This #diy video from Sears PartsDirect shows you what to do if your gas #dryer doesn't heat. Several things could be keeping your dryer from operating normally. You could have a broken flame sensor, gas valve coils, high-limit thermostat, operating thermostat, thermal cut-off fuse, thermal fuse, igniter or timer. This video shows a few easy tests you can run, including how to use a multimeter to check for continuity between these #parts and locate which component is causing the problem.
    1. Check the gas supply.
    2. Check the burner igniter.
    3. Check the gas valve coils.
    4. Check the components in the control circuit.
    5. Check the high-limit thermostat.
    6. Check the operating thermostat.
    7. Check the thermal cut-off fuse.
    8. Check the thermal fuse.
    9. Check the timer.
    10. Check the igniter.
    11. Check the flame sensor.
If you made it all the way though and you still haven’t found a problem, you could have a defective motor centrifugal switch or a wiring failure in the heating circuit. You would need a service technician to check this out for you.

This excellent video enabled me to fix my girlfriend's Kenmore dryer (same model as in the video) for $5.77 (thermal fuse) instead of $200.00+ that an appliance repair company would have charged her (incl $150.00 for simply showing up). She even considered buying a new W/D combo for $1,200.00+! I bought a multimeter for $6.00 and followed the instructions in the video. Simple! If I can do it you can, too! Thank you!

This video is amazingly easy to follow, yet very thorough. Another video told me to replace the gas solenoids, but luckily I also watched this one and discovered I had a bad thermal fuse. You need a multimeter and a bit of familiarity with the ohmmeter function (I had help), but the fix was relatively easy, as far as appliances go. Thank you, Sears, for creating a perfect video.

7 years and still the best explanation, professor Wayne. Too bad Sears no longer exists. I would only add that a good cleaning solved issues with start/stop, incomplete drying and "sensor" dry not working when "timed" did. Cleaning = taking apart, removing/ vacuuming lint from everywhere (including under moisture sensor bars), cleaning bars, sensors and contacts with alcohol wipes (used carb cleaner for high heat one to remove carbon). While you're at it, replace the belt and pulley wheel. If that fails, all components in 2023 are less than $80.

I've been troubleshooting and repairing my old Sears Kenmore gas dryer for almost 25 years now and I found that the burner valve solenoid coils can become weak over time. When this occurs there is not enough magnetism generated to hold the valve open and it will shut off. Just recently I had the flame ignite, burn for about a half minute, then shut off. I suspected the solenoid coils again; however, I had just replaced these only about five years ago. Turns out that the exhaust vent was completely blocked at the louvers outside the house. I removed the wad from the vent and now my dryer is back in service. Thank God I found this blockage and thanks to the manufacturer designed this machine to have temperature sensors in the dryers internal exhaust duct to monitor the temperature and shut down the machine if they sense a temperature above normal. We typically clean the lint screen; however, I had recently threw a bunch of burlap into the dryer after having washed it and I never experienced more of a mess than what this material made. I cleaned the lint screen and the next time I ran the dryer with normal fabrics in it is when the trouble began. A word of advise: don't run burlap in your machines. If you have the flame got out after a a short time, first check your vent for clogs as I had. You'll save a lot of time and money if that is the root of the problem.

Thank you for the video. I just replaced my two gas valve coils and the dryer works as good as new. $15.00 for the two new coils off Amazon and a little labor on my own part to change out the coils. You save so much money once you learn to take care of these issues on your own.

*DON'T SKIP THESE STEPS WHENEVER YOU ARE IN THE DRYER, IF YOU'VE REMOVED THE FRONT SIDE(5/6" or 8mm wrench for bolt heads):
Be SURE to remove the drum and plain SILICONE SPRAY(not wd40!) both felt seals to the drum, AND oil(motor oil drops, whatever you have) both back drum free wheel rollers and the belt spring roller shafts!
Those things will last SO much longer now. I've seen those parts fail badly if you don't.
Really great video! Perfect for my 95 whirlpool dryer. It turned out to be the thermal fuse. You said the vent might be clogged. I'll check that but I think my gas flame is set too high because it's too-long much yellow flame tips so I'm gonna adjust that next. Thanks

Terrific video! This guy is a master and I would like to have him over for a beer! Fixed my dryer in no time!😁

I'm still in the shitter and haven't even made it to the dryer yet, but I really wish I'd have found this video first before the other half dozen that didn't actually explain how anything works and just had some guy randomly poking around with a meter.
Update: 15 minutes from start to finish (tools already on hand) I found a bad ignitor.
Going to order the parts from your site.

Thank you! Saved us $$$ for a new gas dryer. Our case is the thermostat fuse. $6 part and one day to fix for a non repair person.
