YES!! Thank you with the pronunciation of foyer. I say it correctly in my head when people mispronounce it.

You all pronounce it incorrectly, as I said in my comment, because you only worry about pronouncing the last syllable, so the word ends up half english and half French, which in my book is even more ridiculous. Just don't worry about stuff like that, pronounce it however you want and don't police people

My foyer has wall-to-wall off-white wool carpeting that continues down a right turn hall to bedrooms and a left turn hall to the living room. Does the infinity carpeting rule out a nice tile entry choice?
Same question applies to my infinity ceiling and potential dramatic entry ceiling..will it chop up the space too badly?

Great talk, DD, even if you can’t pronounce simultaneous. My favorite thing you said is making a statement with the flooring. Not many designers think to mention that, but it really is the most bang for your buck. I am so grateful for the designer who did the reno on the home I bought. Before, the entrance was not even a foyer. She took out the coat closet to create one. She punched up into the attic one foot for a rectangular tray ceiling. She put in a pendant light fixture, and changed out the front doors to ones with horizontal strips of glass. All this gave it a brighter, roomier, stylish entrance. Most flippers would not have gone to the trouble.

i hate mirrors, but the foyer in our next house isn't big enough for anything else, so i'll have to suck it up and just do it. And i know that faux plants and flowers aren't quite the same as the real thing, but for they're great for those of us with allergies (and we don't have to worry about our pets getting into them.) Btw, what's that sound i hear in the background? Oh dear, it's your poor plant that just found out it's getting fired. Poor little plant dude 😭😭😇

Great video DD, my dream home would have a proper foyer, isolated from the rest of the house so I wouldn't have to let people all the way into my home unless I wanted to, in Summer that's what the veranda is for but winter . . . well I'm not that tough . . . AND YES! on a mirror, I have a mirror on the wall on the doorknob side of the door and I've gotten so many comments on how nice it is. Plus yes I do look in it when leaving the house after coming in from the shop so I don't look like I'm in blackface before going uptown . . .

Perfect foyer for me is very close to square room. Left wall has minimum 2meters long soft top bench where you can drop your bag, jacket, sit and remove your shoes and opposite to it wall is wall to wall closet with seamless floor to ceiling mirrored doors. So you can perfectly see yourself while getting ready to live and while arrived and have plenty storage to pack shoes and jackets away immediately together with bags, hats, sunglasses, umbrellas whatever...

@@rockshot100 In my experience, yes, we would pronounce it the French way in the US, but I can’t speak for everywhere because regional dialects vary. That said, in this region, we would more likely call it an entry or entryway unless it’s a grand entryway with high ceilings- in which case, obviously only the French word would do.

Meant to say that eucalyptus is a GREAT foliage thing to have in your house. I've had the same branches for 2-3 years, but it gets dusty and looses its scents after a while. I have been either rinsing it off or use that shark steam thing outside to get the dust off. Thanks for reminding me. Also, lots of pussy willow buds (not the flowers) are not that hard to keep dust free for a few months and you can get like 3' branches. (to create a wonderful vertical "moment".)

I have a minute foyer that melds immediately with the open concept living room. So my storage is a bit distributed - i have put up wall hanging storage for coats and a tiny bench for shoe storage and for sitting, but its just a bit further away. Sigh. And with the funny angled ceiling merging into the rest, wallpaper isnt an option. Hm.
