Fast tempo can be exciting and a lot of guitarists play REALLY fast these days but for me I would like to hear what I would play in my head as much as possible not just let the fingers do the work. I just can not think that fast and most of them really can't. Here I play Autumn Leaves pretty fast with one of the practice backing tracks that I made with real players Gene Jackson (dr) and Mark Tourian (bass) ) Though it is good for practice, I personally think the tempo is too fast for the song's real feeling and I do not play the song this fast live. アップテンポの演奏はエキサイティングでもあり、特に最近は超絶テクニックのジャズ・ギタリストがたくさんいます。でも僕自身は単に指の動きに頼るのではなく、できる限り自分の頭の中で聴こえた音を弾きたいと思っています。僕はそこまで速く考えることができません。実際大半の奏者がそうですが。このテンポは練習には良いけれど、枯葉の曲想には合ってはいないと思います。なので僕はライブでこの速さでやることはありません。いつもウェスのメッッセージを自分に言い聞かせています。『速く弾けることは良いことだけど、いつも速く弾く必要はない』

コメントありがとうございます。同じ曲を45年間とかやっていても可能性は無限です。僕はクラシックもよく聴いていて人間業とは思えないものの多くありますが、ジャズは曲を自由に『料理』できて、その度に違う可能性を追求できるところが魅力です。一生かかっても『知り尽くす』までは行きませんが。
Another good quote (I don't remember who from) is that "playing fast is just playing slow, but fast"
Basically, if what you are playing when you play fast wouldn't sound good if it was slow then it isn't a good line, you need to be able to play slow before trying to play fast.
Absolutely agreed. I love playing ballads and working on ballads over the years made me play faster tunes better. I suffered an injury almost 2 yrs ago and I could not play for 6 months , it took me several months to gain the strength of the fingers back again. Meanwhile I practiced SUPER slow and noticed my touch was better later.
@@akiology I love playing ballads, the amount of focus and concentration you can give to each line given the time you have on each chord really helps to speed up how fast you can think on chord changes.
It's great to see you playing as well as ever after an injury too
