    Most likely there is no water barrier under the concrete floor and Red Guard could also be used there prior to flooring to keep moisture from the ground out.

    Finally someone made a video about it, did the same in a property but I use a Henry waterproofer over the paper and even sometimes where paper is missing, great tip

    Thanks for the tips ! Did your garage have a floor that was sloped ? Have you put sleepers over a floor to raise/level it? Thanks.

    I posted on your TikTok.
    The presence of a stud does not make the paper between the stud and the siding magically waterproof. However if you also red guard the stud, and sister that stud, the dwelling should be safe.
    The reason you need to red guard the floor for your interior walls is that there is probably not sufficient waterproofing under the slab and at the sides. Often a thin foam layer is added below the sill plate to keep water from leaching into the wood.
    You will probably also need to provide an underlayment for your flooring that allows for a damp concrete slab.

      Design plans 3k. Some charge as much as 9k. Permits probably 1k but you also have electric panel permit (500). There are a few more small charges

    good tip .. only question how do you apply redguard between the stud and old paper... it's not reachable or you need to remove stucco and this is the most affected area usually..

    • @HektorCastillo
      @HektorCastillo  Před 2 lety +2

      If you need to apply Redgard to the back of the stud most likely the paper is not is the condition to be salvaged. The best thing to do will be to install a new layer of paper. Ask the city inspector how to proceed. I would not have applied Redgard if my inspector did not approve it beforehand.

    actually, not true. you can use it to waterproof tour tile shower below the tile instead of some overpriced schluter system. was used in a new tiled walk-in shower in an adu.

    Q: if the current walls of the garage don’t have any paper- just the exposed wood in my garage, do I need to add the paper? Or simply add red guard directly to the wood?

    If Natalie designs the ADU, then who do you use as a licensed architect to get the stamp for the building department?

    • @HektorCastillo
      @HektorCastillo  Před 2 lety +1

      You don't need one. A stamp is not required for a garage conversion.

    • @marisayoung796
      @marisayoung796 Před 2 lety

      @@HektorCastillo You do need a stamp - even for a garage conversion - if you create any new openings in the existing walls. In which case, you'll need to get a structural engineer's stamp. I suspect you didn't need a stamped set in this case because you're the owner-builder on the project, used WFPP, and your door and window openings used existing headers(?).

    • @Wilheminia
      @Wilheminia Před 2 lety +1

      @@marisayoung796 Section 5537 of the Business and Professions Code does not require a licensed architect to stamp plans for a single-family dwelling of wood-frame construction not more than two stories and basement in height, but the Building and Safety Division of County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works may request the preparation of plans, drawings, specifications, or calculations by, or under the responsible control, of a licensed architect or registered engineer if the structure deviates from conventional light-frame construction. The plan checker assigned to review your project will have the authority to determine the requirements for final approval.
