I just tried this today and it is amazing! I soaked both towels in the hot water with the oxy and I also included a dishwasher soap tablet, my racks were really really bad hadn't cleaned them in 6 years so I thought a little extra punch couldn't hurt. I only let them soak for about a half hour while I washed a couple of windows. Then I pulled them out 1 at a time. I didn't even need to Scrub. The baked on grease and food just wiped off with my scrubby sponge.
Just remember to put your gloves on. Whatever is in either the oxy or the dishwasher soap won't come off my hands, but my rings have never been cleaner.
She says 2.5 hours but honestly even counting my half hour soaking time It didn't take me a full hour start to finish.
I have never been so happy to clean my oven racks!
    Thank you!!!!!

Easiest way that i found years ago. I place racks in a heavy duty garbage bag. Pour 1-2 cups ammonia in and close the bag tightly.I leave the bag outside overnight. The next day hose down the racks. Then I go over lightly with an sos pad. Hose off again and dry. They come out great and NO SCRUBBING!

@@janicegilbert4029 I live in an apartment as well, I do the same thing and simply place the bags in the tub overnight, just ask your family first to be sure everyone won’t need the tub until the next morning. Since the racks are in the bag and not touching the tub I find that more sanitary. Then I remove the racks, hold them up and rinse them with hot water from the shower (I use gloves so I can use the hottest water possible) hopefully this works for other families like mine who do not have a backyard☺️

After trying everything( oven cleaners- soaking-scrubbing - steel wool- ugh) nothing seemed to work- so I just quickly opened and closed my oven door when I had guests over- looked pretty bad :-( !! I decided to give this method a try. Well, the results were amazing! Yes, I used some old HOT TOWELS - I used a " steel scrubby" instead of SOS - and some elbow grease! I also added some TIDE to my HOT WATER! It only took my 1:15 minutes - start to finish!! THANK YOU!!
    My oven racks look fabulous!!!!

I wanted to do that. I can't though because I live in an apartment.😓 And I heard that even if the oven cleaner says you can use it on racks, that it can destroy them. Has anyone else heard this? Has anyone had any problems?
I will probably soak mine in a plastic bin. I will do it in the bath tub, less mess.

This makes it a lot easier and without the fiddly job of putting the racks in a garbage bag, there is no need to use litchen towels either..

I take the racks outside, lay them on the ground and spray thoroughly with oven spray cleaner. Then I put them in a large black garbage bag and spray them thoroughly again. Seal the bag and leave them over night. I've actually left them in for a week until I needed them. (Usually put the bag in the basement.) Remove from the bag, rinse and wipe with abrasive pads using gloves. Most comes right off. Rinse again, dry and back in the oven. Not perfect but nearly so. I mean, they are oven racks.
