  • Patagonia Micro Puff vs DAS Light vs Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer 2
    By request, here is the comparison of the Patagonia Micro Puff ($299), DAS Light ($329), and Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer 2 ($325) Jackets.
    All of these are great mid-weight puffy jackets and have full, detailed reviews and videos. Honestly, they are all great and I would recommend them in a heartbeat. But, I have chosen a favorite jacket and I will go over why in this video.

    Outstanding review. On point to three great, similar options. Thank you for doing what you do - I just bought the Torentshell 3L, love it. Just bought the Micro Puff no hoody, love it. I’m considering it the DAS Light Hoody for the colder, windy days….it’s what I was looking for and now, due to your review, I know. Random aside…I bought the Patagonia Houdini Fleece Hoody…Jesus on a snowmobile is it cozy. Thanks again my good man. Patagonia For The Win!

    Thank you, Sean, I wonder why they decided to put drop pockets in the micro-puff but not the DAS light. The micro-puff is more minimalistic. I think at these weights unless you're prioritizing durability, down doesn't really make sense. The DAS seems to be better designed for climbing and weather resistant. It probably doesn't breathe as well.

      Thanks Thanh! I wish they had drop pockets in the DAS Light. Perhaps they will add them in the next generation? They are good about listening to feedback. Take care

    Thanks, Sean, great comparison. I wonder how Patagonia positions the Micro Puff vs the DAS Lite given both have the same amount of fill. Also, I bet the Mtn Hw jacket folds up into a LOT smaller size than the other 2.

      @Engearment  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks Paul! The MH does pack up small, easily fitting into the hand pocket. I think the Micro Puff fits the UL minimalist market, or those who dont want the PU coated Pertex Pro. But, I am digging the DAS Light! Used it today to walk 2 miles in a light snow storm :)

    Really enjoy and appreciate your reviews! Friendly, informative, quick and comprehensive!
    These might not be in the same category but do you have an opinion on DAS Lite Hoody compared to the MACRO Puff?
    Das Lite you mentioned was a favourite for output activity, our winters get frigid, and I have a mix of active and stationary outdoor time, when looking at these two, does anything stand out for the most versatile/ everyday jacket (under a shell).
    The 10 denier nylon and belay design is a bit concerning for durability, I love the drop pockets, double zip and adjustable hood! I want to embrace the layering system but something like the Insulated Quandry Jacket is just shy in price but has more of the "jacket" but less insulation.

      Thank you! I appreciate that kind feedback 😊🙌. Great question too. The Macro puff is really great. Especially if you are using it for everyday as well as under a shell. I used it more as an everyday jacket than the DAS lite. It feels even warmer and does not look as technical. It might the better choice for ever you are looking for. Hope that helps!

    (text from google translator) Thanks for your work! I don't speak English and I have watched your video with automatic captions, so I missed half of your comments. Excuse me if you already discussed this topic: of the three, which is the hottest? (taking into account that it will be used as a second coat with a gore on top). My activity will be long-distance hiking (1500km) with a minimum temperature between 0 and -10. Thanks!

      Hey Oscar! Thank you for the great question and support. I would opt for the Micro Puff for your needs. It’s the most warmth to weight ratio of these jackets. Heck, you might even want to look at the Macro Puff. Hope that helps my friend!

      @@Engearment okay. I am going to do research on micro and macro puff ... I feel a little unsure about the thermal capacity of such small synthetic membranes ... I guess it is a baseless fear. Thank you very much for your support!

    Hey Sean, out of curiosity, did you ever try Eddie Bauer’s BC EverTherm Down Jacket in comparison? It seems to tick a lot of the same boxes than the MicroPuff and DAS. It’s a down jacket of course, not synthetic.

    Awesome review. Is Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer 2 jacket as shiny on the surface as it appears in the video? I want to grab the Ghost Whisperer 2 Vest. It only comes in black which is fine, but it does appear to have shiny surface on it.

      @Engearment  Před 3 lety +1

      You know, I have not used any Haglofs gear so I can not speak on that. As far as hoods go with these jackets, the DAS Light is my favorite :) Can you elaborate on what you appreciate on the Haglofs? Definitely have my curiosity!

    Would you go black or purple with the DAS light hoody?

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  Před 3 lety +1

      I suppose it depends on the condition. If you prefer style and use in city as well, then probably black. But I am a fan of bright colors in the the outdoors for safety and visibility.

    I am about your height and weight - probably slightly bigger chest - and am consistently between an XL and a XXL, would you say the Das Parka is exactly the same size and fit as the Micro Puff?

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  Před 3 lety +1

      Nice Brian! I bet you train effectively my friend! Good question on the sizing. the DAS Parka is a generous fit. I can layer it over another puffy or jacket. The DAS Light is also a nice fit. I can layer it over a jacket as well. The Micro Puff is not alpine tight, but it is a tad slimmer than the DAS line. Hope that helps!

      @brianlaguardia9122 Před 3 lety

      @@Engearment Thanks so much for the response - its so nice to find a good channel for gear reviews. I am nowhere near as well trained as I used to be - but hopefully I will get some of it back. Specifically, I guess my question is sleeve length and chest/shoulders: Do you feel there is some room, or do you feel you are right at the threshold of fit for this piece? I could barely fit into the Micro Puff XL but ended up getting an XXL, which is a tad too loose, but better than the XL which is a bit too tight. Cannot get to a store to test these as I work overseas, but planning to send one to a friend who is coming through the states.

    Is the DAS Parka noticeably warmer then the DAS Light?

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  Před 3 lety +2

      The DAS Parka is very warm, as it is also more than double the insulation. It is a fantastic puffy! I was just using the DAS Light today in -4 F temps, although I was splitboarding, so that keeps me feeling pretty warm. If I was just standing there, not moving, then the DAS Parka would be the first choice.

    Hi Sean, I just bought a OR Foray II and I am looking to buy an insulated jacket to pair with the hard shell. I want something versatile to use in the winter around -20 Celsius. What would you suggest? Thank you.

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  Před rokem +1

      That is pretty chilly! I would opt for a down or synthetic puffy with 5-8 ounces of insulation. I can provide a few ideas if you want.

    • @woody6791
      @woody6791 Před rokem

      @@Engearment Thank you for the reply. Yes I know -20c might be pushing it a little. But I would like to know what insulated hoodie jacket I could put under the Foray to be comfortable around this temperature while doing medium/light activity. I’ll be wearing a merino base layer and Patagonia R1 or similar. Also, what do you think of the OR Helium Hoodie in this situation? Thank you!
