How to modify the Mobile Workbench with Table Saw

  • This is the second article about the modifications and about changing the bench table saw on my Mobile Workbench. I swapped the Dewalt jobsite saw with a cast iron saw with an induction motor.
    The main reason I decided to do this change is to show you how easy it is to adapt this design so that you can install a different type of table saw without the need to modify the bench frames. You only need to modify the worktables.

    You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice czcams.com/users/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

    I love the design of this workbench/Tablesaw table. and the fact that you can modify easily for a different saw. My question is simple. I have an old belt driven craftsman saw, how can I adapt the outfeed table to fold over the rear mounted motor without having to put a big hole in middle?

    Man! I just love this bench. And now the modifications for the new saw. I've following along, of course, with this project and all others. I was reminded of the ingenious feature, how the drawer below supports the sliding table. So darn cool! I'd love to have the opportunity to work with this bench. All the features seem to operate perfectly, smoothly, and precisely!

    Could you use locating pins to locate the fence into the sliding table? Our professional panels saw only locates with two pins and two bolts. I've seen some without the pins. The countersunk bolt auto-aligns into machined holes.

    Looks great! Your workbenches (especially the modular ones) are what I would like to eventually model my new workbench off of. As far as squaring up the fence, how about embedding some magnets at the edge of the tabletop surface? You could quickly put on a straight piece of metal that sticks up past the surface of the tabletop and it would stick to the magnets. Then all you would need to do is put the fence flat up against the metal and tighten the fence down. After that you could remove the piece of metal so it's not in the way.

  • @tao6295
    @tao6295 Před 11 měsíci

    Regarding the squareness of the fence, what if you use one the square that has a lip on the beam (e.g. Kinex square with base)? You register the lip on the miter slot, and then butt up the fence against the blade of the square. I think a triangle with a lip could also do the same. For example, TSO has a triangle that allows a lip attached to one of its edges.

    When you say squaring up fence for sliding carriage, do you mean at the front edge or at any point on it ... if at front then just use the front edge (as you did in the video) as that's really quick, otherwise a a flat board which locates between the two mitre slots at a perfect right angle (say about 6" deep) and just slide the fence up against it (board can be stored in the gap underneath.
    Once again, fantastic workmanship and outstanding functionality 👍

    The table you made is simply perfect. However, I would like to say that you can make much cleaner cuts with a double blade saw. I think the double-bladed saws, which will make a fine scratch on the front and make smoother cuts, will suit this beautiful table. It will be very useful especially in coated chipboard cuttings.

    • @zkmlblc
      @zkmlblc Před rokem

      @@scott98390 You can see an example in the video below. There is a small saw in the front. this saw makes a fine cut in the chipboard, while the large saw on the back makes the final cut. Thus, a very comfortable clean cut is made. This combination works especially well on chipboard and mdflam. Not necessary for woodcuts. czcams.com/users/shortsRGze1OVyEbY?feature=share

    A few days ago I bought a set of plans for the work bench.
    The plans, information, skech up files and the whole presentation was excellent. Congratulations for a job well done.
    I have also bough the axminster saw. After studying your plans, I have been thinking on three modifications for which I would appreciate your recommendations:
    the first one, and since the axminster is 60mm taller than the DeWalt, would in be useful to lower the central support of the frame? it would be relatively easy to do for a new build, and would avoid issues with the cover and adjustements on the table tops.
    The second question, and since the saw weights 90kg, would it be useful to install some sliders on the shelf that support the saw, so it can be moved upfront for maintenance?
    and the third, would it make sense to create a support plate for a jig saw that could be interchangeable with the plate of the router, and combine with the jig saw plans that you also have on your site?
    thanks in advance and again, congrats for a job well done

    • @Paoson_Woodworking
      @Paoson_Woodworking  Před měsícem

      hi Francesc, I like the idea of making a interchangeable support plate for the jig saw. I don't know if the sliders on the shelf is a good idea, I think it's better to make the shelf fixed. I'm also not sure if it is better to lower the central support of the frame, I think it is better to use an iron L-profile as you can see in the video, and maintain the measurements of the plans
