens literally every year here. Bears are not pets they are predators. Sad thing here in central Florida is that the bear population is growing because we have made them an endangered species but every month there are stories of cars killing bears on rural roads now. They are having babies but there is no where for them to go.

Today is the anniversary of the 1966 Topeka (Kansas) F5 tornado. The channel “Carly Anna WX” just did a video about that tornado less than 2 weeks ago; the title is “Anatomy of a Disaster: The 1966 Topeka F5 Tornado”

I’ve never wanted to visit the Grand Canyon, because if I didn’t get to spend at least a month there it would feel like a wasted trip. Going for a week might suffice, but I’d want to ride a horse down into the canyon and keep moving camp so I could see some of the natural monuments up close (there are businesses that do that). I could afford to do that, but have never found anyone who would ride a horse around the block. I feel the same about museums like the Louvre and Hermitage, as well as the big ones in London: what’s the point of going for the day, when it takes WEEKS to look at enough to make it worth my while??

I live in indiana we get tornadoes all times of the year, the problem is most here are between 9pm to 3am overnight, luckily where i live is pretty remote and we get missed from the ones that come through, plenty of close calls but its been getting closer each year. i had family in the moore oklahoma tornadoes and the mayfield tornado, and worked with someone who had close friends die in that tornado which she wouldve been killed too if she didnt relocate 6 months earlier. The worst time here for tornadoes ive been seeing a lot in the last decade is Nov - Feb basically between the fall and winter and over night. but it can happen randomly at any time of the year, we get all the seasons weather wise, so at any point it can go from 35 degrees to 75 degrees in the same week and that usually is a deadly combo, but the worst is the fact its overnight here almost always. Thankfully technology with cell phones will go nuts and wake you if a tornado warning happens, so thats made it better considering the closest siren i cant personally hear in my home, especially sleeping. In the last 2 months we have had 7 tornado warnings, which 6 were overnight, and 4 came close to my home, they werent very strong and werent long tracked but it isnt fun being woke up and having to get underground quick especially when its never hitting your house, but one time you dont heed it, you can be a statistic, for me the nocturnal tornadoes are the worst to deal with, then again i havent been in an ef5 or ef4 thankfully.

I lived here 65 years and yes The Grand canyon is absolutely beautiful but if you got good stamina then hick to the bottom and stay at phantom ranch you will feel like you went back in time 500 years. It takes me and my wife 9 hours non stop but some people can do it in less time. If you want a phantom ranch t shirt then you have to go to the bottom . They will not sell them on the top. Millions of people go but 1 in 10,000 will go to the bottom.

Ehh gators aren’t that bad. I live in Florida and wakeboard most days. I literally just had to hop over a gator yesterday (while on my board). They’re more scared of us. Only time you don’t mess with them is April to June. They’re literally dinosaurs and they’re cold blooded. Late spring is their matting season and they’re damn aggressive. I live in Dixie Alley. I remember this well. A EF3, EF4, or EF5 will tear down any house you can build. If it’s a direct hit, a 3 tears your house down with maybe parts of a wall or two sticking up. A 4 leaves your house in twisted rubble on the concrete slab. A 5 doesn’t leave anything on the slab, and sometimes doesn’t even leave the slab. It’s not better to have brick, like some Europeans think, they fall down too. In fact some people say it’s better not to have brick, because it’s more likely to kill you when it falls on you. The only way to survive an EF4 or EF5 other than sheer luck, is to be underground. And with an EF5 that’s not guaranteed either. It can just take off the floor above you and pull you right out. I would want to be in an old fashioned root cellar if I could, and hope I had plenty of luck saved up.❤️🐝🤗

2024 is turning out to be a bad year for tornadoes too. We had a “small” EF 1 in February in my hometown which was really early for our “tornado season”. I’m in northeastern Illinois.

I live on the Hamptons, Long Island New York….. my dad had an aunt and uncle that lived in Joplin ….. we just happened to be visiting when that tornado hit. Again I’m a Long Island girly we don’t have that type of weather out here …. That was BY FAR the scariest shit I have ever been through in my entire life. It’s been 13 years now since it happened and I can still tell you exactly what I was wearing, everything we did that day, the way it felt as the storm was coming in… the way I immediately panicked as soon as the news said tornado but no one else seemed to think twice until the woman on the news started to get that panic in her voice …. I can tell you exactly how it felt running down into the dark creepy basement … the sound of the house being ripped apart yet almost imploding at the same time … the way it felt being hit by the debris flying around … the way it made my whole head feel like it was going to also implode and the way it was hard to breathe like it was sucking the breath from your lungs …yet I was still able to scream begging god to not let me die in this god forsaken state 😂 …. After and we all were good safe only a few cuts and bruises, I remember exactly the way it smelled it was a mix of death and dirt and pine ….. I remember being shocked how you could literally see for what seemed like 100 miles everywhere you looked …. The fact that there was NOTHING left, my aunt lived in one of the places it was at full strength … the pictures do not do that aftermath justice. One thing I will also never forget was just how these people literally just lost everything … their homes, cars, belongings and some even lost loved ones and yet they seemingly just dusted themselves off and would go and help the next person. That was also my first time seeing dead bodies so soon after dying….. that’s etched in my memory forever…. But it really reminded me of (or what I can remember) of how American but specifically New York was September 12 2001 … I was only 8 but I remember that nothing mattered except getting each other threw that tragedy… that’s how it was in Joplin. These people are pretty damn incredible….. I never even wanted to go out to Missouri … especially in may but my great aunt was like oh please you have a better chance of your plane crashing! So my dad suckered me and one of my sisters to go out there to visit and help move her …. Needless to say I also didn’t want to go on a plane after that either. And it would be just my luck that I didn’t want to go out there especially in the spring … I was afraid of being hit by a damn tornado …. I didn’t expect that it would be an f5 and would take that part of the town with it. The best thing that came out of that whole experience was that I knew exactly what field of medicine I wanted to go into after that …. And here we are 13 years later and I am an intensivist….. I was 18 almost 19 when that happened…. I just got finished with my first year of college and I was 100% sure I wanted to go into pediatrics…. After being there to experience Joplin I wanted to be the one who took care of the critically ill/sick.

I suggest you react to the Greenfield, Iowa tornado from earlier this year. Reed Timmer captured some mesmerising footage of the multiple vortices of this tornado. I watched it happen live, on Ryan Hall Y'all's livestream, and it is an absolute monster.

The USA National Antham is based on an ACTUAL BATTLE DURING the American Revolution it was about americans in a fort, NOT SURRENDERING to the British. America’s founders explicitly prohibited religion in government (see the first amendment). Read any semi-objective biography of any founder (e.g. Washington by Chernow, Benjamin Franklin by Isaacson, Thomas Jefferson by Meacham), and see they were either atheist at best or deist at worst. They were men of the Enlightenment guided by reason whose morality was rooted in reality, it was of this world not the “next”, which led them to fight passionately for a government that would explicitly protect individual rights, including their own. The female narrator got it right when she said an empire’s fall is preceded by moral strife, and people in America don’t know what they stand for today. Most people in America have forgotten or never even learned the morality America was actually founded on. As a result of moral decay, many people have lost the will not just to fight but to even value their own lives. Today, in America, we have inherited the benefits created by those from the past who knew what they stood for and had the will to fight for it. They didn’t fight from a sense of religious duty (or any duty). They fought because they absolutely believed in the morality of their cause: to eradicate tyranny by liberating the individual from external oppression. If moral strife leads to decay, then the opposite is true as well. Moral certainty leads to progress. If America truly got back to its roots, morality and certainty would flourish here again. As a result, religion would fade and political divisions would become nonexistent. With America as a beacon of indisputable morality, international peace would be the norm again. No tyrannical nation would have the moral certainty, or the resources - because moral strife leads to decay - to oppose the nation that unapologetically protects individual rights. 19:42 part of it is for the selfish reason of someAmericans not wanting to change the flag, but another part is racism and greed for power. If Puerto Rico becomes a state then more than likely it would be Democratic (that's what the Republican side thinks) and the Republican side wouldn't like that. The other part is if it's a democratic State as well the republicans will more than likely lose their stake or have less of an upper hand. I think the same may be true of Washington dc. After everything the Republicans have done to the citizens there, they're pretty sure that there's a good chance that the citizens of Washington DC will be against Republicans as well.
