- I said Cybernator in the video, but the right reference was Metal Warriors. Whoops.
New SNES-related video every Tuesday, and something else (Genesis, Game Boy, whatever) on Thursdays

Another case of publishers thinking American gamers here won't like the anime/manga style box art if they only knew what was coming by the mid '90s.
Will say i think there was a certain distaste for "cutesy" things back then. which is why alot of american box art tried to be more "realistic" and "badass". Cutesy back then equaled baby stuff in alot of peoples eyes especially older gamers in their mid to late teens.
even the first waves of anime to hit america were mostly sci fi and action anime, stuff like Akira, Bubblegum Crisis, Demon City, Golgo 13, etc.
but I know what you mean, by the late 90s stuff and ideals where changing for kids back then like me, who were exposed to things like tenchi muyo, hamtaro, pokemon, digimon, etc etc. although I still remember a GamePro ad article talking about a site dedicated to people who hated pokemon and pikachu and would host videos of pikachu plushes getting annihilated lol
Also I think the western box art was changed to put it more in line with the movie it was based off of.
@@Synathidy I agree. The source material must be preserved.
I definitely remember seeing that covert art a lot.
Stop lying 🤣
Same here. It screams “focus group.”
Yeah. Me too. In magazines and my local Blockbusters
This isn't the most memorable game ever made, but I had fun playing it, and that's all that matters. I really like the mechanic of the kids sometimes jumping off their dinosaur, and yes, the developers should have used this more often. Also, the plot (more like an "excuse plot") is crazy as hell. So, a decent game that has some charm
I'll never be as rad as the kid on the cover
He looks like he might get beaten up by the kids from the cover of Rival Turf though, so maybe it's a good thing.
@@marlondaniels7912 well dude, those guys on the cover of Rival Turf don't fuck around
Sounds like an indie song
Really like how you cycled back to your older video, keeps a certain continuity. Quality show as always, hope your days are good as well.
I was one of the kids that rented this game :)
I liked it back in the day, haven't played in a while so I might do that.
Thanks for the review.
One of my friends growing up had this, so this brings back memories! I actually really enjoyed going to his house and playing it.
SNESDrunk! Been watching a lot of your content lately and have been enjoying it a lot. I'd love to see a Master System focused video if you have it in you. Keep up the good work!
Not many people seem to know that this game is related to an obsecure film called Adventures in Dinosaur City. Which is why it's called Dino City.
That movie was soooooo bad, I felt like I was the only one who knew about it
Used to watch that or the original tmnt movie almost every day after school.
But to be super HONEST me and my little sister and my best friend that lived next door used to LOVE this movie because of how weird it was, it was soooooo good but bad in a good way
@@CaptAwesumNo1Zone I might give it a watch on my next day off to see if I still enjoy it or not.
@@linkmaster6486 lol have a drink or two or three and you will lol its corny 80's/90's wholesomeness and it is what it is. You can't fake that bad of acting lol
I rented DinoCity, I never made it past level like 3 or 4, the one with the giant wheel, but it was, a thing.
I guess I was fooled by the cover art, cause it was the 90's, that style was kind of cool back then
Can't get off the first level, mate
Blast from the obscure past, this one. That cover art took me right back to the rustic netflix/gamefly satellite locations that we called "video stores." And you could not have been more spot on. I could find EVO: Search for Eden checked out before this non-entity was shown any interest. Hell, this video was in fact my first exposure to the actual gameplay. Thank you for your diligently deep dives into such a copious catalog of forgotten frivolities.
Gaaamefly blast from.the past. Forgot all about that one
Vaguely remember seeing this game at video rental stores... thanks SNES Drunk for the review! I’m interested in playing it.
*I* rented this as a kid!
Though, when I did, I was like 5 years old and never knew you could get off of the dinosaur. I'd get stuck a lot because of this.
Eventually, after a few days of renting, I accidentally figured it out, and a whole new world was opened to me. The game has its flaws, but boy is it nostalgic for me.
So true about the renting, it was ALWAYS available for rent haha.
Still the best reviews out there. Short, funny and all the necessary informations. Thanks for your work! :)
Hey, Jim
really wished he'd branch out to ps1, dreamcast and n64
@@Splozy true, that would be amazing. to be honest, there can't be that many snes titles left, so let's just wait it out. ;)
Love your reviews and love seeing you get to some of the weirder and more obscure titles on the snes
the only reason i knew this game existed was because of these old Nintendo Power issues I had. Because of that I have nostalgia for all these rando games that I've never played.
I can't put into words how much I love how visibly excited he is at the discovery of fonts.
The coverart, geez....
The 90's was a magical time
A game i want in the box
@MultiTarded 90's art and animation is arguably a lot different from the what you'd see in the 80's. Not really a carry over per say.
Radical
Jazz jackrabbit ftw
Woah! This is the first hand I ever saw running on a SNES in the shop where me and my brothers were still trading games in cassette!
I remember it looked amazing. Never knew what it was until now. Thanks SNES Drunk!
Game not hand...
Irem is a topic of interest lately. Thanks for the videos man. Keep it up
I hope you too have a great rest of your day!
I consider myself very well-versed in older games and hadn’t heard of this at all. Thanks!
3:13 totally looks like Super Mario World. You already are riding a dinosaur as a human, come on. 😂
Do some of the Genesis Nickelodeon games... Ren and Stimpy, Ahh! Real Monsters...etc. They have a soft spot in my heart.
Fellow friends, let's get SNESdrunk to 100k shall we?
Nice review as always,
I absolutely love this kind of art style. By the time developers understood the SNES and Genesis, they really started to pump out all these games with this fantastic kinda art style, and nothing takes me back to the 90s as much as games like this, even though this particular one I've never played, it still just has the same look of so many games I rented back in the day. I've never seen a modern retro style indie game have this kinda art style, even the ones that are meant to be aping a SNES game's look and feel. Even like there's a new Toejam and Earl game being made, and it looks nothing like the 90s games.
Lookin back I played weird games as a kid. This and Harleys humongous adventure were a few faves.
There really are a lot of obscure-but-decent-enough SNES games.
Will you explore the PS1 library? Even more obscure-but-good games :)
Puuuuuhhhh-iss drunk! :)
Vib Ribbon!!
Peeeeeeee S'Drunk! Dude! Such a dream!
@@livvy94 Vib Ribbon blew my mind as a kid. I'd never played a game anything like it before. I saw this tiny review for it in a magazine and it seemed so bizzare and basically infinitely replayable since every music cd you put in it creates unique levels. I played all sorts of music with it. It was so insanely difficult though. I don't think I ever completed one of the music CD generated levels. It just got too complicated. But the idea was great. Now I'm thinking is it possible to emulate and then use mp3s to generate levels? I'm gonna try it on my tablet, see if you can load songs from the SD card
Piss drunk lol
I remember playing and finishing the Super Famicom version of this game on an emulator back in 2005, also, the select button is used to select the character on the main menu in this game.
Man I am so happy you reviewed this game. I can't tell you how many times I've pasted by this game at Blockbuster only to not get it.
Thanks dude. Great video.
Watching this in the morning so the great rest of my day lasts for a while. Thanks as always ✌️
Thank you man! Nice work
Ah god.... nostalgia mind blown. I rented this game several times as a kid. I recognized the graphics as soon as I saw it, but couldn't recall any of the gameplay.
I actually really like the visual design in this game. Very colorful, quirky and quite pretty to look at.
I didn't play this game, but I like how you are nice to the games that have flaws, other channels just insult them, when you try to find the redeeming points.
I absolutely love this channel
IREM? This game was in one of those multi-game cartridges made in Paraguay here in Brazil in the 90's. Which made so I played It a lot back then but never knew the cover. And my limited mind at the time could only think It was made by Data East. We always ended up comparing It to Congo's Caper.
I hope you have a great rest of YOUR day.
SNESDRUNK your opinion and videos are awesome.
Nice background graphics on this one!
I always watch this guy, because he always wishes me a great rest of my day
Great video SNES drunk. Can you do more Sega drunk videos?
I have seen this game pretty often at swaps and the like and passed it over because of how many caveman/dinosaur games I own. Maybe I'll pick this one up!
I loved to play this game as a kid. I really liked the music too
Awesome 👍 page 👌
I like this game a lot, as you mentioned this was the only game left to rent, I warmed up to it, lots of fun.
I remember seeing the box art to this game all the time when I was a kid during the 90's, but this is literally the first time I've ever seen gameplay! Still, it's nice to hear that someone else remembers this game and the act of totally skipping it while going to your local Blockbuster. "Oh, they still got a few copies of DinoCity...guess I'll check out Earthbound again."
I'm sure I've played this game somewhere. The gameplay looks so familiar!
I own the SFC copy of this, bought it without even knowing what it was ages ago just because the box-art was so cool. One of the top examples of SFC boxart often looking better (imo)
It’s funny that you mention it was always for rent. The box art always make me overlook it. It looks like “We’re Back! A Dinosaur Story” levels of bad but even I’ve rented that game a time or two. I never would have heard of this game again if not for you and that’s part of what gives this channel its worth.
Wow complete opposite situation in my area, no rental stores carried this game, but I actually owned it in my original SNES collection before the "sell for new console purge" of 98. I actually loved this game, and the movie that it was based on.
Iconic cover art that I vividly remember, but I don't think I ever seen gameplay for this, so my 10 year old self thanks you.
That looked surprisingly good?!
I could tune in just to see what the new intro is going to be lol
Indeed that cover art was everywhere, and the game was always available at the video store, but I never rented it ... I mean, I rented Captain Novolin, Chester's Quest, all of the fishing and golf games, but this? never. Things would have been different with the Super Famicom cover, though ...
I remember seeing that totally radical cover art down my local viddy store, don't think I ever rented it though.
That box art looks like every cover of ever '90s children's book.
You're the only person in my life to acknowledge Prehysteria. Anyone questioning this man's 90s cred needs to get a clue
0:35 Remember the Megaman 2 cover-art? They drew him with a pistol in his... hand. No arm-cannon, but pistol.
I love your videos @snes Drunk thank you
My God I owned this game. It's been so long and I forgot the title, I thought I just hallucinated this. That Stage 1 theme is still stuck in my skull
Good game, I finished it several times when i was a kid. I had a japanese version on my european snes.
Your videos are more
Addictive than M&Ms
If I'm not mistaken the mathematic formula for Dinocity is d = Δj/Δc, where the (Δj) displacement of a Japanese tie in to a made for tv dinosaur film, over a (Δc) change in cover art into something not reflective of the actual product for an American market. It's all very scientific you see.
Dude! I was obsessed with this movie when I was in elementary school. The animatronic, dudes in suits doing martial arts phase was strong around the time of the live action Ninja Turtle movies. Cover art seems to match the vibe of the movie which does NOT match the vibe of the game. The art style and pixel animation seems good. Too bad it's not better balanced. Sweet review. Thanks for the nostalgia trip 👍
That box art is all I need to see to say Yes way I will play.
Oh! Almost forgot. I'm currently playing Tiny Barbarian on the Switch. Loads of fun. I'm not sure if you've established Switch Drunk yet, but I'd be interested in hearing what you think about that game.
In Brazil it was the same with this game. Something about it made it untouchable at the rental store
Still own this game. Good music and enjoyable.
thats cool box art
One of my faves
Great movie, I highly recommend if you can get you claws on a copy
I liked this game I remember playing Congo's Capers, Joe and Mac and this game
Doesnt look to bad :) Never heard of this game, gonna give it a go!!
I'm pretty sure I rented this once or twice back in the day. I have no special memories of it though, and it doesn't look like it does anything to stand out from the enormous amount of other 2D platformers on the SNES. However, it was released before most of those other games existed, so I imagine that it might have actually sold okay during it's first year or so on the market. After that, it was probably completely forgotten about. That's too bad, because it looks like a good game for it's time that has held up pretty well for the most part.
The cover of this game reminds me of my Chinese Water Dragon and I chilling playing video games... lol
It's a really cool looking game, the sort of thing I'd have loved back then but never had it unfortunately
Best intro yet.
I've never heard it pronounced Dinocity before. Just that alone made me more interested than if it's Dino City. That alone. This is also the first time I've ever seen gameplay, even though the box cover and cart label have popped up in my sight a good many times in the last 25 years.
the title & American cover art made me hope it would be like SimCity, but w/ dinosaurs. that would've been cool
Honestly. This looks pretty solid, yeah. I’d play it. Rocky Rodent I remember renting a lot as a kid. No idea why I liked it so much.
R.I.P. old JonTron. This was one of his best reviews.
I still have this game, not easy to beat as they are now.
Good enough. Brilliant!
I always wondered what was with the diagonal brush stroke-like effect in many of this game's backgrounds.
Loved it
I like the shirt merch but when you getting coffee cups?
great rest of your day.
balance is restore
Best intro yet??
I owned this game at one time. I loved it. It was challenging at the time but imo it was good
I rented it once. I remember thinking the whole "dismount" mechanic was kinda neat.
I remember watching this movie and actually enjoying it alot as a kid. Curious how it would hold up today. Haha. This game was pretty decent.
Well now I'm going to have to look into Prehysteria. Damn you.
It's OK for a kids movie. Watched it a few times back in the day.
I owned this one and played it a lot as a kid.
Yoshi as your permanent rider.
You should check out CrossCode on Steam - sort feels like SD3 - have a feeling you would enjoy this game.
Got this game for Christmas in the early 90s. I was super disappointed at first because it wasnt one of the games I wanted, but it ended up being a pretty fun game.
