Sweet vermouth is pretty good by itself and easy to get through a bunch of it that way.

I’ve been a huge fan of the bonsoni cocktail lately: 2oz sweet vermouth, 1/2 oz fernet plus a little water if your ice is dry. It has just the right menthol finish to counteract the sweetness of the vermouth.

The specs above are from Diffords. I just looked in cocktail virgin and his has sweet vermouth, pint e mes, fernet and a dash of Cynar. I guess I need some punt e mes…

Hey Uncle Pete! Try out the Jitterbug, a low abv cocktail that has become one of my go-to as of late.
    1oz sweet vermouth
1.5 oz espresso (I use 2 oz of pour-over coffee instead)
    .5 oz fernet
    .5oz simple syrup (.25oz if 2:1)
    2-3 dashes orange bitters
Serve in a collins glass over ice. Garnish with some grated nutmeg!

I love the variation and the variation on the variation! The traditional Manhattan is my absolute favourite and the Brooklyn is right behind it but I love all of the riffs! Punt E Mes is a fabulous switch up! I love really dry, herbaceous cocktails and I usually use a 100% punchy rye. The Ardbeg is fabulous and Ardbeg is a huge love of mine! Single malts are spectacular and what a terrific cocktail to use the Wee Beestie in! Rye and smoky scotch are outstanding and soooooo delicious!! :-) I might skip the maraschino - smoky, dry is for me but we all get to have cocktails as we love them!! Dr, smoky, herbaceous - bliss! Single malts are my thing right now for the fall and of course Manhattans and all the spectacular riffs!! Lagavulin and Ardbeg expressions are huge faves!! Awesome video Pete! Cheers! 🙂

Thanks Christine! I found the Meat hook variant to be super delicious, but the maraschino was key to balance it out. Give it a try I say! Cheers!

I will absolutely give the maraschino a good delicious try!! Sounds like it absolutely makes this riff delectable!! I love that! I will make these tonight Pete! My husband will adore the Meat Hook and I think I will too!! Isn’t is amazing how many fabulous riffs can be created from one spectacular cocktail?!! That is so cool!! Hope u r having a super awesome day!! Portland in the fall is lovely and pretty close to Vancouver!! Cheers friend!

Another great video. While I love the content, I love your cinematography and the voice over tasting video that changes to the voice video. Smooth! As for Manhattan variations, I love the Preakness, but my favorite is the “Cease and Desist” from “Cure: New Orleans Drinks and How to Mix ‘em” cocktail book and the bar in New Orleans. A reverse Manhattan variation, I treat as a low-ABV cocktail to have in between regular cocktails to extend the evening without too much pain.
    2 oz Punt e Mes
1 oz Rye (I love Rittenhouse, but Sazerac would be classic New Orleans, and I also love Old Fo Rye)
    1 barspoon Fernet Branca
Combine all ingredients into mixing glass, add ice, stir. Strain into chilled Nick & Nora glass. Garnish with orange peel.

Ok first off that is some quality POSITIVE FEEDBACK! Thanks you so much!
Second, I have that book! I think there are a lot of reverse manhattan type drinks in there, this one sounds great, AND I have PeM right now so I am going to try it. maybe even make a vid.
Third, I don't think I've made a Preakness, so I'll have to check that out as well.
      Cheers Rob!

Pete! These look delicious. Out of Pun e Mes atm, but have read that in a pinch, 2:1 sweet vermouth:Averna makes an acceptable sub. Ever heard of / tried that? (or another sub using sweet vermouth + amaro, the latter of which I have MANY)

Been forever since I've had Punt E Mes, but wow does a Red Hook sound like a great application for the OF Rye! Gotta wonder, given your 50/50 maraschino blend... how does it work with a 50/50 Dopo/E Mes blend?

Maraschino is good but it can overpower - any thoughts on just a dab of syrup to sweeten up the drinks?
I usually forget that I can just drink Vermouth neat and it sits in the fridge corner until it’s no good and 1/2 a bottle is left.

    • @UnclePete
      @UnclePete  Před 7 měsíci +3

Obviously there is no rule! Maraschino will add that little funk as well, but you should try it with Simple, and see how you like it!
