"Marche Henri IV" or "Vive Henri IV" is a popular French song celebrating King Henry IV of France. It served as the anthem of the French Monarchy. The melody comes from Thoinot Arbeau's work Orchesographie; it is the Branle Couppé "Cassandre", while the lyrics were written for a comedy opera in 1770. At later dates, more lyrics were added to the song and refers to the first Bourbon King of France, Henry IV (Henry III of Navarre), who had ended the Wars of Religion and restored peace to France. Additional lyrics supporting either the Revolutionary or Restorationist causes were sung during the course of the French Revolution.
- Hudba

Pre-Revolutionary France: "I like girls and I like good wine!"
Revolutionary France: "Let the blood of our enemies water our fields!"
The latter one is better.
France be like : "BLOOD FOR BLOOD GOD"
Revolutionary France: KILL ALL ENEMIES AND EAT THEIR ORGANS AND DRINK THEIR BLOOD
*EDIT:* Just learned that this is a common misconception about the lyrics and the lyrics are indeed referring to the enemies of France not peasant blood. However I’m still going to keep the comment up so if someone sees this they will be aware that this is not the correct narrative around the lyrics.
The message behind that is true but the lyric you’re referring to actually means something a bit different
“Impure blood” meant peasant blood, the lyric is basically stating, die for the glorious equal republic, which is still pretty fucked up but sadly not as metal…
@@patart3846 can’t remember exactly, but basically “sang impur” just literally means non royal or noble blood. I’ll try to find a place to read about it and if I do I’ll edit my comment

I thinks the marseillaise is better because even if it was created during the French Revolution. If you listen to it without context it dosen't sound royalist or republican (at least the first part).
Post scriptum : monarchy or not France is still a great country.

So second phase of lyrics translation is correct? I meant the “I love girls and I love the good wine, from our jolly fellow, here’s gay refrain. I love girls and I love the good wine” part

Clovis I, also known as Chlodovech or Chlodwig, was a Frankish king who ruled from 481 to 511. He is considered one of the most significant figures in early medieval European history and played a crucial role in the establishment of the Merovingian dynasty and the Frankish Kingdom.
Clovis was born around 466, and he became king of the Salian Franks at the age of 15 after the death of his father, Childeric I. At the time, the Frankish Kingdom was divided into several smaller tribes, and Clovis aimed to unite them under his rule.
One of Clovis's most notable achievements was his conversion to Christianity. He was initially a pagan, but after marrying Clotilde, a Burgundian princess who was a devout Catholic, he converted to her faith. This conversion had significant political implications, as it helped Clovis gain the support of the Catholic Church and the Gallo-Roman population, who were predominantly Christian.
Clovis's military campaigns were also crucial to his rise to power. He expanded the Frankish Kingdom through a series of successful military campaigns, conquering neighboring territories and tribes. His most significant victory came in 486 when he defeated the Roman general Syagrius and established Frankish control over northern Gaul.
Under Clovis's rule, the Frankish Kingdom became one of the most powerful and influential states in Western Europe. He established his capital in Paris and continued to expand his territories, eventually ruling over much of modern-day France, Belgium, and parts of Germany.
Clovis's reign also had a lasting impact on the political and social structure of the Frankish Kingdom. He implemented a system of government based on personal loyalty and military service, known as the "comitatus." This system allowed him to maintain control over his territories and establish a strong central authority.
After Clovis's death in 511, his kingdom was divided among his four sons, leading to a period of instability and internal conflicts within the Merovingian dynasty. Nevertheless, Clovis's legacy as the founder of the Frankish Kingdom and his conversion to Christianity laid the foundation for the future development of medieval Europe.
In conclusion, Clovis I was a Frankish king who played a crucial role in the establishment of the Merovingian dynasty and the Frankish Kingdom. His military conquests, conversion to Christianity, and establishment of a strong central authority laid the foundation for the future development of medieval Europe. Clovis's reign marked a significant turning point in European history and his legacy continues to be studied and appreciated today. The Kingdom of France was a medieval and early modern monarchy that existed from the 9th century until the French Revolution in 1789. It was one of the most powerful and influential European kingdoms during its time, shaping the political, cultural, and social landscape of the region.
The origins of the Kingdom of France can be traced back to the Carolingian dynasty, specifically with the crowning of Charlemagne as the Holy Roman Emperor in 800. After the Carolingian Empire dissolved, the West Frankish Kingdom emerged, which eventually evolved into the Kingdom of France.
Throughout its history, the Kingdom of France experienced periods of expansion and consolidation. Under the Capetian dynasty, which began in the 10th century, the kingdom gradually expanded its territories, incorporating regions such as Normandy, Aquitaine, and Burgundy. The Capetians established a strong central authority and laid the foundation for the French monarchy's power.
The Hundred Years' War (1337-1453) was a significant event in the history of the Kingdom of France. It was a series of conflicts between France and England over territorial disputes and the French crown. Despite initial setbacks, France eventually emerged victorious, largely due to the leadership of figures like Joan of Arc. The war solidified French national identity and strengthened the monarchy's authority.
During the Renaissance, the Kingdom of France experienced a period of cultural and intellectual flourishing. The French court became a center of artistic patronage, with renowned figures like King Francis I supporting the arts and sciences. This era saw the rise of influential French thinkers, such as philosopher René Descartes and writer Michel de Montaigne.
The Kingdom of France also played a significant role in European politics and international affairs. It engaged in conflicts and alliances with neighboring kingdoms, such as England, Spain, and the Holy Roman Empire. France's ambitions for territorial expansion and its rivalry with other European powers often led to wars and power struggles.
The French Revolution in 1789 marked the end of the Kingdom of France. The revolutionaries overthrew the monarchy, leading to the establishment of the First French Republic. The revolution brought about significant political, social, and cultural changes, including the rise of radical ideologies and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte.
In conclusion, the Kingdom of France was a powerful and influential monarchy that shaped European history for centuries. From its origins in the Carolingian Empire to its eventual demise during the French Revolution, the kingdom left a lasting impact on politics, culture, and international relations. Its legacy continues to be studied and appreciated as an important chapter in French and European history.
