When Mechanics Lose Their Minds - Twin Turbo Ferrari F430 4.2L F136 V8 Powered 1968 Ford Mustang Build Project
Yes, American Legends Hot Rods and Muscle Cars built a 1968 Mustang hardtop into a radical restomod with a Ferrari F430 engine, and called if Corruptt.
Nothing makes us angrier than an LS-swapped Mustang, or really any Mustang with a non-Ford engine. It’s just wrong on so many levels. But if you HAVE to swap an engine into a Mustang that doesn’t have a Blue Oval cast onto it somewhere, we’re at least a little bit okay with using a foreign exotic engine, and of the existing exotics you can’t get more radical than a Ferrari 4-cam V8. That’s precisely what American Legends Hot Rods and Muscle Cars (alhotrods.com) has done in a 1968 hardtop (coupe) Mustang.
Tony Arme of American Legends has owned this car for roughly 15 years and decided to do something different, and he certainly pulled it off. This car was the talk of the 2018 SEMA Show this year. Not only does it have the Ferrari engine with a Nelson Racing Engines twin turbo setup, but much of the interior is from a Lamborghini and the body mods are extensive, from a 2.5-inch chop of the roof, flush glass, a laid-back windshield, custom side exhaust, molded in bumpers, one-off acrylic bumpers, a carbon fiber floorpan (!), and 3D-printed parts throughout. The centerpiece-the engine-is a Ferrari F430-based F136 V8 with a Ferrari California custom intake manifold, a T56 6-speed transmission with a sequential shifter, Ride Tech Shockwave air ride suspension, Avant F461 wheels.

THANK YOU
Thank You man. You saved a lot of time.
I appreciate the build, but they didn't rev it past probably 2k rpm. Why put a Ferrari engine in it if you can't even rev it? That's the whole point!
I just came here for that from instagram
Thank you
Imagine the things Ferrari and Ford could've made if the deal actually went through
Nothing more than an exotic car that only the privileged 1% of the population could afford .
i can help you DRAW lol privileged? You mean the hard working ?

seansurfn2 yeah man . Im ultra poor . I just drive a swift gti and a 3 series sportline enthusiastically.
I can't imagine how many thousands of hours were consumed test fitting components and coming up with solutions to technical problems. Superb build.

The engine and the turbos cost more than the entire car brand new from the factory.
Turbos and intercooler alone
The car new in the 60’s was like 5 grand lol
@@alext4179 Gotta adjust for inflation. The car was selling for $2500-$3000 from the factory. That will be around $19000-20000 in today's money. Still cheap considered these cars were considered as performance cars back then. No way you can a brand new sports car for that price nowadays.
@@traviswebster8302 That's relative. Back then these cars were considered having lots of power and tech. Today's car will be considered obsolete in 20 years as well. But I get your point though. Today's cars have much more to offer and justify the increase in cost but they are also overpriced given that production costs have decreased a lot over the years with better technology and robotisation of assembly lines.
Could be that they found a wrecked F430 up for auction. Potentially dirt cheap engine.
Every detail, every decision so beautifully executed. A masterpiece.
@damianw226 dont NEED an intercooler for a show car :P
Time to start a petition to get this car manufacturerd by the companies
Or it could simply run on alcohol/E...in which case you do not need an intercooler in a lot of cases and still make power

This is what happens when you think outside the box the owner of this mustang is a true hot rodder and I give him 100% respect for that
Sorry most mustangs from the 19's are not hot rods there classic muscle. Cars from the 30's to 40's are hot rods.
@@mr.blixen4462 I know the difference between a muscle car a street rod and hot rod and I'm also a Gearhead as well so please don't come here in the comment section and trying to correct somebody about their comment on the video what I said was not wrong and I put some thought in my comment so please don't be a know-it-all in the comment section
Look your a car enthusiasts so it is critical that we know our information about cars and can categorize them how they are so other people can know the right information. I was very embarrassed at the conference meeting about 20th century cars
But would a "true hot rodder" (whatever made up moniker you want to use) use a Ferrari engine? Highly unlikely lol.
When someone ask you why your mustang sounds foreign at the stop light but you're already half way down the street
The AMOUNT of MECHANICAL KNOWLEDGE you need to successfully accomplish something like THIS is what's blowing my mind!
Me: honey am building a mustang
Wife: how much it’s going cost
Also me: 5 bedroom house for sale comes with wife and kids

This might be one of the most beautiful bits of engineering and fabrication I’ve even seen.
so much respect and admiration for people who can do things like this. I recently changed the oil and sparkplugs on a POS auction mustang i bought. It took most of 2 days, and my hands were bloody by the end of it. Clearly, the previous owners had the same problems i had, because there were 3 brands of spark plugs in it. I guess they'd try, and then just replace whatever they could get off and quit. one day, i hope to be able to retire, have a garage, and work on cars on a level that i can't now.
Glad you had video of the engine running, man that engine sounds much more svelte in the higher rev range than a regular push-rod engine. At first I did not like the yellow to the cam covers and intake plenum, but it grew on me, i'm kind of hooked on Ferrari red. But yellow was the correct way to go with the black accent on the lettering.
Nice Stang!
Good because its orange
@@pascalolesen5187 colorblind much?
yea im not a fan of yellow but it grew on me as well, personally if he had went with burnt bronze it would have been perfect IMO.
It’s a shame it doesn’t sound nearly as good when it’s in the car
The turbos quiet it down quite a bit.
I'm just... really not feeling how low it sits. It kinda ruins the aesthetic, IMO. Everything else is pretty much perfect.
EDIT: Nevermind, it's an air ride suspension. I take it back.
Mickehd00d but rides like a old hay truck it’s too low but kinda cool for posing
I’ve noticed that air ride cars never look good when they’re fully dumped like this. I wish they would raise it up a bit just so we can see it in proper fitment
Ya I believe it could be a tad higher. Then it would be perfect
Agreed. Low stance is what kills all amazing builds.
Bradley Johnson incorrect it can be done wrong and right so it doesn’t ruin every build

one of a kind I think the engine in this ride is a respectful swap and well done to the designer and the fabricators
Man this is truly something special!! Is there a story about the wrecked Ferrari the motor was harvested from. Seriously there are no words.
So this car has "2" horse power ; )
one that prances, and the other that bucks? xD
More like "two horses power", or "dual horse power" ! But yeah, good one !
Ferrari logo and mustang logo = 2 horses
Nice
See what you did there.
Owner: I want a newer v8 engine
Mechanic: Yes sure, what do you want? Coyote? Ls? Hemi?
Owner: No, i want ferrari v8
Too bad the F430 engine is kind of a gutless turd. Should have Coyote swapped
B C 08 Agreed! I’m all for doing things that are different/expensive and a coyote swap wouldn’t be nearly as noteworthy but if it were my coin that’s the way I’d have gone. Then again, if it were my coin, I’d have no Mustang and less mortgages. :) Just hope my wife doesn’t read this and look in the garage at the unnecessary (but comparatively cheap) toys.
@@BC08 a high revving 490 horsepower v8 is a gutless turd?
Nitsua Compared to a 490 HP n/a Coyote (basically, tune only Gen 3 5.0) the F430 is gutless in comparison. Had no mid-range power and low torque. All the HP is from RPM.
B C 08 Wait. The twin turbo still only nets 490 hp?

Show car. Pretty pipes > performance
If you watch the entire video about 20 seconds shows them constructing a custom water to air intercooler. Most people probably just said what the hell is that and then promptly forgot about it because this whole project is so over the top.
I hope they're running methanol at least but you have to realize I'm sure they're only running 4 maybe 5 PSI of boost
