    Corey D,
    I got the same rifle last week,took it to the range this weekend and was printing from 3/4 to 1/2 inch groups at 50 yds. I torqued the action screws to 25 inch/lbs.used CCI standard, Norma USA tac 22, and FGM all 40 gr. CCI did the best, I was so impressed I ordered an MPA chassis for it, hope you figure it out bud.

    Yep! Without a doubt don’t worry about group size ‘TIL you’ve shot a brick through it and as already been said STOP cleaning it! You will be surprised at the difference that will make. About the only time I barrel clean my Lithgow is when I put it away for a few months, when I bring it out to play again it gets a good 50+ warming up before I do anything else, I would say good luck but being late to the party I expect you have already got it sorted or I hope so😉👍 kind regards from across the pond.

    I guess its a function of the ammo. For example, on my 457 Varmint Eley Club [orange box] and SK Match get tighter groups than sub MOA [at 50] when compared to Standard CCI and Federal.

    Good video. Was wondering about the cool down of barrel between tests? Tested 19 different types of ammunition in my 457, landed on CCi copper hollow point copper coated. After break in on bench rest shoots sub 1 min after break in of barrel. The chronograph really tells the story of different ammunition. Used a scale from my archery gear to weigh each round in the box. The best quality for the best price ended up being the Norma. The cci leaves less to clean in the barrel after 400 rounds a day for the last couple days. Thanks for the video Corey.

    I have an RPR 22 and had nothing but issues with it for about 600 rounds. Tried about 20 different ammo lines and never got it under 1" at 50 even with action torque testing. Installed a GMR 16" barrel and everything was suddenly fixed. Its shooting ~.68" at 50 using SK pistol match, action screws at 30. MV using Magneto Speed is 1075-1080, sorry don't remember the true sd/es. I was looking at the CZ 475 Varmint for a second rifle system because people have been saying good things about out of box accuracy. I wouldn't mind having a second RPR so i dont have to share rifles with my wife, but i don't feel like paying for another GMR barrel to fix issues i know i will have, when i can hopefully get what i'm looking for right out of the box. It is a very nice rifle and nice after Mkt. Bolt CZ’s have beautiful stocks. Amazing you have a match barrel and usually a tighter chamber so CCI STD. probably not the right size for your rifle for 1/2” groups. I would consider putting at least a 25 power scope on this rifle and lower the scope rings ie(1/8” above barrel),get a quality 20MOA rail (DIP RAILS online are excellent), and use a quality bench rest or bag and adjust the trigger to around 1 lb. or less for bench. You have to try more quality ammo I have at least 16 kinds of .22 ammo and my CZ455 likes Eley Match, SK LONG RANGE probably the best but I shoot 100yd. & 200yds with CZ’s & Anschutz MPR 64with Weaver T-34 scope. Good vid man. Try some other ammo's. I had my 457 Varmint out yesterday and was shooting sub MOA at 100 yds.(no wind). Lapua Center X was the best, then Eley Tenex and Eley Match. It doesn't like any of the CCI choices including Green Tag. Some of the SK works well too. I even tried the SK Long Range and it shot no better on steel at 200yds than the others so don't waste your $$ there. I also have a Tikka T1X I've shot side by side with the CZ switching out the scope and it likes completely different ammo. The gun likes what the gun likes. Buy 10-15 different ones and spend a day at the range and have fun. Btw... the Eley Force is designed for semi auto's so don't expect great things out of a bolt gun.

    You might try a pressure pad under the barrel near the receiver, but you would need to experiment with that a little. Also some people put a shim behind the recoil lug ( they are a little loose ) to be sure it holds the barrel from moving back. I have the same rifle and it does shoot much better than this. It took several hundred rounds through it before it settled down. Good luck with it.

      Corey D Also, as some have mentioned, check the torque on the barrel grub screws as well as the action screws. Try shooting off a proper rest . My Varmint just doesn’t do as well from a bipod as it does from a rest with a good rear bag. Mine shoots just ok with CCI SV but , of course, does much better with Sk or Lapua ammo. Seriously, try the pressure pad experiment. I use bicycle inner tube. I found a 2 inch piece about an inch from the receiver did help accuracy, but the size and location of the pad differs rifle to rifle. Glass bedding is always helpful.

    If I understand MOA correctly, none of the groups are close. MOA for 50 yards would roughly .50 or 1/2 inch. 1 inch groups would be MOA at 100 yards. That being said, there is a lot of variables to consider before you right this off as defective. Try more ammo. Eliminate as much shooter error as possible. May even look at increasing the trigger weight as you may be jerking the trigger. Just my opinion.

    This is an older video so unsure of the status of your rifle. If you still have it, I will offer some thoughts to improve accuracy. These things worked for me. First know that some rifles need some tinkering to get optimum accuracy. BTW I own the same model and I consistently get sub MOA from plinking ammo. First thing I did was to scrub the barrel. It was filthy. I use JB Bore Paste on all my new rifles because it acts like a lapping compound. The CZ barrels are generally in good shape since they are hammer forged and don't need to be lapped but the paste helps. Anyway I kept up with Wipe Out and Accelerator, and Rimfire Blend and brushing (nylon) and patches until it was clean. This took a long while. Next I put a 12oz trigger spring in it and adjusted down to less than one pound. The trigger weight greatly affects accuracy. Next I adjusted the action screws to 20 in lbs. using my torque screwdriver. I shot 100 rounds of Federal Range Pack (NOT value pack) because it does not have any lube on it, just a lead round nose ammo. Then cleaned the bore, then another 100 rounds, then cleaned, then another 100 rounds. Lastly I got a pack of shims from Trigger Shims and put a 0.003" bolt shim in. SAAMI headspace is 0.043" and the 457's all seem to measure out to be about 0/046". Use a bench rest without the bipod, and start at 25 yards. CCI ammo is known to have a thicker rim than other brands. The rim thickness can affect accuracy. The Diamondback is a good scope but gives parallax down to 25 yards only. No offense but I would adjust how you got that mounted. Good luck and I hope this helps.

I have asked them for the chamber dimensions of the 457 but it seems to be a closely guarded secret - I suppose for competitive reasons. Looking at the CIP diagram suggests that the chamber is more like the American Bentz chamber - not as tight as Match but better than Sporting. The headspace is still listed at 0.0429" however. And BTW, I purchased a CZ-USA 455 Varmint fluted barrel and my CZ 457 American really improved from a 3/4" shooter at 50 yards to a 1/2" at 50 yards. I have two CZ 457 American one to hunt and one for benchrest shooting. The hunting one is about a 5/8" @ 50 yards and the other one is a 1/2" shooter. I would take the area 419 base off and use dovetail rings because once I did that on my rifle it shot better. There’s something about being as close to the action without placing foreign parts that makes for better accuracy. The reason I am suggesting this is because I tried this myself on my rifle and it shot better. Try it you have nothing to loose. The rifle may very well be a shooter and the scope bases may be the culprit why is not shooting close to 1/2" @ 50 yards.

    Nice attempt. If you are looking for accuracy, shoot good ammunition. Personally, I’ll use CCI SV to get on paper then switch to Lapua Center X. Ammo consistently is the only way to test your rifle. Experiments with two unknown are a waste of time and money.

    Hey Cory, I just ran into this video while looking around for CZ 457 videos. Just got a 457 American in .22 mag and wanted to compare notes. After watching this video I went and watched all your other newer ones. The groups you shot with the Tikka and the Bergara told me the story. I know you already sold the CZ and you wont want to hear this but your groups were not the CZ rifle's fault. I can see that from the groups you shot with your other newer rifles.
    I'm 65 years old and have been shooting since I was 8. One thing that most people don't understand is that most all of the rifles made today are a lot better than the shooters. And so is most of the ammo. Yes some ammo will shoot better in some rifles. That's only because of harmonics. Ammo manufacturing is so good these days that the only variable is velocity from one shot to another and it's not much (but it makes a difference. You're not alone. I see this all over CZcams. Mostly horrible groups.
    At 65 I'm a lot worse than when I was younger, mostly my eyes and concentration. I can concentrate and repeat it just right about 65-75% percent of the time now, that's it. But, early on I learned a lot from the best of the best benchrest shooters and I'll repeat, lack of consistency of the human being on the rifle is the source of most all fliers, vertical strings, open groups, etc. I have not seen any rifles in years and years now that shoot worse than 1.5 MOA. They don't exist anymore. Manufacturing is that good! That said, these days with me being a 65-75% shooter, I can see that, @ 100 yards, 1.2-1.5 MOA is the BEST I will get with my CZ457 .22 mag on a consistent basis out of 5 shot groups. But I know it's me, not the rifle. When I do my part I can get .8 MOA. LOL! When I was young I could get .8 MOA with iron sights @ 100 yards - not anymore!
    Shooting 5 shot group after 5 shot group is REALLY hard to do well. Every single shot made has to be made exactly the same way as the last. Rifle fit to the individual is critical as well. If it doesn't fit you right you will shoot worse than with one that does. That doesn't mean that you will shoot really well with one that fits either. Yes, if the rifle does not fit you right you will shoot worse. But then again, with that fully adjustable stock on the Bergara that notion is out the window.
    You seem to shoot a lot. Get to know people at your range that can shoot really well. Have them shoot your rifles. Ask for help. I always did and it paid off in spades.
    All the best..

    There are a hundred modern 22's out there that will consistently shoot better than these targets. It can't be this is the limit of the CZ457. I'm a Savage shooter, and all three of my Mark IIs will shoot .5 inch or better, often much better, at 50 yards with CCI std vel just about every time. I watched your Tikka video and you got similar results. It's not the rifle; you should evaluate your entire setup including how you interface with it. Are you using a rear bag? How's your follow through? I'm guessing but the groups look a little like you're giving up on the shot at trigger time, not following through. If the platform were steady, CZs should do .5" at 50 yards with standard velocity ammo. It would be helpful if you showed yourself shooting a few shots from this rifle. There must be something wrong sir, I've never seen a cz .22 shoot that bad. I think your stock screws are either too tight or too loose. Try different torque settings while you are at the field.

    • @coreyd1474
      @coreyd1474  Před 4 lety

      yea i'll give that a shot. torque settings on stock screws is a rabbit hole i really don't want to go down. from what i've seen it doesn't really make a difference in group size just moves the POA up/down

    • @lastlogona6235
      @lastlogona6235 Před 4 lety

      @@coreyd1474 You are both right and wrong, normally, the tighter the screws are the higher POA and vice versa. Lots of stocks are very hold sensitive, how hard or loose your grip is makes a difference. But if the stock screws are too tight the barrel might not free float. If the screws are too loose you might get unpredictable barrel vibrations causing an uneven spread. Sorry for my English 😂 but stock screws and a free floating barrel makes a lot of difference. Given that the ammo you are using is a kind that your barrel likes. Nevertheless a bedded stock will always improve accuracy.

      @@lastlogona6235 yea i'm just going to have to mess around with it. i know they're not tight enough to make it not free float i ran a dollar bill down the barrel just to verify. i THINK they're set around 30 ft/lbs but i'll have to double check and give it another shot.
