  • This rusty hand tool gets a well deserved restoration after years of neglect. My brother found this plane in a small antique store for a fair price. Even though it probably wasn't operational in its as-found condition (blade iron was bevel up), I decided to take it with me and give it some attention. These planes are not as desirable as Stanley's Bailey line, but their appearance is somewhat charming. Interestingly, the red and gray color scheme is very similar to the original colors of the Mancuna A2X I restored in my last video. This made painting very easy with just slight tinting of the gray to make it darker. The blade iron is possibly considered ‘no good’ due to the amount of pitting, but I cleaned it up for the purpose of this video. I will try to source an original blade in better condition when I come across one. I’m very happy with the way this Victor 1104 turned out and I hope you enjoyed the video as well.

Beautiful job. Very few know how to properly restore these old hand planes. Other then the lateral adjustment those Victors are identical to Bailey. I wonder if its all interchangeable

Great video, bro! Fantastic! Interesting work, how long did it take? Were there any complications?

Fun fact, I have gotten planes very cheap, for the same thing that your plane had wrong. The iron and chip breaker put together wrong. So many people not realizing how it goes and they assume the plane is junk.

What did you wipe on the handles before you sprayed the polyurethane?

    • @piphawk

That was an oil based stain I mixed together to get a red color.
