Ahhhhh yes, another BA-LEEVER! :) Thanks man, clean install! QUALITY NOT QUANTITY! 😎
Great vid, Justin. I was going to get the 240 for my 7.3, but I think I should go ahead and get that 320. 😁
Do it!
Did you end up installing it ?
Great install !
Good Video , I was all in till I saw you Dremel cut off that bracket, For future installs modified the Mechman housing and retain the Ford Stock Look.
Hey,Justin gd vid!!,a great idea wld b 2 purchase some of that protective housing that's around the hot wire hooking both batteries together over your radiator!,(i forgot wht it's called, and cover all wires with it!!, Protect them from harsh environment;heat, air, etc(blue$wht wires from alt)don't worry about pretty ness, protections always first!!,c ya matt
They have protective plastic housing over the wires from battery to battery from the factory … but I may add some covering to the 0 gauge alternator wiring I added someday.
Awesome video but where does your 250 fuse hot wire connect to off the battery?
Justin ordered a Mechman Alt. For my 6.0 Have an important question though if u cld reach out that be great concerning the wires and battery cables TIA justin
Hey Justin, my tuck suddenly wouldnt start but cranked fine. Noticed my factory power cable that goes to the alternator grounded to my alternator. Cleaned it up and reconnected but cable was still burnt. Truck still won't start. Do you think I just need to replace the burnt cable because its not getting the amps it need to trip the relay or whatever for it to start? Everything else is good as far as sensors and ficm.
I see u done the big 3! 🫡💪🏼💯 We do this ALL the time even on stock ALT! Big 3 MAKES such a huge difference ALONE! So much more efficient
Mechman recomend a 400 amp fuse between battery and alternator, I’m waiting for the delivery of one
🙌🙌🙌
I’m about to install a JS alt HO prob 300a alt to help my system electrical, considering I’m running 6000w now! 😬🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤣
When you first start the 6.0 it takes up to 2 minutes before the alternator kicks on fully.
Good to know !
Yes, it runs off the batteries for a few minutes at startup. Then it will go back to 14v
Toomanytoys has a really good video on the 6.0 powerstroke alternator woes. Basically the OEM 110a unit is barely adequate. It’s horrible at idle. The alternator is always on but the glow plugs over power it and they are active for the first 2 minutes. I went to a Bosch 140A and a over drive pulley. Never an issue in my excursion after that. The SCT reports OBD2 voltage which is proven to be .2-.4 V lower than what you read at the battery. Your more than likely 14.6-14.9V
@@Bacongrease00 this comment is EXACTLY correct. At least these kids learned something hopefully.
Best comment of the whole section.
Yeah that's the glow plugs pulling the voltage down until the cylinders get warm enough to combust optimal without.
That wire I believe that wasn't connected was actually the power wire for the glow plugs and why it wouldn't start from the cranking he did.
I bet if you measure voltage directly at the alternator it would actually be 14.7-14.8 volts.
I would say you’re right! I ran out of time filming I wanted to do that I’ll Definitely post some results in the community page on CZcams here & on Instagram with a direct measurement !
You should probably be running a in line fuse between the power wire on the alternator and the battery very clean install I just installed my 320 amp alternator on my 06 6.0 also
"but there isn't one from the factory" 🤦
(BTW, if the quotations didn't make it clear, people are clueless what a fusable link is)
@@commonsenseisdeadin2024please educate me I’m interested. I’m installing a 275 LN soon and I grabbed the same exact wiring he got mainly cause it looks nice for same price as LN website while they only give you the positive. I don’t wanna cut any corners what are you referring to where do I get it and where do I hook it up to
@@wmcourte5161 a fusable link is a group of smaller gauge wire that if too high of current is induced the smaller wires will burn up. They are sheathed in a flame retardant jacket so it poses no threat of fire.
All vehicles since at least the 90s have either a fusable link in between the alternator and battery or they have a fuse (be it ANL, mini ANL, Maxi or a proprietary design).
That being said, you should put a fuse inline of the wire from battery to alternator, closer to the battery as you want it closer to the source of constant power (alternator produces none while not running obviously).
The reason I said the above in quotes is because people argue that many times the factory didn't install a fuse so why should they when doing the big 3 when saying that you should. The problem is that they are 99% of the time wrong!
You fuse for the wire not for the load.
I have 2 positive runs of 2/0 from a front cap bank back to the rear battery banks that's fused on both ends and 2 runs from the Alt to Cap Bank that's also fused (4 spot fuse holder on top of cap bank) I say this because often times people will only put a fuse on the wire of the under hood battery to rear battery at the front but not one at the back too. Essentially there's no point in even running a fuse at all then. Fuses are to save your vehicle from burning down! It's an automatic battery disconnect
@@wmcourte5161 BTW what is LN?
Assuming Leece Neville but I never seen a direct buy website and they are nothing like Mechman or Brand X (or the like)
Then again I should probably re watch the video this comment is on 😂
@@commonsenseisdeadin2024 what do you mean they’re nothing like mechman? You’re saying mechman is far superior ? They get sold through nations website.
I know this thread is old. Did you have to use a shorter belt?
No same belt
Did this ever short your alternator, running the extra ground to the battery? Or is it still running strong?
Works perfectly , installed via directions from mechman themselves.
@@JUSTINHAWKSMITH just wondering cause I’m ordering this alternator or something similar.
Just curious why did you route the negative from the alternator instead of going from the battery to the frame/engine block?
instructions from Mechman, power and ground directly from battery to alternator
How many watts RMS are you running to need a high output alternator?
Around 4k watts rms , along with a air compressor for train horns , 30+ rock lights , light bar, bed lights , few other added accessories.
Where did you get those terminal extenders?
Link in description !
Dont use Mechman way over priced i switched over to Tucson alternator they are a fraction of the price and better quality. If you were to research just the cost of the components in there alts youll find there just rapping people. Tucson even makes up to a 400 amp for the 6.0 mechman only makes a 370amp thats $200 more than there 400amp lolllz. They can also make a higher output alt upon request … But i do agree every 6.0 should have 320 amp alt my voltage was hardly 13v before with the at from tucson i was at 14.8 the thing ran so much better after
How’s the alternator holding up? Would you recommend it ?
Mileage is 666
I heard a lot of crap about mechman anyone else ?
Never heard anything negative out them
Did yours come ready to bolt on I read a few people had to twist it 180 it was on backwards
@@JUSTINHAWKSMITHdid you put a fuseable link or no?
@@JUSTINHAWKSMITHand brother you said you were gonna run a ground from battery to the frame… never saw that part
My husband need this answer also
