    Appreciate what you said at the end Seb. I feel like there's a lot of gatekeepers in the weightlifting community, especially compared to other strength sports. If I was a powerlifter who didn't compete, no one would say anything.
    Why is it that there's always this heated discussion about drug use, anti-doping, and the state of weightlifting whenever I'm mentioned when the likes of Tian Tao, Lasha, and 70% of people who you cover on your show are actively breaking the rules of anti-doping and competing while being on drugs?
    Why don't I see hatred towards those lifters? I'm not saying people should like me, but they should at least be consistent with their anti-doping beliefs. I have never broken the rules, while people praise Russian weightlifters who were part of state-sponsored doping and broke anti-doping rules several times.

People love playing the game of semantics only because they want to take away what someone else has done in order to make themselves feel better about where their progress is currently at. What's wrong with admitting that someone is better than you? If someone were to be a true sports(wo)man, they'd be able to recognize that - and give credit where it was due - whilst still training on their own to get as good as they could possibly get. I absofucking-lutely agree with what you said about Clarence and his identity as a weightlifter. What defines people are the processes they go through and how they manage them, not singular events like steping in a platform in a competition.

    I actually like the length of this video. There are times when I'm only interested in hearing one or two specific segments of your regular broadcasts, but since I don't know where they fall in the video, I wind up abandoning the effort just because I don't have time that day to watch the whole broadcast (this is not a criticism, it's time crunch on busy days). So, yup, I say more, please.

    Seb, we are cool with whatever you want to present. Clarence, you achieved with individual effort, in a small country, what normally takes state-sponsored team efforts to achieve, and you stayed out of competition due to your principled arguments about drug use. You are cool.

    To say a person is not a weightlifter because he or she doesn't compete is a mentality I don't think I've heard for other sports/hobbies. No one says a person who skateboards isn't a skateboarder just because they don't compete. No one says a person isn't a musician just because they don't compete (or even record or perform publicly). It's just a matter of doing the activity involved with some consistency. Gatekeeping on the grounds of whether the person competes just sounds like some elitist nonsense and especially seems absurd when talking about a person doing elite level lifts like Clarence.

    • @jimmierustler5607
      @jimmierustler5607 Před 3 lety +6

      It also means the day after Lu Xiaojun retires and is in the gym doing snatches, some Keyboard idiot would feel justified walking up to him throwing his deadlift over his head and say "you're not a weightlifter". It's absurd

Rly love his videos rly love his personality and I have nothing but respect for the man who is not a pro and is making them sweat so hard that they would give them so much hate and try to bring him down .

    At the end of the day it doesn't matter if he competes or not. The shear level of strength and skill to pull off these lifts is undeniable without question. That's real reason everyone should watch his content. Most of us will never achieve 1/4 of what this guy can casually pull off (gear or no gear).
