Tunisia Luxury Hotel Tour (2023): Dar Ayed, Tamezeret, North Africa

A five minute tour of the luxurious Dar Ayed in Tunisia, North Africa, set in the ancient Amazigh settlement of Tamezeret, about 10km kilometers west from Matmata on the C104 road, and 45km southwest of the governorate capital Gabès.

Inspired by Amazigh traditions, Dar Ayed Tamezret is a unique boutique concept in southern Tunisia. A tranquil place where you can completely escape from the modern world. It’s low-rise in stature, authentic and stylish in design, with interiors abundant with flourishes of colour - brimming with local crafts and textiles typical of the region. As you enter the grounds, you’re greeted with exposed sandstone walls and a set of arched wooden doorways decorated with religious and spiritual symbols. Outdoors, a crystalline swimming pool invites you for a cooling dip and hammocks sway in the gentle breeze tempting you to simply unwind. The interior is equally as appealing while the rooms ooze rustic charm.
You can taste local Amazigh cuisine in the atmospheric restaurant or outside on the tiled terrace overlooking Tamezret village. Spend your days leisurely roaming labyrinth village streets, exploring the village museum, or hiking to beauty spots for the best views. Dar Ayed Tamezret takes care of all the little details for you, offering excursions and entertainment. On some evenings you may see folk musicians perform in traditional Tunisian dress.
I have visited Dar Ayed three times now between 2019 and 2022, and stayed the night there once. Dar Ayed was aware I was filming for this channel.

Great stuff, it's a beautiful hotel, and a good base from which to explore the area. Also the drive west from there on the C104 to Douz is stunning!

It's amazing to think that the tiny Amazigh settlement of Tamezeret is home to not one but two accommodation options listed as "Author's Favourite" in the upcoming Bradt Travel Guide to Tunisia!
