  • Episode S2/03 of our 'Blood, Sweat & Deers' Podcast:
We sit down with Dr Al Gabriel, a man of many talents. A molecular biologist with a background in ecology and genetics, a BASC Council member (Northumberland), a keen Roe stalker and a freelance writer for shooting magazines, whilst also on a mission to promote diversity in shooting and public understanding of country sports.
We discuss a whole range of topics from:
    - Stalking Roe deer in Northumberland and it's challenges
    - How Al got into deer stalking
    - Deer Tick Awareness: The truths vs myths, how best to avoid Lyme's Disease, the secrets of tick deterrents
    - Ladies in deer stalking, a need for greater diversity and better education of deer management/fieldsports to the wider public
    - Where does the data of a population of 2M deer (approx.) in the UK come from and is it misinformation?
This was probably one of our most interesting conversations we’ve had in a long time. We hope you enjoy it!

The best podcast I’ve watched - I got bit ten days ago like you Owen under my watch strap and I’ve spoke to my GP about tick bites only yesterday 😂 I’ve learned so much after watching this I’ve passed it on to all my stalking mates 👍 thanks Al for the advice and information given cheers

See enough muntjac and you'll see plenty of ticks; groin most commonly but also armpits. Always underneath. One thing which is true is that tick burden is not uniform across animals from the same piece of land.

More stalking and stalkers traveling long distances and taking home a carcass and dumping the hides into the bin.
