Sam is the first Slabber that is well articulated and has knowledge about Civics and Politics , that Man is the exception not the rule of Slab City , i wish him well , my first born son was an occasional slabber ..he passed away last month , he was 53 years old and had a drug habit , sadly many Slab City residents have drug dependency , Sam is not one of them is very clear to see . my respect for the Gentleman

In the 90's slab city was a trading mecca. 1000's of people who made a living selling things at flea markets would come in and they would trade with each other. Then the government came in and made people sign up and charge them fees. So everyone left. I would say you could encourage them back but it's not going to happen. The slabs has changed so much why would they come here when they can go to Quartzsite? It absolutely decimated what economy the slabs had.
