Happy Friday! I know most of us here who play video games have a computer desk, or lack thereof? Don't worry, I'm here to help. A lot of you guys requested that I film myself building my own desk, and since I was in the process of doing it anyway, I figured why not share it with you all? I hope you guys enjoy the process and find inspiration in building your own desk as well :)
Remember to share your DIY with me by tweeting #CatabotDIY. Have fun and good luck :)

Kyle Williamson I do what I can :) thanks!
Cathy, I love all the songs you use for these kinds of videos! I remember hearing "Good Kinda Woman" by Summer Villains and I absolutely fell in love. Thank you for all you contribute to your fans! You are simply such a perfect person.
John Smith Thanks for watching my videos :) I truly appreciate it!
Keep up the good work Cathy! I really enjoy these type of videos. Maybe you can do more with woodworking - sanding, staining, varnishing, sealing, etc
You are pretty handy Cathy :D good work!
Thank you :)
I loved watching this, it looks so easy and organized to do. If I didn't have a desk, I'd probably do this. I just watched Gmod Coasters, might make one this week for my brother and I. Thanks Cathy!
Loved the vid, nice idea keep it up!
Awesome! extremely helpful for christmas! Thanks
Why am I so in love with this video!!!
Have to say thank you very much for doing this video, I hope to make my own worktop soon but more for working on my RC car, you'd be thinking, oh it's only an RC, don't need a big table for that. Then you see one, then you realise how heavy it is and realise that working on the floor with one is beyond aggravating. Only touch I'd add is being able to have some storage underneath.
clever :) i love watching a good DIY video every now and then
The music works really well in this video...nice job!
This is so creative and it turned out so well!
Gina M. Yay, I'm glad!
+Gina M. Where did you purchase the piping? Where locally did you get it?
+Cathy Diep (Catabot) where did you get the pipes tho??? and how much did it come out to in total??
It looks great, might try this since I'm desperately needing a computer desk and this seems to be a way more cheap/creative alternative than just buying one.
Tweet me if you do! #CatabotDIY :)
Amazing!!! Going to do this
Great job helping the community!
Love it!
It's nice to know that there are youtubers that really care and reply to there comments good job. :)

Wow! I'm amazed on how easy you made this look! I've been looking for a desk for my computer and seeing this makes me want to build one instead. Maybe make a unique graphic design on the top as well. Thanks catabot. 👌👍👏
itzDaFalken11 No problem.
Thanks Cathy! I've been meaning to get a desk and this is just perfect. I love it!
XxUrgentSeaxX No problem!
Cathy Diep Since the sizes of the steel pipe are custom to your height, what would you recommend for someone who is 5'11"?
I said this once and I'll say it again, Adam is one lucky dood.
Very creative, love these kinds of videos :D
Thanks! :)
i love this, so totally moving my legend of zelda (stole from your diy gmod coasters) coaster on the table when i get the components tomorrow :D
Although I won't be building a table anytime soon, this was pretty sick haha
Cathy your honestly so talented its ridiculous!
SirChris Thanks! :)
I love the use of depth of field in your still frames. It really makes this table pop. Good job.
Wow, Cathy is impressively handy with construction.
I really like this look.
cathy, you're like the pinterest of youtube and i'm like the pinterst fails-and-slap-something-together-and-try-to-cover-it-up-with-gallons-of-multi-coloured-paint guy

you're really talented, you make such cool stuff ^_^
Deborah Winter Thanks so much!
That's okay, can't wait to see what other things you'll be making Cathy Diep
Cathy makes it so easy. :))
I made these desks and they are so sturdy and I get so many compliments. This is not a cheap DIY, but definitely an easy one! Didn’t use plastic caps because my desks are all on carpet and I couldn’t find these anywhere in store, may order off amazon at a later date.
(1)IKEA Karlby countertop - $159
(2)1 1/4” galvanized structural steel floor flange HOME DEPOT - $16/2 pack
(6)LDR industries 1 1/4” galvanized iron tee HOME DEPOT - $9.91
(At least 2- more if you want a taller desk) Mueller global 1 1/4” galvanized steel pipe 10’ HOME DEPOT $36.97
Home Depot will cut your pipe for you to fit your height measurements.
Thank you Cathy :D. Now i can build a desk for my college dorm :D
bag445 have you finished college?
This is cool
Looks great *
You don't specifically need an Ikea counter top, it just saves you the trouble of sanding, staining, varnishing and sealing. Nice job on the legs, but you might want to drill and use bolts and nuts if you want it to be more stable.
kinda look like anna akana at some angles. I love the desk!
The neat thing is you can also add some extra pipes and wood for a shelf under the table if you like. Just a thought. Cool project.
For anyone looking for these pipes, the brand is SteelTek and they can be found at Lowe's.
Also, 74" is too long for the crossbar. That doesn't make sense, considering that the desk itself is 74" and it has to fit within flanges. I'd recommend 70" if you're trying to get a leg in every corner of the desk.
Thanks you for ur Video
Exactly what I looking for
Took me about 30 seconds to subscribe. Awesome.
Catabot the builder :)
Crazy simple!
Ad Ziq It really is!
Very cool! When I'm out of college I hope to do a lot of DIY projects like this :)
That. Picture. Is. Too CUTE!!
(Head explodes)
StoutBUUER Haha thank you! :)
FWIW the generic name for those fittings is "structural pipe fittings".
The Kee Klamp brand shown in this video is quite expensive, but those are made to handle serious weight. Structural pipe fittings from other manufacturers are a lot less expensive and more than adequate.
With the money saved you'll be able to do more Carabot projects 😁
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH
:-*>
This'll be REAL HELPFUL!!! Ya know... As soon as I get a bedroom that's larger than that desk itself.....
That is awesome looking table. I myself might change the pipes a little. Put the long cross support over the back legs so you have more leg room. Tho as it is it could be used as adjustable (human) leg support.
you are a genius!!!
laurel peterman your a genius :) can I get your number?
Where did you get the plastic plugs from?
Hi! Love the video. I'm thinking about doing a similar standing desk setup -- where did you get the measurements based on your height?
Nice video.
she's so cute!!!! i'm jealous of Adam :'(
Lazy nanners :) and good job
wow you are very good!!!
Hi Cathy! Love your work ;)
Quick question, how did you go about finding the right height for your desk for you?
I want to see a diy chair now. Lmao
Dang gurl you're preety handy m8 :p so jelly
thanks, ur video very help me
Nice desk! I've been looking to build a desk like this for some time now(actually two desks: one higher and one lower). I really like the wood top. Is it solid birch? How much for all of the parts and pieces?
nice video - where can i buy the steel pipes from ? does home depot have them ?
Love that bar across on the bottom for a foot rest
can you tell me where you bought your single socket tee. i m looking for them in 3/4 in size and cant find them in any store
I might get a custom desk made one day, I know a few good artists who can paint a decorative top too.
Wow Cathy you truly are a talented woman adams a lucky man to have you :)
Are you concerned about the top sagging at all? I just built a desk using 2 countertops(one for a monitor stand) and cabinets as legs, but im thinking i might need a center brace to prevent sagging, or maybe a wood block mounted on the wall that the center of the top rests on.
Dude your channel is adorable. Also anyone know how much that desk build cost supplies wise? I'd like to move out soon and that desk looks affordable.
Here in Cali have seen black pipe. And galvanized (silver). Have never seen steel fittings that lock with an Allen wrench nut? At least here in Cali. What is that pipe used for normally?
Why is the crossbar 74" long when the desk surface is only 73 1/4" wide? Am I missing something?
I believe it has to do with the flange
Cool video. All these measurements got me thinking. If you don't mind my asking, how tall are you, Cathy?
When you need a desk, who you 'gonna call? CALL CATHY :)
Great job Cathy! Love the DIY vids! I have to ask though, is this much cheaper than just buying a whole desk?
For this particular style and function, this is much much cheaper.
Cool!
Sachadrew Unless you don't have an ikea near you... They want $300 to ship the table top. haha
Wow ur really good
Cathy! On things like this can you give us a cost breakdown for the raw materials? That would be great to get an idea of what we will need to make something like this.
Thanks!
The IKEA countertop I bought was $99 (minus tax & delivery). The steel pipes and fittings should be around $150 - $250 for all of the parts. So overall, it should cost you between $250 on the low end to $400 on the high end, depending on how much your hardware store is charging you for each part. I hope this helps give you a frame of reference :)
Cathy Diep Thanks Cathy! That was perfect!
Cathy Diep Holy crap! Now I'm sad. T_T And I thought the IKEA top was the most expensive part. Righto. Back to cheap pre-made tables then... :(
Cathy Diep jeez... i could make something for a huge fraction of that on my own... cut a few pieces, glue them together, run them through the plainer and bam! got yourself a table top haha and pipe shouldn't cost that much.. even if it is steel..
333keb Did you mean to say "should" or "shouldn't" there about the steel pipe? (was actually thinking about how to make this cheaper as well...)
Total cost? i plan to make a 98" countertop desk (lilltrask) and use trestle legs from the linmon finnvarda and use the legs on the countertop, and the linmon desk as a raised shelf on one side, just trying to figure out what i want to use for the raised shelf, looking for ideas!
It's nice I like the birch but the steel pipes just make it look weird in my opinion. When you were mounting the legs to the top a good idea is to use 1/16 inch drill bit and drilled into the the wood so if there was a chance of the the wood splitting it would less likely to do so
Miss Cathy Diep ... what did you use your font at the first part ? my cousin really like your diy's especially your diy mockingjay cupcakes ..
Can you let me know where you got most of the hardware? Lowes, HD etc? I am having a hard time finding the ones specifically shown. most of the ones I see are the threaded type.
Thanks
Also how well does the top seem to hold up over time? I have two glass Ikea Galant desks and I am afraid they are going to shatter on my one day...
