On Stella di Napoli (Star of Naples), the American mezzo-soprano’s creamy tone and dramatic prowess breathe new life into little-known arias by Mercadante, Michele Carafa (a student of Cherubini and close friend of Rossini), Carlo Valentini and the prolific opera composer Giovanni Pacini, whose Stella di Napoli (1845) gives the album its title. Joyce worked closely with Italian conductor Riccardo Minasi (whose previous projects include Bellini’s Norma with Cecilia Bartoli) to bring three unjustly neglected arias to light in new editions and world premiere recordings. Alongside these little-known gems, Joyce presents a sumptuous Bel Canto banquet with music by the three greats - Bellini, Rossini and Donizetti - including the latter’s Maria Stuarda: a tour-de-force signature role for Joyce.

She sings just perfect. This is recording! No recital ! She can do with her hands all she will, no matter.
I agree...its not a recital but a recording and once its on tape its there theres no turning back so if her hands help why the hell not. I remember a concert by Kiri Te Kanawa many years ago and she hit ONE bum note in her last song. Why do I remember it.....because the paper critic made no mention of it. It was a live performance so it can happen. Just imagine fi Joyce hit a bum note in a recording......... oh the savaging these CZcams armchair critics would give her
Amazing. No , I just can't stop. Marvellous. Glorious. Devine. Oh I love it so much. In moments like this I realise how blessed I am to be able to listen to this wonderful music and voice and to be able to comprehend and enjoy it. Thank you God!
(17 November 1787 - 26 July 1872) was an Italian opera composer. He was born in Naples and studied in Paris with Luigi Cherubini. He was Professor of counterpoint at the Paris Conservatoire from 1840 to 1858. One of his notable pupils was Achille Peri.
BRAVA JOYCE! BRAVÍSSIMA! It's Wonderful! Gratitude!!!
My best regards and greetings to every artist involved in this magnificent jem. Sublime!
Che voce ……!...……Che talento………………!...………..da impazzire
I really like the clarinet player. I wish I knew more about him.
I love this, and it's quite new to me. Wonderful!
hell yeah. so far, she has been one of my two favorite opera singers.
Brividi......Splendida voce
She is an angel from heaven
Lieve hemel, wat een artieste !!! heerlijk, adembenemend.
this is so BEAUTIFUL!
Amazing!
A me sembra una bravissima cantante con una voce stupenda.
perfect
these people who knock Joyce on these blogs, do THEY have any talents ?
you mean mozart & fafner ? not at all
Бесподобно!!!
It's very nice!
Callas or Caballe, she ain't.
Neither of whom were Mezzos mate..
romanason We know that but certain repertoire is overlapping. Callas sang the Non Piu Mesta from Cenerentola and should be consulted first for how to do it. DiDonato is too gimmicky for me.
zamyrabyrd She does get a bit enthusiastic perhaps that's the American way, but you can't fault her voice and if you saw her performance in recent Maria Stuarda, her acting - which was excellent.
romanason Similarly Beverly Bubbly Sills used to rub me the wrong way.
ewwami Maybe better at self-promotion but not a better singer.
Once again the musical lyric opera fades.
I ask myself what motivates a potential star of Broadway to venture along paths that lead to disaster: another attempt to "save" the melodrama by himself?
Her career is anything BUT disaster
@@christopherlau6982 the correct word is : a nightmare.
A nightmare for anyone who has a clue about opera and singing
