- This car stopped me and my friend Sean Smith dead in our tracks at SEMA 2019 in the Toyo Treadpass. It's that good. In a sea of amazing custom cars this one was and is a stand out build. And the owner, builder couldn't be a cooler guy and not a builder by profession. He's a video game creator!
This build is going to blow you away so sit back and enjoy...

What wheels are those ?
Shawn, where can I apply to have a job like your job?
Tom Simi BWA HA HA HA
EXACTLY RIGHT..!
Windsor block 1000hp easy forget GM sucks in a nice Mustang.
always since i was a kid love the road course look never get tired of widebody ground effects
Shaggy really knows his stuff
He's Using 20% of his power for this build, needs a 1000hp
Plenty of scooby snacks
fun how its not racist if it white guy character
🤣🤣🤣 shaggy, this comment made my day
@@papaannefranku9693 tough guy
What's amazing is his talent, he did all this in his garage, love the color green.
My fav color: GREEN
british racing green inspired by old racing porsches. Just perfect
This is the epitome hot rodding. A guy hammering away in a single car garage with some average tools, teaching himself along the way. Add some imagination, a dream and dedication and you've reached the level the big shops strive for and sometimes miss. This guy's program is solid.
Hot rodding is a science in itself.
Shawn I really enjoy your hosting style, you don’t over talk the owner, I feel like you let the owner talk like he is showing his buddy his ride!
And this mustang is awesome!
I like when he said .. " I didn't care about what anybody thinks" guy has talent, those who hate just don't have a car car like his! Lol
Or don't want. har har *cough* *wheeze*
Bad ass.
Translation. As you can see by his place he had a lot of random stuff laying around....
@@markperry3517 j wouldnt want this bad ass fast car that can handle. U know u lieing
Gotta be my new favorite mustang build of all time
EAT IT RING BROS...!!! IN YOUR FACE FOOSE...!!!
It’s cool but the ls just kills it man
I agree
The nightmate mustang
You have to respect a guy that can put something like this Mustang together on his own. One detail I really like is the cold air intake through the grill-scoops on the front corners. FINALLY, they're functional, after 40 years!! ;^)
I agree, it only makes sense that thye should work!
Uhm ,.. guys been doing this since the 70s
@@TheLexiconDevils probably but i haven't seen anyone do it in a pro touring build like this.
@@jrpalm1948 This is NOT Pro Touring..is he's touring the track?
yes, but he made those rear nonfunctional 69 style that are there just for looks...
This is one of the sickest builds of any builder I've ever seen. Im in love with this car
The quality and craftsmanship in these cars are mind blowing.
Chris Ashton Is an epitome of true automotive craftsmanship. The body work on the mustang is absolutely beautiful. The fact that he actually used steel and welding to make HIS version of a wide body car is superb. I’m pleased to know that he didn’t go the typical-lazy bolt-on/drill fiber glass way.
Never been a Ford man but the 70 Mustang is definitely my favorite and this gentleman built a badass one. He said it perfectly ..." I didn't know it was going to turn out this good I just kept going after what I wanted ".... a true creative builder !
He’s such a talented creative guy!!
Man I gotta admit. This is one of my favourite cars I’ve ever seen in my whole life. This car has so much personal taste and style. The more I watched the more I liked.
Absolutely SICK!!!! Built-in his garage, that's just dope!!
Over 4 years working on my car. Watching this guyon your channel inspires me not to give up. "Rome wasn't built in a day, and my sn95 wasn't neither."
Never seen an intake quite like that b4, quite a statement piece! Awesome Mustang, although I am not entirely a purist, I would have like to have seen a Ford Motor in the engine bay. Regardless, still a beautiful car.
Shaggy: Drives round a corner.
Bald surfie from Cali. You can really drive dude. You can tell you’ve been performance driving for years.
Shaggy. Shucks 🤓
Widebody Mustang never looked so sick!!! I want a resto-mod like this!
man this is amazing content and an excellent owner
One thing is for sure, when the car sounds that good you don't need a radio.
I could listen to that all day!!!
I don't ever really comment, but this Mustang was really inspirational. Such a great vision brung to life by a hotrodder. Just what I needed to get my depressed, quarantined butt in the garage and work on mine. Great job and thank you for the great interview/ camera work Autotopia.
Thanks for appreciating what this is. Staggering build and incredibly cool smart guy
Mustang really is the most beautiful Muscle car to me. Great job on this one!
I always appreciate the quality of elegance beauty and safety
Loved the video. the car is sick, Chris did a fantastic job. he clearly has a talent for building awesome cars.
Good story....a lot of innovation. I'm not a wide-body freak but it is functional for what he's doing. The LS doesn't bother me at all and I'm a Ford guy.
It is a badass job dude love it looks really cool or any of them cars are self thanks again buddy this world is full of talented talented people and he's one
Stock door handles, roll up windows, wood steering wheel. Garage built by owner. Brings me back to the 70s. Love it.
Wow hands down badass. Amazing workmanship. I wish this guy was my neighbor just to see and hear that beautiful sound everyday.
Ohhh 😮 my gosh!!!!! Just when we thought we saw our favorite car Shawn just keep giving us more
That LS with a Holley Carb is DIALED in!
Why would someone want to put a carb on an LS?
Robert Why would someone put a LS in a Mustang?
🤷🏽♂️
@@mancubzavala865289 LS engines are the best by far. Ford has no worthy competitor.
@Grumpy468 Get off the crack, and keep telling yourself that, chebbie boy. It's rotted your brain! Oh, I get it! Just like a chebbie..
Why you here on the Ford? Oh yeah, chasing them for over 50 years, imitating not originating.
One of the best cars at SEMA and the the fact its homebuilt puts it over the top! Great build. So much respect for Chris in bringing this creation to life with his own hands and not being afraid to to try new things. Love this car, can't wait to see what he does next!
Love it, this is how the cars should be made, by a man for himself. Then you can name a car and give it a soul.
Much greater respect to this dude than to any other car made by a custom shop.
Mannnn I agree 100%
Didnt like the LS Swap(why? 12:46 hahaha, just kidding), but the rest of it is incredible, fantastic job! Much respect.
I had my doubts by the thumbnail but the owner/builder is awesome, built in his garage, and the fact that car us bad ass. I too have a thing for the trans am style race cars lol.
This car should be named "Ruffian , body of a stallion, heart of a beast"! Great work!
He built such a unique creative car and all in that little garage! Awesome
I would never expect someone who looks like a Woodstock hippie to have built and drive this incredible looking car. Now if I could only win the lottery to him to help Mr make one for myself.
Wow. This guy did a killer job with this build! Impressive
It’s always nice to see a beautiful Mustang. Great build, great video!
Chris & Shawn - thanks for giving all of us little guys with big dreams a whole bunch of hope!
Chris, loved that you made racing and practicality central to your approach - such an admirable result. Respect for your smart approach to the flares, door panels & TIG welding - such courage!
Shawn, great that you spent with Chris @ SEMA and then time to create such inspirational as well as enjoyable content - a wonderful choice!
Also loved the undetected illegal 1” ‘slope’ and cried at the 2” bust - very cheeky!
Glad I could find a way to share. Am blown away by all the positive response. Thank you
Chris - just hope you’re as blown away as we are at your achievement! Your project brought many happy memories for me...
FYI, I’m in east London, UK and a little older than you (and Shawn?!). As an exchange student, my first visit to US in ‘78 for 6 months included the goal of buying & driving a Mustang Fastback! Within 2 weeks I found a 1-owner ‘70 Fastback 302 3-speed auto in bright orange and had the time of my my life exceeding all of my expectations! Like you, I had a racing background, but in karts. My ‘72-‘76 project was to build my BMiniW Isetta - my kart for the road @ 44” track & 54” wheelbase!
Even @ 118k mi, my Mustang would wheelspin thro’ 2nd gear in a straight line, drift around cloverleaf slips on & off local roads - both in the dry. I’m afraid I made a bit of a nuisance of myself, but no tickets...
@@jeffreynolds3848 awesome. Thanks for that. :)
Chris 👍
he could have dropped a 351 based ford 427 in that easy ,but its his car and very bad ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such a badass Stang SWEEEEEET!😎
👍 Seal of approval
This is the video I've been waiting all my life!!!, his Mustang is almost the same as my own idea for mt Mustang
Man I wish i had the knowledge, time, money and patience to refurbish an old muscle car like this
Legitimately your channel has become my favorite car review page! Positive vibes, badass cars, excellent interviewer, excellent quality of audio and video, perfect length of video, the list goes on!
Thank you!! I appreciate the compliment. We’re always trying to make great videos about cool builds and awesome people! Thank you 👊
Honored to get a reply! Hell yeah! Maybe one day I’ll see my ‘72 mustang on this page 😉
ShorrtRIDR I try keeping up with the comments. And yes on your 72!! Say when..
AutotopiaLA once it’s done being LS swapped so we can upset some folks haha
ShorrtRIDR let’s do it!
Dude, that is bad-ass, a killer canyon carving resto-rod! Thanks for sharing yet another smokin' Mustang bro & I dig the 427 Chevy, brutal ride man!
Resto-Rod! i like that description
Big Block cubic inch..but in a tiny modern LS platform..the best. :) Dumped my OG chevy for a 6 litre LS that I built in my two car garage...loving it big time. Laying down 442 whp...gets 25mpg cruising..
@@mynameis63 I know, I had a new aluminium head 10:5.1 compression ZZ4 350 with headers installed in my clean 1987 El Camino & it ran like a raped ape, I can only imagine a bigger displacement one.
@@vinniecorleone62 Ummm..well that's the engine that I removed and sold. I built a 6 liter chevy engine..but the modern LS platform engine..fuel injection..competer controlled. Gave my old small block chevy to a buddy for his car.
@@mynameis63 This was in the early 2000's & sadly here in California I had to utilize the stock electronic carburetor to pass smog so my options were limited then but it was a solid 400 HP motor in an 80's car. Today we have easy options with injection, etc.
Race it and drive it on the street? This is the ultimate period.
Carburetor and electric suspension. Can't say enough about this beauty
The look and the sound....what a beast! This freakin guy is an incredibly talented home builder, using the Trans Am theme in the design and execution....Brilliant
That’s one amazing piece of metal DANG 🤩
Its kool that he build it in his Garage! That's true hot rodding to the core! Once u go to sema ur a custom fabricator in my opinion because someone noticed ur skills.
Nothing can replace that smile when he stepped into the pedal💯
SO badass!! What a great job! Clear he's a racer, the love in the build shows it.
Such great inspiration for my Trans-Am/IMSA 1979 camaro build.
Out of all the cars you’ve shot, this is my favorite, hands down. I want it.
All props to Chris, definitely an amazing build. Me and the kid are working a 1970 coupe into something drivable. Doubt we'll get into as far as he did, but it's an inspiration to see what you can do with determination and talent!
If only I was a kid again.
44yrs old and have always appreciated cool performance cars but the bug never bit me severly until about 3yrs ago. If I could go back I would learn/ take every car course I could, so I could do all my own wrenching. What a great hobby/pastime/career that would be.
At my age, I may end up taking a bodyshop course yet as I think it would be a good pleasure to frustration ratio lol
Really into vehicle body lines, wraps/graphics and exterior stuff. Think it would be meditative work for someone like me. Total eye for imperfection too, so I'd prob do gd work if the skill was within my grasp.
Love your channel, your enthusiasm, and love be treated to these amazing cars and builds🤙
From a Chevy guy. I love that Mustang. Great job and I love the trans am style cars. I aim to do something similar to my 67 Camaro
What, put a Ford in it? Sorry, can't endorse it. Why do that to a perfectly good Ford engine, even if it would go faster and last longer.
Boy, this guy can create something 'so spot on' . What a talent !
I feel his views on racecar feels over normal dailys and luxury cars. Lol it's just so raw of a feel almost like an emotion.
Same for me. Raw and visceral vs numb and boring
That's awesome! Good for him, man! Jazzes me up to see people create things like this at home.
Absolutely love it, sounds amazing
This is an incredible build and all done in that tiny garage!
Looks awesome
I loved that 35 MPH sign you guys blasted by 🤣
This is the epitomy of car building. Built in his own garage, his own hands, not a million dollars and it puts a smile on everyone's face!
It reminds me as the Mustang version of the legendary Big Red Camaro
Love the fact he’s built this in his garage. You know I love this. This was also one of my favourites at SEMA so glad this got on the channel bro 👊👊👊
THERES THAT MEAN GREEN STANG AGAIN.💯 SWEET!
Dude that's one of the sickest custom garage builds I've ever seen let alone a mustang. Would be stoked to drive it. The builder is super humble too.
How does this channel only have 65k subscribers?
It won't for long.
Amazing car
Such and inspiration to see that come together in a home garage. You've taken a 70s mustang and knocked it out of the park with this build. Thanks for sharing...
Grinder and paint makes you the welder you ain't. Major props to you for building this in your garage.
Nice 👍🏼 now all it needs is an engine
I hear ya but given his reasoning I don’t mind the LS at all
I can’t describe the sound I just made for that car it’s... perfect
The talent is off the charts! Beautiful car.
Amazing work from one dude in his garage
That is a beautiful car, love the fact that it has a 7 liter LS, just cuz😊
Much respect to you both..that car is super dope..I love the LS swap..it makes the whole process so simple...Great Review!!!
Wowzers!
Shawn that was badass!! Never been a fan of the 70 Mustang until today. If Ford had made those look like that from day one they would have sold 10 times as many. Love your Channel!! Even when I have a bad day all I got to do is watch one of your vids and I'm good. Thanks for the content and the time you put into it.
I totally love the expression on the guy's face at 11:41.
This 'Stang is insane! I want one of those, too!
That so badass, you cant get over the sound
This thing is sick. I saw the pics from SEMA. Thanks for a great review of it!

*I knew a LS was coming ellmao. Some poor woman In. America came home to her Ford loving Husband's exploded head*
absolute perfection👌🏻
You must be more blind than Ray Charles.
I never have and probably never will, see a Mustang i want more than this...This Mustang is IT!
I get it. This and Vicious are the best Mustangs I’ve ever seen
I honestly think it’s bad ass. That’s cool man. Humble dude. Love it.
Excellent ... lol check how often the driver checks his rearview mirror while rowing some gears ... we probably all do too
Sweet!
Did anyone else see the nuts and bolts draws at 5:00 ? Incredible garage and well done on your build
Absolutely incredible. Huge props to this guy, diving in and making his vision come true at his own hand. Obviously he runs it as it was intended, which I have huge respect for. Am I crazy about the LS in a Ford? No, but I get it and who cares about my opinion anyway. The car is imperfectly perfect and I absolutely love it. Must be an absolute riot to drive.
Love this comment! We’re not all going to agree on the LS in a Ford but it’s not our choice. He’s such a cool guy and built an amazing car and all in his little garage! So cool
Why a LS3? You could’ve made a 351 stroker make the same power and be cheaper
Absolute bull shit!!! Any comparison that has ever been done between LS Motors versus small block Ford has proven time and time again that LS Motors are cheaper and make more power then a small block Ford any day of the week.
@@kennithchapman9689 yessir! this man tells the truth.
Nice stang bro👍
One of the best builds I have seen.
The most beautiful Mustang I've ever seen.
It’s a special one. Wait til you see the GT40 he did recently. We show it briefly in our recent SEMA recap video
So you spend a gazillion dollars and put a chevy in a ford......wow
Just to annoy you.
LS ALL DAY. SWAP THE WORLD.
its just an engine. no one cares as long as its loud and goes like hell.
Should've just left it the way it was and build a crapmaro instead , if he was just gonna do another Ls swap crap..
What engine would you put in? There is a reason you see ls swapped fords but no SBF swapped chevys. Oh and the camaro was actually built better than the mustang. Anyone who knows anything about pony cars will tell you this. And I own a mustang
It sounded funny but I thought it was exhaust tuning.
Stopped it when he said LS.
Bestow my ❤️ heart! This beauty stoped me in my tracks. They say there are moments in life that speak to us with out saying a word. I believe I'm with out a doubt having one of those very moments. Thank you for sharing such a beauty!! ❤️🤟❤️ Sincerely Lulu
🙋❤️
That's bad ass. My neighbor had a 600hp 32 Ford with a chevy 350. And Harley fenders over the front wheels.
