Here is the new 2021 info from me. I have had AN1x for a couple of years. I had these synths: Dave Smith OB-6, Waldorf Kyra, Blofeld, Korg N5EX, Trinity, R3, KingKorg, Prophecy, M3, Kronos 2015, Roland JP8080, Yamaha FS1R, Yamaha Motif XF, EX5R, W7 Version 2, Montage, Access Virus TI1&2, Novation Supernova 2, Novation Peak, Clavia Nord Lead 3, Behringer MonoPoly, K-2, Cat, ASM Hydrasynth and other.
It’s impossible to keep everything. Now I only have 6 hardware synthesizers: Yamaha An1x, Yamaha Montage, Novation Supernova 2 Pro X Rack with new DAC (see my Video with Supernova2 repair info) with better Sound, Virus TI1 Desktop, Clavia Nord Lead 3 & Nord Drum 3p. I like the sound of AN1X endlessly. Its control, despite the small screen, is thought out to the smallest detail for me and leaves no questions to the manufacturers. The sound of the synthesizer in places makes me not sleep at night, but play music using it. I do not find anything annoying in the sound of AN1x, if I am faced with the question "what to use in the track AN1X or the Virus TI?", Then I choose AN1x, since its sound is more unified and universal.
In my AN1X, I changed all the regulators, 3 OpAmp chips after the 18-bit DAC converter to improve some aspects of the sound, but this is my personal quirk. I'm not going to sell it, that's why I got carried away with some kind of modernization of what I saw fit. In general, there are no transformers inside the AN1X housing that lead to heating of the air inside the housing. Due to the complete absence of heating elements, even after 30 ... 40 years, its capacitors do not dry out (I'm talking about electrolytic ones). Therefore, if you want to buy AN1x, the only thing that may not be in the best condition is the case, labels, ribbon controller, knobs, modulation controller. All this can be bought today and replaced damaged components without any problems.
Unfortunately, these days it is more difficult to find synthesizers that suit their sound and capabilities fully. Therefore, looking at the old AТ1X think about the fact that this is a very good candidate instead of the modern regiment of new synthesizers with worthless sound or flaws.

I've always wanted this synthesizer. I got one a few weeks ago very cheaply and in very good condition. I'll never give it back! Best VA Synth ever!!!

I've owned an An1x for about 20 years though I haven't used it much since the rise of high quality vst's. I should really use it more again as it's got so much more potential than it gives away from just looking at it.Inside is probably the most criminally underrated trance lead and pad beast out there.
I absolutely agree with you. Its sound is unique. For a long time I used high-quality VST Synthesizers. With the help of them I created many own music tracks. Now I'm busy rewriting all my tracks using HQ Hardware Synthesizer of the 90s years. And I no longer want to return to the VST. The difference in sound between the VST and Hardware Synthesizer of the 90s years is gogantic, that all VST Synthesizer are blow away before our eyes. )) In the Mix i need many Effects for VST such as Limiter, Compressor, EQ and other. AN1X
@@js-sound I can’t imagine something like Zebra or Diva sounding worse than hardware VAs... I have a Waldorf Q that I like a lot but even then.
My dream would be to own an An1x...
The sounds are hug and not old fashioned for the creation of electro music.

The AN1x is pretty easy to obtain! You have some great synths already too! But the AN1x is a great synth, so I would say go for it!

I looked on the internet a while ago and the An1x is starting to get scarce...
this is thanks to my video :-) Before that, no one needed them. Prices went up after some cover videos and demos. Many of my acquaintances (whom I did not know before) in Russia also wanted to get AN1x after watching many of my videos. I have already sent 4 pieces to Russia from Europe. It's the same as if a bunch of people watch videos of provocateurs such as Doctor Mix and if he says "run and buy" everything like crazy without thinking "do I really need this synthesizer?" buy synthesizers that are advertised by a certain Doctor Mix and the like. Depending on the number of demos and materials on CZcams, the demand from potential consumers for this product may vary. But do not despair, at one time they were sold enough, you will be able to find a good option for yourself. And in no case listen to those who tell you that 2x PLG150an is better than 1 keyboard АN1X. In AN1X, the effects are also at a high level, and it is in this harmony with the effects (which are not in the PLG150AN cards) that it is full-fledged. You can download examples here! What I like about this synthesizer is its sound... and not because videos have been made about it.
I also saw MIDERA videos on the An1x and the same love at first sight operated for this synthesizer : always the same observation, its sound !!! :)

And when a lot of videos appear on CZcams, new ones and people often look for videos, they find old videos and think "this synthesizer is probably out of fashion after all", it's another matter the new videos of our days, they prove the opposite to people, they say, pay attention to this synthesizer, it is still in demand today.

THE best VA still in my opinion. Had mine for 15+ yrs (?), never selling it. Better than any other HW or VSTi virtual analogue simulation out there - love it still, even if it looks cr@p really!! 😂🤙🎹🎶🍻

AN1X sounds great, there's no dude. But if we talk about real analog sound emulation, IMO, Alesis Ion/Micron is the king.
@@KurtFuller I have Both an Ion and an An1x, they are top sounding V.A both of them, the Ion sound more like an Oberheim, the An1x sound more like a classic CS synth. The Ion wins for hands on controls, modulation matrix and filter section, the An1x takes it for internal effects and FM.

I'm really impressed with your converter. My An1x don't sound clear and juicy as yours even some of my patches are extensivelly edited. My interface is a Zoom Uac2, and i need to run synths through external Di's and preamps to get the right sound. Love it man.
Unfortunately a lot depends on the converter. RME has Babyface Pro, there are the same converters. But there are, of course, even better ones, though for a completely different price.I needed a good audio interface with equally good converters on all audio channels.
@@js-sound Yes you're right. I tell you. I had a Antelope Zen Studio. Very large, clean, 3d sound. But ... totally sterile, no vibe. Stacked tracks sounded so stattic. I sold it. You RME seemed to be in the same league, but more musical. Maybe better dynamic range? i dont know..
@@sensi4360 I had EMU 1616M, after it I bought RME Fireface UFXII and I like it. This interface has clear sound and dynamic range is also large.But I think the interface is sometimes secondary important. You must be able to mix music correctly. Alas for me, this also does not always work out as it should. :-) It has a uniquely large dynamic range, super converters in this class of interfaces, is convenient in operation, and I have never seen such a routing as in RME. You can connect any channel to any other, that is, any input with any output, and so on.

If you have a jp8080, nova and nord leads with full hands on controls, would this one become frustrating to use or even no so needed perhaps? Snd maybe another synth would be better?
I had a lot of synthesizers. I also had a JP8080 and I don’t like its sound at all. I had a Supernova 2 Pro X too, I sold it 1 year ago with a good DA converter. Now there is also a Virus TI1 desktop, and a Nord Lead 3 desktop and a Eurorack Modular one, which I soldered myself. About 80 synthesizers, including analogs, have passed through my hands. I modified the AN1X like my entire music setup. I'm a fan of the High End sound. Some people may not like AN1X, I like it absolutely everything, a good keyboard, I really like the control of AN1X, its sound is brilliant in that it does not irritate me even if the presets are, let's say, not very good, it just lies in its sound character. It looks simple, but in fact it sounds no worse than any analogue, can do unique things, has a lot of modulations, a very thoughtful interface and unlike many even modern synthesizers, it is independent and does not need any external editor for full control.
I even like its ribbon controller and 8 knobs. I can connect 3 pedals to it, with its knobs I can even control VST or other synthesizers, for example the same Nord Lead 3 or Virus, all controllers are freely assignable. 2 scenes are 2 different presets, that is, it is multitimbral. But with the help of certain buttons and functions, it can go beyond its basic functions. For example, it has partial vector synthesis, and many do not even know about it. Its resonance with disabled oscillators can sound like an additional oscillator with full keytracking. In short, the AN1X is an old smart and very good synthesizer from the late 90s. All modern ones either do not sound good to me, or I do not like the sound, or they lack what is present in the AN1X. I do not choose a synthesizer by its packaging or case. ASM Hydrasynt looks beautiful, all glows, but the sound in it is complete crap. 95% of its sound is purely a set of timbres, which I can’t used with any music. While from the same AN1X I can take 95% and widely apply it in any direction for all styles.
Somehow this is how I formed my opinion about AN1X and other synthesizers. I have a modular only because I am an electronics engineer, I had a lot of free time at work and I decided to solder my modular myself using the best components. Yes, it sounds powerful, yes, it is interesting in some ways, but the small AN1X, although not as quickly, can still replace even a modular. And a modular is purely for fun, but is of little use for any significant music. The times of Jean Michel Jarre and Klaus Schulze have passed. Their music remains eternal, and to do the same thing, one modular or a couple of analogs will not be enough, and the character of the sound will still be different. And the AN1X is suitable for both Schulze and Jarre style, as well as for trance and for film music and other styles. AN1X is a multi-talent and what Yamaha did in Montage M is a fake and has nothing in common with the real AN1X. I hope I have answered your question completely.

I can’t say for sure. I bought AN1x with patches.Maybe among these examples there were some from JayB. But I’m not sure and I won’t say it. But among my personal patches, 128 pieces that I made for AN1x can say 100% that there are only mine and no others. For AN1X there are thousands of presets on the network created by different people. For today I made just only 1 set with my own presets. I have no right to dispose of someone else's property. I can only offer my personal presets.

There are 15,000 presets for AN1x. When I was making this video, I selected some presets from different sets of sounds. Now, unfortunately, I do not know which presets I took from the sets of sounds.
@@js-sound You are just making excuses for not sharing them. Patches are small, not huge files. So zip them all up and share them.
@@mrkirk4944 just look on the internet. There are groups for an1x on facebook with a complete filesection with most patches, yahoogroups had a files section, I think the mailinglist and the filesection have been conserved for future netizens. Just google, and ye shall find. No need to demand in such a bad tone for someone to zip some patches which are available on the internet already.
