    There’s nothing worse than winding in a rod, only to realise the bait is gone! All species love boilies, bream, roach, chub, poisson chat, crayfish but if they are where the carp are, adjustments have to be made. Readymade hardened hookbaits have been available for years but they aren't cheap so I like to make my own. In the past I’ve air dried them, or glugged them but this year I wanted to have a go at salt curing. Each brand of bait varies of course so you might have to do a bit of experimentation but through a combination of air drying + salt curing + spraying and then rolling in salt, it’s pretty easy to create really tough, highly attractive hookbaits for very little money. I hope that you give this a go and if you’ve already done this and have some ideas to share then I’d love to hear them.

    HI Mathew, love the films excellent content and no company bias.
    Would the salt method work for pop ups and ready mades to get harder hook baits, off to France later this month and lake is full of crays, thanks

    • @matthewcollinsangler
      @matthewcollinsangler  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hi mate, I wouldn’t use popups if there are crays, way too small. I’ve never tried making popups harder so not sure how that would work. I fish big bottom baits, I use the scopex stabilised in 24mm with a nice, simple and robust heavy duty mono rig. I don’t have crays at my lake but many visitors use this rig because it’s very anti tangle and cheap to make. If the crays play with it, they won’t kill your chances of a pickup. You’ll be re-casting every 4 hours I expect anyway. Use only boilies and spread them over a wide area, gives the crays less to home in on.
      Here’s a quick overview of the rig I’m talking about:

      And the tackle I use for this:
      amzn.to/45yq4b9
      Hope that gives you food for thought and all the best for your trip!

    Love your videos what bait would you rdckonend for the winter

    • @matthewcollinsangler
      @matthewcollinsangler  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hi mate, depends on what you class as winter TBH. I only really worry about switching to a dedicated winter bait when the water temps are below 13 degrees. Carp can’t digest much protein in cold water so you want something with sub 20% protein ideally. You also want a bait that contains ingredients that are soluble at low temperatures. For the last few years I’ve used the Nash Citruz and that works well because it’s specifically designed for winter use but it’s not the only option available. Rigs and hooks are more important than bait flavour. Cheers, Matt.
