I had the great honor to meet Eusebio in Newark NJ in 2006.
In a personal chat he admited that if Pele and Garrincha were not playing while recently injured the game would've been most likely a Brazilian win. "We played against a crippled Brazilian team", he added.
I have much respect for Eusebio not only as a player but as an honorable man.
He was the first modern European footballer and he could play in any era even the moneyball era.
We (England) won the World Cup in 1966 but Eusebio was the player of the tournament by far and scared us silly in the semi-final. RIP.

I love the wikipedia article that describes Eusebio's shot as ferocious. A word with so many subtle meanings and a great deal of the raw quality of his shooting and his hunger for scoring. Not only hard, not just sharp, not even wicked or clever. Ferocity that combines it all is the best to describe.
One of my earliest footballing heroes. Thanks for the memories, Eusebio. Your legend lives on.

BTW Portugal was not the team that had to travel, it was England and they used some Hooligan shenanigans to force Portugal to travel and that is one of the main reasons why England won. Portugal had to travel by train all night when they were not supposed to travel.
