Walder Frey answering Catelyn’s threat to kill his wife by saying “I’ll find another” is, to me, probably the coldest line in the show.
I’m felt so bad for his wife because she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time
It goes to show that they disrespected him both for good reason, and at their own peril; if they thought so little of Frey that they would renege on a sworn promise, they might have expected a dirtbag like him to seek revenge rather than display grace and forbearance. They made the mistake of moral people everywhere: they projected their own morals onto someone else and paid the price.
Also, Walder didn't say anything to the wife. That's disrespect like no other. He lets her die in front of him and doesn't even acknowledge she's right there listening to the whole thing.

Still Catelyn's fault for murdering her. Catelyn deserved to die. She started a war by kidnapping Tyrion and then freeing Jaime during said war.
Killing someone you have invited into your home and broken bread with is one of the most egregious acts you can do in this world. The Starks thought they were safe because of this sacred custom. It's why it was the perfect trap. A bit different than in the books, but equally heartbreaking. I love watching you two!
The audience thinks its safe too, because these types of situations don't happen in tv or film. Though such things have happened in real life, such as the head of Templar family getting invited to the Vatican and getting slaughtered in their sleep. In other words, nobody has plot armor in real life, and this subverts our expectations to this realization in the best way possible, like ripping off a Band-Aid. The Starks lived by an honor code, and their mistake is assuming others follow this honor code.
@@neil2444 in the books, that Stark's honor code is what made Rob break his promise to Walder; but in the show he made it for love, which is a little out of character for Rob.

@@neil2444 the red wedding was inspired by a real life events, one of which is The Black Dinner. Another event is the massacre of Glencoe. Thanks to GoT ive been reading about all these historical stuff, fascinating!
@@sariel8406 an ancestor of mine, Alasdair MacLain was on the wrong end of Glencoe. Over three centuries later and on another continent, my dad and grandpa still told us about the Campbell’s treachery 😂
When i watched GoT for the first time and Ned died, i was shocked. But i told myself "so this is really a tale about a son avenging his father's death" when Robb rallied his men to wage war. Then the Red Wedding happened. I was soooooo shocked i didn't realized i was already staring with my mouth open at the silent credits rolling by. It was then that it really cemented on me the fact that no one is really safe in this show, not even the main characters are exempted to death. Which is really good in retrospect, because it makes the story more realistic and unpredictable.
That also made me finally go read the books, which are masterpieces.
I was the same. But I would add to that, that this scene cemented in me not only that no one is safe. But it is not a tale for Ned Stark, his son avenging him, for A house, or even people. This is a tale about a gigantic imaginary world that felt real af
i read somewhere that george rr martin dsnt really like the sterotypical stories. this includes the son stepping up to avenge his father and becoming a great man. robb was dead the moment he was created.
also totally mental bu the second time i read the series i was utterly convinced Ned was going to survive...because thats how books work.

And that's also why the amount of plot armor and contrived happenings that were in the last seasons bothered me so much. It's not only that the writing was bad and rushed and the character arcs were messed, it's that it looked like a different show altogether.
Why would you read the books when only 5 out of 7 have been released?

The significance of “The Rains of Castamere” is it’s essentially the Lannister song. Tywin’s in particular

No matter how many times I see the episode, this scene still hits emotionally. The scandal of it all. But especially Michelle Fairly’s performance as Catelyn. She should have been nominated for an Emmy for this season and this performance in particular. Heart breaking.
She never got the credit she deserved for her performance. One of the best on the whole show
Who got Emmys from this show besides Dinklage? I liked his character but I think Dinklage isn't that great of an actor. His English accent absolutely sucked.

@@KrauzerUTH Alife Allen and Michelle Fairley were the best on the show, Dinklage got the best dialogue. I think half the time acting awards are given based on what lines they get to deliver.
One thing I remember about this episode and I believe is genius is the fact that the end credits had no music. You're just left alone with your feelings about what you just witnessed.

I'd heard about the red wedding before I watched the show, but I didn't know whose wedding it was or who died at it, so it was still a surprise when I watched it
I’ve felt so bad for Pudgey for weeks/months when she was so excitedly shipping Rob and Tulisa and I knew, to quote the show, her joy would turn to ashes in her mouth! Brilliant move by Tywin to end the war in minutes. The reason Rob went in unprotected is because this never happens. In this world, it’s customary that, when you invite someone into your home and they accept your hospitality, they are protected. What Frey did at the behest of Tywin was unprecedented and a total betrayal of all the rules of war.
I’m not sure if this is the same in the show, but he also had a lot of his own troops there. Unfortunately, they were taken by surprise, and many of them were Boltons.

btw: The starks felt safe because Frey had offered them bread and salt. Which is like a promise that the people are safe under his roof. When Catelyn noticed Bolton not drinking and wearing chainmail she knew there was a fight coming - hence why she slapped him

People think this show is messed up and just made up of imagination. But the events in this novel is inspired from many real life historical events.

Aye I remember I started to watch game of thrones when I think season 4 or 5 had finished so I had time to catch up, watched it with my friend who had already seen and didn’t prepare me for what was to come. I didn’t watch it for a year after that episode out of spite lol

Every new #GoT reactor claims to be a summer child, when they aren't really. Outside S&P, I have yet to find a single good #GoT reactor since the show ended.

Interesting how she started laughing at the end there.
In the books, Catelyn starts laughing hysterically at the same moment and they kill her almost as a mercy because she completely loses it - tywin later tells tyrion she was supposed to be kept alive but "something must have gone awry".
Her actress Michelle Fairley, who watches the scene in the actors commentary for the episode also starts laughing too. They didn't adapt it into the show but it's interesting the show causes that exact response from some people.

Watched this with a friend who’d read the books and seen it all - he didn’t give a thing away, at all. Not one look or anything.
I was just agog with silent tears streaming down my face…When it ended I turned to look at him but still couldn’t find words…he said it was the only time he’d felt bad about it because I looked so betrayed and helpless. Hahaha!

By far the best reaction I've ever seen to this episode. I know how upset you both are but try and remember it's like being on a giant rollercoaster of emotions. There will be the lowest of lows but there will also be the highest of highs. These kind of episodes is what makes GOT the best show ever made.
@@ben1ben2ben1 ok I was just giving my opinion. I've never been one to agree with most critics and award shows. In my opinion alot of those are based on who you are or who you know. Most of that shit is all rigged. Those shows you named I tried watching and I could not get into them so while they have won all kinds of awards that doesn't mean anything to me because for the most part my favorite shows even tho there are some that are very popular but most are not that popular it's just my personal choice and that's all I can comment on.
what makes this twist so great is that it was totally earned!
if you rewatch the previous episodes you will see all the signs that lead to this are there, but the audience ignores them because no one wants to believe this could happen to the heroes:
- Robb's and Catelin's mistakes.
- Warnings that Walder Frey will not forgive this
- Roose Bolton's betrayal and him working with the Lannisters was full on display for several episodes now, and more.
GRRM doesn't do plot armor! ^^
If you thought this was bad, it was way worse in the books and “Talisa” wasn’t even there. First Cat had just learned of the marriage of between Sansa & Tyrion, both Cat and Rob believed Rickon and Bran were dead. Rob had just let Cat know that their plan after the wedding was to go back home and win Winterfell back, to then give up his crown if it meant sparing Northerners’ lives. Oh and Roose Bolton’s last words to Robb were “Jaime Lannister sends his regards”, the man who Cat had let escaped. I saw GOT before I read the books, and I didn’t cry when I saw this nor when I read the chapter to this. I cried like a b at the end of Catelyn’s previous(penultimate) chapter when her and Rob had just made their peace in believing that Arya was most likely dead never knowing how close they’d be to seeing her alive, I literally had to put the book down for days.

I honestly regret having the Red Wedding spoiled for me while watching the series, because this scene definitely delivers such a unique experience..it was kind of painful to watch you starting the episode in a cheerful mood lol. Great reaction again as always!
That's why I never entertain any kind of discussion or research into a show or games plot no matter how much its being talked about. Even if it's only a 0.1% chance I'll ever watch or play it. So many times I'll shut down a friend starting to get too into a new series they just picked up or something, it's worth it in the end.
I've watched a number of reactions to this, and have to say, Pudgey's optimism is what makes this so great. One of the best reactions on this. Keep it up guys.

I played the Rains of Castamere at my wedding 8 years ago. Tywin is the GOAT
Ahhh watching people react to the red wedding is a joy only someone who has already watched it can known. Suffer as I have suffered!
Robb was always set up for failure, his whole arch after taking the reigns was being a paragon of dashingness, honour and exceptionalism with endless wins in battle. The other shoe had to drop at some point.
Robb had been fighting a long time and he and his men couldn't resist a big banquet that Walder presented to them. Finally they could rest, drink, eat and have fun. Tywin could not believe his luck cause Robb had won at every fronts. He was like "this kid had everything and he decided to go to a wedding!". So then Tywin made the deal and it was over. And Robb when this happened and he died, he was almost relieved since he had been fighting non-stop. Almost like he embraced death. He was tired of fighting.
Still just as good watching you the 2nd time! How you both feeling? What an episode! Can't wait to see more ❤️❤️❤️

The red wedding somehow makes you both hate and love Tywin even more. You hate him because of how brutal he is, but love him because of how cunning and terrifying he is for arranging this.
Ain’t nothing cunning about this. It’s being a spineless coward who was afraid of a real war against the North. Slaughtered unarmed men and women.

This episode also shocked me & devastated me because I wanted so bad to see Rob get his revenge for Neds death & that was taken away from me. But there are so many other good characters to love & support as they continue on their journeys so be brave you two , I know it's an emotional roller coaster but it's also an exciting journey & there are some quality seasons coming up & you will continue to both love & hate the show but you will be extremely entertained , I guarantee it !

Ah the red wedding, a true testament to the GoT world, and it’s shocking value, no one is safe, not even the main characters! This show has given me more trust issues than anything, I still remember my reaction I think I ugly cried more than I have in my entire life. but y’all survived one of the most shocking moments in tv history! I had heard about the red wedding in passing multiple times before I watched the show, and I was actually still caught off guard with this scene.
For some reason, I had thought that the infamous wedding would take place during daytime and might’ve involved Joffrey, so I was still surprised by this episode, even though I knew some sort of tragedy was coming.
The red wedding pretty much leaves most people jaded and on gaurd l.
Years ago we al cried and our harts broke.Just like yours even in Europe. This show is the best ever even years later.I'm so glad we have house of the dragon now and John is coming back to us.
Thanks for your reactions. There were two real, historic events similar to this "red wedding" that George R. R. Martin used as inspiration for this. One is called the "Black Dinner." The other is called the "Glencoe Massacre." You can read a bit about them. I feel your pain...and angst. Yet, this is but one deeply hurtful part of the story of the Starks.
