OK, so the 'Tractiva' project was ambitious and, as I've come to realise, silly. Lots of chat, not a lot of movement on it as once again, I don't really have the time.
So, I've decided to end the project and break the car up for parts. But, what will I do with the parts, you ask?

Mr. Kitch on a roll with the good decisions at the moment. This one actually kills two birds with one stone; gives us Activa content and gets rid of the knackered crashed car.

I was so sad to see the Tractiva go, but then it all became better. And early in production is always nice; I have a Xantia from june 1993, so early Xantia production overall. Also no airconditioning. Very happy there still be a Xantia on your channel!
I liked the Tractiva because it was a silly idea😁 good call though, looking forward to seeing more of the new Activa👍
It all makes perfect sense. Just start working on the SM, that's the one we all want to see. How chuffing cool will it be to say "I drive an SM"?
Yup, as a huge Activa enthusiast I completely agree. We're still getting Activa content this way - possibly even more
Quite a few people have done track day Activas, and getting good times.
R-tyres and estate/break brakes in the back does wonders.
But it probably isn't an easy drive at first.
And oy! I were raving about Citroëns when i was 14-15. But i guess i'm not normal XD

Richard, you've done the right thing by getting another Activa in better shape and using the Tractiva as a spares car.
I absolutely ADORE the red Activa. The interior is so lovely, I love that pattern on the upholstery. Honestly if it was LHD, you would probably have to hide it from me hah :P
Jokes aside, a sort of mid-cycle X1 Xantia is a car I'm interested in owning at some point in the future. I do also have a problem with piling up cars though (I'm sure you can relate). Namely I need to sort out a 1969 280 SE, a 2003 Jag XJ Vanden Plas (the only automatic in the fleet), a...well...some year Reanult 10 Major, the beloved "company car" (a 2007 318d), and of course the BX 16 TRS, lovingly named "Citrus" (which you may or may not remember me yapping about in these comment sections before). Oh yeah, and I'm looking at getting a 2003 Accord to replace the aforementioned 318d (not in the sense that I will sell the 318d, all cars I buy have a sort of curse of binding and have to stay with me forever, I just lend them out to friends/family so they get driven). Anyway, now that I've suitably bored anyone reading to death, I will wish you the best of luck with getting the red Activa back into shape. It's definitely a car I'm excited to see more of on the channel (even more so than the Tractiva). Cheers!

Am I sorry to Tractiva not happen? Yeah, a bit. But there's only so much money and so many hours in the day. Very happy to see an Activa get some love though, and hopefully get used as a regular daily. I guess being a turbo, it can be quite easily... shall we say... "enhanced". Wishing I had the space, money and skill to take on the V6.

Don’t blame you at all Mr K. The SM is going to take a lot of time, effort and resources and is your long time desire. Something has to give somewhere. Great videos as always 😊

The ds died long before you tried to save it. This is a perfect car and shows older cars can be used as daily drivers
I was hovering on the 'like' button when you mentioned DannyDC2 - I check in with him every so often, but was glued years ago when he had the Volvo estate and was practicing left foot braking on the road :D However.... when the new Activa rolled in my goodness I hit that like button quicker than I would have hit Eva Green's a-
I think this is a much better choice for all the reasons you mentioned. Let's see this new one get made into your daily driver. Wax the snot out of the underside so it doesn't get rusty and you will be ahead of this one. You have an SM to deal with.

Had a K reg 1.8 lx in white from new. Was by far the best looking car of it’s time but that keypad anti-theft was pants as it wore out at about 80,000 and used to struggle to unlock it. Ended up re-setting the code to 0000 as none of the other buttons I had re-coded it to would register my finger pressing properly! That and the ecu which would suddenly die whilst driving, then start up again. Most scary when halfway along Rotherhithe tunnel in rush hour!
I've always always wanted a Xantia, right from the word go. Beautiful things, particularly the estate. However, work at the time got into bed with a local VW dealership and we ended up getting new Passats every 6 months as demonstrators. I've not driven anything else since, apart from hire vehicles. Lookiing forward to new not-tractiva content!
My mum had a Xantia as early as this. N538 BEM was its reg, i think, but i was only 7 at the time, although it was a basic 1.9 SD. No AC, wind down windows. It was a step up from the Astras they used to hand out. Those seats look a lot more comfortable than the standard ones though. I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes.

I think you made a good choice, a good Activa with a back up as a spare car is the only (so much stress otherwise) to go.
I have just acquired ANOTHER one which I am get back up and running after it not having moved for 17 Years !..........."Professor" Jim and I got it running well and to rise the other day, it took 4ltrs of LHM !, 3ltrs of engine oil and 6 ltrs of coolant !....but it runs well, fans come on and it lifted. It needs a few return line leaks fixed, a stuck front height corrector sorted and the front calipers replaced (I am fitting a V6 caliper set from my stock shelf)
You owe it to Clement and the Tractiva to make the track car a Saxo. Don't get me wrong I'd still watch and be interested in BMW half series shenanigans anyway. Good luck with it and the early red activa -it looks superb! The chevrons are in the middle, where god intended 😊

Wahey! The Activa will rise from any Traktiva ashes eventually. Hope youl be doing a blow by blow account of its struggle back to fitness cos it looks MUCH better than mine which is still sitting on its aris after nearly 8 years now with a couple of bust pipes. Looking forward to 'seeing' all the jobs needed as my diy skills are non existent unless prompted by a pro (nudge nudge) who knows what theyre doing. I also do have a v6 but that was just never go8ng to happen. Oh, and mines in dante red sitting wedged against a wall with doors seized. Gonna be an interesting year. Thanks again. Love it, always wanted an Activa, I had the VSX in the 90’s which had the 1.9 16 valve engine, same as the 405 Mi16 fantastic car.
2.0 16v in the Xantia (same as ph2 version of the Mi16). Rare car now, probably rarer than an Activa!
@@UPnDOWN No wonder it went well, super comfortable and then you pressed the suspension button by the handbrake for cornering fun.
Mine had cream leather with matching carpets, nightmare to keep clean, car was dark blue.
Had to sell as a garage did an mot on it and let the wheels dangle, after that the suspension would go haywire and no one locally knew how to fix it 😬
That's weird, you can let the wheels dangle on them with no ill effects. Sounds like they might have damaged something.

Damn I wish I had a spares car. I have a 98 Series 2 Activa. Have you ever seen another Activa with leather seats? Mine has them as an optional extra from the dealer (unless I'm mistaken and they were munted after it was left to sit). You can definately get the struts refurbished as mine were done by a previous owner. I'll have to check my documents for the proof and the company that completed the work. I daily mine and it's excellent, terrible on fuel, but excellent. One thing to check between the two cars is driveshafts, the Activa has driveshafts specific to it that are of a thin solid steel type, whereas most other Xantias use thicker tubular driveshafts, it took me an age to find the correct ones. It's great to see another one getting the love it deserves, nobody seems to have any idea what it is whenever I bring mine to shows so it's nice to see someone else that is passionate about these cars. Bit of a rambly comment lol, love the content.
I do think the Xantia is a very pretty car ❤

I'm glad you're keeping the amazing Activa seats. I also prefer velour. And cloth seats in general. I hate leather. It can feel hard and slippery and if you make a simple body movement like lean over to open a glovebox, it sounds like you've let out a loud squeaky fart. Leather is also too cold in Winter and too hot and sticky in the Summer. Cloth seats have character as they can be quite colourful and have some cool patterns, which is what leather never is, or will be.
The leather ones are Activa seats too (same shape, bolsters etc) but I just prefer velour these days.

Anyone else might have been accused of overthinking it but not you, there's nothing there that isn't needed to come to what many of us call a Plan. Strange as it might seem, I agree the black headlining looks right for that.
I must admit, the tractiva was my least favourite of your projects, so I for one won't be missing it. It's good to see you freeing up time and resources for the others. Any more for the cull? 🤔
I think the Activa just makes more sense as a car you can use to its strengths. The red one will feature more in time as a road car vlog, kinda like the C6.
Vecki is likely on the chopping block, as I don't need a van anymore and it needs tonnes of work.
Plan is:
1. Hilda on the road (in progress)
2. My other BX 16V out of hibernation and on the road (likely won't feature on YT)
3. Activa fettled alongside BX above
4. TVR on road (in progress, though slow!)
5. SM!!
@@UPnDOWN Yep liking that plan, apart from the Vecki bit. But let's face it, she needs a lot of hard core fettling too and I guess that's another thing you don't really need to get bogged down with. 👍
If Vecki is weather proof (or easily made so), they could be useful to store larger spares in ... unless you have a magically extending mezzanine for storage!

I always thought that in their time, the Xantia was the most attractive saloon car on the market. "Spearing the bonnet" takes me back to Mk. IV Zodiacs.
I'm soooo glad you got another one, I was grinning from ear to ear when the red one appeared. Please enjoy the hell out of it and keep us updated. It'll surely be worth it. I've literally never seen one, even for sale.

Good call on the Tractiva/Activa project. I'm not sure, but on-screen I quite like the look of the white. Although I'd want white wheels to match.
So which issue are you going to tackle first? It'd be good to have a 10 minute "plan of attack" whiteboard session (next to the car of course).
It'll be reversed into the unit and I'll take the top mounts out I expect. It'll be immobilised for a while so can't go somewhere in the way.

Although the idea of a Track Activa is something i've had silly dreams about, and would be perfectly strange yet possible, I do understand the reasoning behind changing ideas. I'm glad to have found another Citroen/Peugeot enthusiast out among the stars. I have a 1997 605 2.0 Turbo (needs good bit of work) which I reckon is the same motor as in that Activa. Much love from Finland, PS, if anyone knows how to bypass/remove/reset the 4digit code thing in Peugeots of that time, id love to know since the project has sat long enough for me to have forgotten the code, and instead i remember the code to an earlier Peugeot i had (1996 106 GTi).

You should meet Christoph Ankerstein from northern Germany. He already did create a track car out of a standard Xantia.
The blue one? Yes, that's more like the way to go if you choose to do a Xantia track car. Start with a basic one.
That seems like a really sensible decision. Other sorts of decisions are only acceptable if they produce lots of content, and the Trac(k)tiva didn't really do that. But I seem to remember something about there being an SM??? I'd like to see work on that being done.
So would I! I can't risk starting something I can't finish, though. I need to be able to fully dedicate my (unrushed) time to it.

Suggest the C1 racing series like Bad Obsession Motorsport did.. looks great and cheap
Not powerful enough for a basic track car (though great for a one-make series)
Sad to see the tractiva go, but at the same time this was way more of a project than it needed to be.
A quick dirty bmw mini track car build sounds good, cheep car, cheep mods, cheep fun.
Obvs not scrimping in safety though for obvious reasons.
With a power goal of around 130hp you could possibly get a 1.6 diesel and map it, then at least its still got some Citroen/PSA dna

A lady along the road had a pair of xantias, one afte the other but both the same colour, fairly sure they where diesel, although as a 6 year old i just thought the rear arch tuck was amazing and how it rose up when started.

I think a diesel is a no-go for a track car, it's got to have petrol responsiveness IMO.
I don't think non-Activas were available in Dante red, but there was a similar red available at the time (more similar to Peugeot's Diablo red) which plenty of Xantias were in. I had a Xsara that colour, too.
I do have a merch idea but the merch store has slowed right down in terms of sales now, so I'm not going to put tonnes of effort in.
Sometimes you have that, you start a project and halfway through you discover that you made the wrong choice.
I am now curious what the new racing car project will be.

I think the Aygo/C1/107 is a good racing series to build for like the BadObsession car. Cheap and seemed really fun. MAybe not a cool car though.
They have a cool race series, but ultimately not quite quick enough. Want 120-140bhp, something like that.

Did they not rip the hydro out of the rally cars? I feel like a saw a documentary about the citroen rally team once where they did that. It might also have been a xsara which doesnt have hydro?
Not the 4TC, no. They did take it out of the SuperTurismo BX, though.
Xsaras don't have hydro, they're conventional (306 underpinnings)
Daft question - is there no way that this one could ever be returned to the road, or is it just too badly damaged? Totally understand (and indeed agree) with your logic here by the way, so not criticising your decision - I am just being curious really.
It could be, yes, but it's just not worth it. The money it'd cost to do it, you could easily buy another one.
Probably a wise choice, will the red V6 Xantia you have be going as well once you've stripped it for parts? Also I imagine the fuel economy will be better than the C6, as well as the tax. The tax on my daily is going up from £395 to £415 a year, almost like they're trying to push us out of our cars.
Part of me really wants to have the V6 on the road, as I've never driven one properly. But I doubt I'll have time, so likely either just sell off to someone who wants one, or strip it down and keep the parts by to do a potential Activa V6 in the future.

Sensible decision. You have (had) too many projects. Focus your resources on the ones that will be most rewarding for you.
The Tractiva would have been rewarding, but I have too many big jobs and not enough working cars, so I think it makes sense, especially given my kids weren't too fussed by a Xantia! They just want to go round tracks with a roll gauge!
There was a 205gti near me that had a xantia turbo engine in it, maybe put that engine in a 205 or ZX or Xsara

Agreed. I've done two as well and I've ripped the dash out of five Xantias from '93-'97. It's not too bad. Could be done within a day if you're really going for it, though I wouldn't say you'll make it that quickly the first time

Look for a smart forfour brabus 1.5 can pick them up cheap, and fun, fast and reliable, bits from a mitsubishi colt will fit it to
