I've been a mechanic since the 1960's and I can save you plenty of money. Just add a quart of ATF to your oil and run it for a while, maybe 100 miles and it will clean all your lifters and the entire inside of your engine. Then change your oil with the proper weight oil naw a new filter. ATF is the BESt cleaner for this money can buy. Mechanics have known this for decades. The man who shared it will be used to work on model T's and Model A's. You can also add some to your fuel tank and it will clean your injectors to perform like new. Old truckers knew this and did it in their diesel engines when they got sluggish.

yes, that's true, but the only solution i've seen for stuck lifters with the dod issue is to swap out the lifters and disable dod. dumbest thing gm ever did to save for fuel.

But you can disconnect the brake booster sensor this will fool the AFM. Run it through warm up and cool down and it will release the lifter. This worked on my 2007 Silverado. You can reconnect the sensor after the lifter is free. I have over 230k on mine still running strong

    WARNING ⚠️
If you own this engine GENERAL MOTORS IS BEING SUED THROUGH A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT
case 1:19-cv-02858 szep v General Motors.
What you describe is exactly what they’re being sued for.
What I would suggest is to start making noise. This lawsuit was filed last year. I bought the GMC version of this motor less than a month ago and and hearing the same clicking sound, (having the same symptoms the class action describes).
General Motors has not issued a recall, so what will you do when your 7,000 dollar engine fails prematurely? I don’t have that kind of money and likely neither do you. The only way to fix the problem seems to be to speed up the judicial process.

My 5.3 did the exact same thing. Rocker was tight, but would not move on engine rotations. The lifter locks had failed, not collapsed. Basically the cassette was moving independently of the outer shell of lifter. Have to replace lifters.

I had the same problem with my 2011 escalade 6.2. It’s a common failure with the lifter. It’s most common on the passenger side, I think cyl #4 and #6 the most common ones. There are a lot of tricks on how to get the lifter unstuck, but they’re all very time consuming without any high rate % success. I’m just ended up taking the passenger side engine apart and replaced all the lifters at once.

As soon as you hear this issue, fix it and don't continue to run it. There's a 'fix' to tap a collapsed lifter with a rod-like tool to unstick a lifter. Also try and change your oil more often than reccomended intervals. Otherwise, it's a major headache to replace lifters and possible cam damage.
